Stalin was every bit as brutal as Hitler was. In the mid 30s he completely purged his military of all senior leadership. Killing everyone from generals down to lieutenant. When the nazis invaded there were very few experienced commanders left.

In 1941 the t-34 didn’t face Tigers or Panthers. It faced Panzer 1s, 2s,3s and 4s with the most deadly the Panzer 3 with a 50 mm gun and without slopped armour was no match for a t-34.

    • @philswift791
      @philswift791 3 місяці тому

@CliffE-th8vs Not according to the Russian field study conducted by.
Central Scientific Research Institute No.48 (ЦНИИ 48),
Out of the full sample of 178 tanks, we subtract out 24 tanks disabled purely through mechanical failure - this leaves 154 tanks that had some sort of armor penetration damage, with a total number of projectile impacts at 534, subdivided as:
      · 432 (81%) projectile impacts (penetrations & bounces) on the hulls
      · 102 (19%) projectile impacts on the turrets
The 534 projectile impacts are further subdivided into:
      · 289 (54%) impacts that did not result in internal damage to the tank and crew
      · 245 (46%) impacts that resulted in internal damage.
There's a chart that shows 54.3% of the hits were from 50mm. 23.7% of those rounds penetrated the tank. Even 1.2 % of 20mm penetrated the armor.
So no you are repeating a myth.

I find it hard to feel good about anything the Soviets did in WW II because they were not only one of the original invaders, what they did after the war resulted with them killing at least as many innocents in Eastern Europe over the next 50 years while inflicting untold misery on millions of their "citizens" (citizens = occupied countries).

All true but Hitler turning on Russia, leading to Russia joining the Allies made it much easier to win the war than if the Germans & Russians had remained a joint force. Also, the German invasion of Russia gave Britain some breathing space, with their focus not being on us for a while, & needing troops from the Eastern Front, Germany pulled men from other areas.

The fact that this guy in a whimpy little T-34 could do all that destruction in the time he did and under circumstances that might have sent anyone else retreating says a lot. This really isnt about the tank, it's about the man. He was basically a leader of a group of men armed with .22s taking down entire battalions of men with body armor and AKs. It's not the weapons, it's the tactics.

Your video's title seems to sound "misleading" and somewhat of "nationalistic" in my ears. You have many fans in Germany and all over Europe I guess. There is no need for "click bating revanchism" of this kind, almost eight decades after WW II, as I guess, as none of our generation can "claim being a Liberator of Europe" anymore, as we have just to preserve it.
    Kind regards,
    Jan😉

An example of why this is a moot point: If you have 1,000 tanks, and the enemy has 10,000 tanks, you lose. It doesn not matter how good your tanks are built and how good the crews are or even how proficient the command is on the battlefield: you would be overwhelmed and eventually knocked out.
This is the only reason the Soviets "won" at all. They just have the sheer numbers. Other than that they may have had the technical advantage for a short window of time here and there which was effective at slowing Barbarossa, but to say that their tanks were some godlike war machines is ridiculous and is known propaganda.

    • @jimshorts6751

The Sherman became a Great tank after it adopted one-piece front armor. It was faster than the Panzer, twice as fast turret rotation, and "fuel efficient" in comparison. It's kill to loss ratio was 4 or 5 to one, if I remember correctly. The newest Sherman's also had a wet munition storage to combat against cook-off after a hit. Very nice tank and long legs. She served until the 2000s in some countries.

Sherman was the worst of all. Soviet crews were horrified of a possibility of becoming a Sherman crew. Field crematoriums and coffin for 5 brothers were the nicknames given to the Sherman by Russian soldiers. Zippo lighter by the Germans. Domestic Soviet tanks were not designed to be "luxury tanks" by any means, but they were 10 years ahead of anything anglo american.
