    1) Denmark does not have high mountains. As far as I know, Denmark doesn’t have ANY mountains.
    2) Was a Piper Cub with an American star dropping surrender leaflets on Denmark in 1940?
    3) German steel is OK for railroad tracks and structural elements but doesn’t have the right composition for the fine tool steels required for weapon mechanisms. Churchill wanted to bomb Swedish steel production sites, but the British didn’t have bombers with enough range AND Sweden was neutral. Would it have joined Germany after a Royal Air Force attack?
    Even today Norwegians are sore about Sweden’s neutrality and supplying tool steel to Nazi Germany BUT . . .
    1) Sweden provided safe haven for the Norwegian resistance raiders who bombed the heavy water plant;
    2) Sweden provided safe haven for Max Magnusson and the Norwegian resistance fighters who kayaked up to German battleships and stuck magnetic mines on their hulls and sank a few of them.

    • @DanThomas1161
      @DanThomas1161 Місяць тому

      If Sweden was really neutral, they wouldn't be supplying ingredients necessary (essential) for the German War machine. Offering safe haven to few rebels (made no difference in any way) was nothing but a political ploy for regional sensibilities. Sweden was not neutral. It was a very important German (key) ally. Sweden knew what they were doing exactly well.

      You know what I think is funny ish , the engenders and farmers, people in general back then they thought things through. Like these days we watch a two minute move or go to school and we told things but we don't think it through or question anything. Back then people told you you couldn't do something and you said why not , someone said this is how it works and when you see it not working out like they say your told shut up you don't know any better.
      For example the old jeeps back then they dropped in crates and soldiers put them together in like half an hour and were off and they went through horrible muddy conditions ,gold , Fluds , and worse.....these days on the farm I've got a buggy specifically built for farm work by great engineers , and it breaks down from little things all time , can't tow or carry bugger all and gets clogged up with mud in the engine area that takes hours of water blasting to clean out . We have lost so much common sense and engineering abilities to intellectual things that are supposed to be better but aren't

    How can you talk about Narvik without mentioning Churchill, it was his plan that failed, ironically, it is Chamberlain who was blamed for the failure and Churchill became prime minister without ever being elected, the warmongers behind him were obviously extremely powerful, forcing the King's hand.
    There was also a terrible war crime committed by the British but of course, no one knows about it: When the British sank the last of the German destroyers, the Erich Giese near Narvik on 13 April 1940, the survivors swimming for their lives were shot at by the British. An inquiry was called for but the British sailors involved in the incident happened to all be on vacation at that time, so judge Sieber dismissed the case and among the allies, the whole affair was soon forgotten, but not in Germany...

    Yeh, Haaken asked for refuge in Sweden, but was refused as Haaken was seen as Usurper, his father was voted in over Gustef V of Sweden, and of course he hadn't forgotten. (Gustef IV lost Finland by the way... triple crown). Makes you wonder how different things would have been if they hadn't had that vote 1903 I think). Still if you know history, thre are many times where Norway and Sweden ad differences of opinions,. They said that Gustef was not "Norwegian" enough, which I guess was fair enough, The royals had been based too long in Sweden, probably since Canute who I think took a Swedish princess as a bride (another triple crown that made, king of England, Norway and then Sweden too) Can't say life is fair eh? although they tried to make things fair as the royals after that tried to always tried to think of both folks, the black haired Norwegians and the Blonde Swedish... mix them you get "fair" hair... like mine.
    P.S. Popes also think they are "God on Earth" but stay away from trying to stop the tide eh?

      First he had to fend off rivals (he is a minor king at this time). There are many scores to be paid off against the memory of his father
      Under his Uncles tutelage, Harald establishes himself in Vestfold and makes himself Master of the neighbouring kingdom too. There is a quote here "The blood-red stem had taken root (p53)
      Concerning the name Mophead After he had defeated most of his near rivals, he met a princess called Gyda of Hordaland, she told him that she could not marry petty kingling who did not have a proper kingdom to his name, He swore not cut or comb his hair until he had subdued the whole of Norway. Eventually, he succeeded, and and Gyda was impressed enough to join him (along with the other wives and concubines he had)
      On the meeting Earl Rognvold clipped his hair, unclipped for 10 years says the Saga says, and the nickname became Finehair (They are said to have jet black hair).
