It's like he discovered a cheat code in a video game that everyone but him knows about and he's asking himself "You can do that? Is it even allowed?" Like it never occurred to him as a possibility

The cutaway to Nicks expression changing every time it cuts back to him is such an underrated moment no one is talking about The editing and timing is impeccable
I love it whenever Nick gets his voice high pitched 😂😂😂It never seems he is faking it...hats off to Jake Johnson for giving this lovable and very authentic Nick character absolute justice.
I love how that last "What do you mean?" felt like he was giving Schmidt a final chance to hopefully explain that he wasn't in fact two-timing and Nick just heard wrong.
My favorite part has to be the commitment to "... this is the way the world works!" And then the change to an exasperated "i dont know" He is so perfect in this role.
I had a buddy who did this. I had pretty much the same reaction Nick had, specifically his expression and tone when he says "how do you do that". My mind was blown that someone would even attempt it. It didn't last long, but to this day, every now and then, I'll bring it up to him because I have no idea how a person can compartmentalize it. There is so much nuance to a relationship, how don't you ever mix it up and bring up a story about a mutual friend to the wrong one? Or reference a wrong memory? More to the point, why would you ever put yourself in a position where you have to worry about it?
If you regularly watch Nick Miller, you can literally see where a lot of my quirks come from. He is very similar to me. Sometimes I mirror his cadence. Especially when he's confused or upset lmao
What gets me is that one moment where nick just gives a thousand yard stare when Schmidt says he didn’t break up with either of them, like he gets what Schmidt’s saying but still needs more to process
You can tell this scene is assembled from many different takes. It would be impossible to nail this kind of comedic timing if it was just one shot of both of them talking. Nick probably just sat there and said "what do you mean?" in a ton of different ways, and then they cut the ones they liked most and pasted them into the scene. The comedy is actually more about the editing in this scene than the writing, which is interesting.
This makes a lot of sense, because the reaction shot of Nick all bug-eyed doesn't match his energy at that moment. Clearly dropped in from another take.
Am I the only one who actually kinda understands what Schmidt is going through? Like it’s that he used to be overweight and now is in shape and has multiple women attracted to him so got cocky and thought he’d indulge in that privileged position, but rather that the deep insecurity and self-loathing stills resides within him years after he stopped being ridiculed for his weight, so much so that he actually cannot believe or feel secure that either one of them is going to stay with him even if he were to choose one. Of course this is not to say that this justifies his actions.

The way he says "you think you could have a buncha wives!?" is so natural and hilarious like he just thought of it.
It was probably improvised lol
A lot of the show was improvised. I wouldn't be surprised
It's brilliant that he switches to "wifes" instead of "women".
I just saw a clip of Cece and Winston’s actors on a podcast (which is what brought me here) and yeah most of this is improvised. Super cool!
