Always loved these and I have owned a few. I had a mint 1966 example in Sunburst that had been owned by Glen Campbell.
I’m the same age as Lemmo as everyone was into hockey when we were kids. The mighty ducks movies were the reason behind it.
I'm serious in saying this guitar seems like a piece Jimmy Page would be interested in owning. Outstanding example!
Lemmo is one of the best players on the internet. I could watch him all day!! What a great guitarist! ✌
rhythm playing is unique and rock solid.
C'mon--you know you wanted to play Stairway to Heaven on that thing!!
Always amazing to watch Lemmo play. It’s great how he seems to let the instrument dictate his style and always sounds amazing. Great job and thanks for such wonderful content.
SQUIER just came out with one ! 😮
The guitar is a beautiful color and in great condition. Thanks. 🎸👍😎✌️
What's the first tune he's playing?
Tom Petty Swingin?
Nice to hear Lemmo playing a 12-string in regular 12 tuning. He usually tunes the bottom four pairs in fifths rather than octaves, which sounds cool, but I like having the octave pairs. I first saw a Fender XII in probably 1966, could have been late ‘65 if any were out in the world that early. It was in the Fender booth at a Teenage Fair (anybody remember those?), and the Fender rep told me it was a prototype-which was why he wasn’t letting anybody play it! I’d wanted one ever since, couldn’t afford it at 15-I wound up getting a Vox Phantom XII later. Fast-forward 53 years, and Fender did a limited run of Electric XIIs in 2019, so after decades of waiting for Fender to reissue the darn things, I finally got one. I’ve dug 12-strings since the days of the Beatles and the Byrds, and when I finally got my Fender XII it had been fifty-some years since I’d had the Vox. The Vox looked better than it sounded and felt; the Fender is much better.
Back then the Voxes were dogs,,,,still looking for my Fender 12,
Wow what a truly special instrument! Thanks for sharing!
The out of phase tone is what you buy one of these for.
Robert Smith played one with Siouxsie and the Banshees. His has a maple fingerboard -- only one I've ever seen ua-cam.com/video/s-5mVUb1gqM/v-deo.html
SLAPSHOT- voted comment of the day heard at NRG!
Can't beat the sound of an electric 12!
The sound is truly awesome
There are pictures of Carl Wilson playing this model on stage in '65 albeit in white.
I love the quirky models! Really cool stuff. Can't remember the name/artist of the first song that Lemmo played. Can anyone please help me out with that?
That would look nice sitting in the passenger seat in my 66 Corvette convertible candy apple Red 👌. If I Had A Vette. 🤔
You guys have all been doing a great job.
Love the jangle from this beast! Such a unique guitar! Thanks for the great demo!
My goodness that’s a weird headstock. I had a MIM Strat in this same color scheme and it was the best Fender I owned. I miss that thing.
It's actually the latest Leo Fender's Design for Fender Guitar just before leaving the company to CBS
6:48 Mojo Pin by Jeff Buckley sounds other-worldly on this guitar!
one of these in my local guitar shop in Japan right now for $850USD - original 1966 not 2019 reissue. Personally i dont like candy apple red - i'd like to strip it back and refinish it - any suggestions for a new finish?
Love the sound but hate the headstock
Well they certainly picked the right guy to demo this guitar. I usually hardly notice what is being played in these demo vids because its usually boring and unoriginal cliched hackery. This was the opposite.
This was the perfect chance for Lemmo to say, “ I quit playing hockey when I got my first guitar, for my second birthday. I started practicing 40 hours a day, and never looked back!!’😂
What a unique and great sounding guitar. It’s going to be a treasure for someone.
I have the same thing with my pick up selector from 66
WOW ! A rig rundown premiered today for Flaming Lips. Guy has this crazy double neck with a missing neck. Says they use this cause he don't want his 66 Fender XII going out on the road. Said to myself What's that look like? BOOM Hrs later Norm's has a 66 Fender XII video out. Coincidence ? Things that make you go HMMMmmmm
Somebody buy that Twelve for Lemmo!!😊
Intro. Loved it.
Case flips open and i say to myself, That's BadAss. I love offsets.
A second later, Brandon said "Its bad ass...."
I agree before hearing a note.
Rock on !!
The candy apple red field hockey 🏑 stick guitar 🎸......cool!😎
Dude really knows his guitars.
love mojo pin
That song sounds very velvet underground for some reason but I can't think why…❤️
Should’ve played flower people by Spinal Tap.
I've seen Jimmy Page playing one.
Always thought these were neat guitars, but never was willing to get one unless a human being came with it to keep the friggin thing in tune. 😄
🤣🤣🤣 Yup !
whatever that was when he switched to position 3, incredible. love it
according to what brandon said position 3 would be bridge pickup only. lemmo started off in position 4 (switch pointing up) brandon said position 1 is all the way down.
I would have been six or seven when that beauty hit stores, and it still looks like my idea of the future
My buttocks clench every time they swing those guitars around in that narrow space ! 😨
Lemmo always kills it! Awesome!!!
Somehow when I saw this was guitar of the day, I knew he was going to play a Jeff Buckley song
I can hear the wrecking crew.
Brandon ROCKS !!!!!!!!
That guitar sounds amazing.
Thanks for sharing always very enjoyable
Johnny Winter, Woodstock?
that last set really showed off that guitar 🎸🎸🎸🎸👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼nice jazzy sound 🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺
Can you ship to Mexico?
I used to have one of those, in the more common sunburst, 1967. I bought in 1979 for $125. I was a huge Genesis fan and loved that dreamy psychedelic sound.
What's name of first song he plays?
Swingin' by Tom Petty
CBS had nothing to do with the design or concept- it was all Leo Fender. It had been in development before the CBS takeover. Jimmy Page played one on Stairway to Heaven (!)
Dang Mike, you gotta pumped about the Flyers picking Mitchkov yesterday! Tough being a Philly fan these days...I digress. Great vid! Thanks for all the content!
This guitar plugged directly into the master recording console is what gave Stairway to Heaven its signature sound. All done in F maj 7. Remarkable.
This a really great sounding guitar -
guess they just weren't selling well??
After George Harrison started playing a Rickenbacker 360 12 string in the Beatles, all the other big guitar makers came out with their own versions. None of ‘em sold in large numbers.
Yo Mike. What's up with your knuckles? You been laying a beat down left-handed?
I believe Gary Richrath of Reo Speedwagon played one of these on his song ‘In Your Letter’… a departure from his usual Les Pauls. Anyway, wow, that guitar sounds great!
That is a special beastie.
Fantastic guitar -- I think Norm's buddy Tom Petty used to play a white one of those. Wonder if he bought it here.
Cool guitar played masterfully but no Byrds?! You don’t wanna be a rock n roll star?
Pink floyd soon?:((((
Guitar store employees always look like they just got out of bed a few minutes ago.
This is by far the most famous Fener Electric XII in history.
Played before a half million people at Woodstock by the incredible Johnny Winter!
But, here's the catch! Johnny only had 6 strings on it when he was playing it! Used it for slide on "Mean Town Blues" here.

Here's a TV show from 1970 in Copenhagen: ua-cam.com/video/HgJZWcdrBiQ/v-deo.html at 15:20 he plays the Fender Electric XII - with the 6 strings on it for the same song.
No. The most famous Fender XII was played by Jimmy Page on Stairway to Heaven.
The first time I saw one of these was a picture of Pete Townshend from The Who playing one. They look cool AF.
I got a blonde version of this 66 and it's got the same pickup set up so cool!
Very nice, my Aria RS 800/12 from 1981 is fantastic too..
My favorite use of the Fender XII is when Johnny Winter used one but strung it with 6 strings
Hey! Anyone knows if the first tune lemmo plays here is a tune he played before or is it a famous one? If so i will instantly search for a tutorial… love it!
Beautiful demo by Lemmo! What was that first piece of music you played ?it was great!
Love that color! I have the 2019 model in blue. Fantastic guitars!!
Sweet playin.
I felt for sure mr tambourine man was coming next. 😂
Big Lemmo 🎸💥🎶
👍✌❤😎 sweet
some known musicians took 6 of the strings off and played it
La douze cordes…. Ne jamais dire que c’est compliqué. Le rendu est tellement beau (cf Led Zeppelin et aujourd’hui Queens of the Stone Age…)
Fender needs to make more 12-string electrics!
Beautiful! Tea Party vibes
That sounds so very good,Well Done.
🎸
Beautiful Lemm
Title of 1st song, please? - great presentation and playing, as always!
It's a Tom Petty tune Swingin
As if I would ever think of owning that particular model, after all the time I have spent talking about how I don't personally abide with vintage guitars any longer, I still have this to say. After all the hockey references that Jen, Brandon and Michael made during this particular demo, I can still imagine getting that guitar and naming it after the title character portrayed by Rob Lowe in Youngblood. That one definitely is interesting among the hockey movies I've seen so far.
I’d name it Ogie
@@Brisco45acpogie Oglethorpe
Sounds amazing!
I kinda like it
Great to see the whole crew for this GotD episode- the jabs between Brandon and Lemmo were funny. That Fender Electric XII looks fantastic. The wiring set up for that one was probably done aftermarket I'm guessing. I was waiting for Lemmo to interject the that hockey stick headstock is more a field hockeystick shape rather than ice hockey. Props to Lemmo for playing it his way and not the usual Byrds-Zeppelin-Eagles 12-string cliche tunes.
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT
THESE ARE THE BEST ELECTRIC 12ST GUITARS
You guys need to get over yourselves. How many saddles? That would be nice to know
Great playing, Michael!
nothin like it on the internet, wow! what an amazing guitar. Lemmo gives us his genius every GOTD. thanks for sharing, Jen you're amazing! thank you so much.
If I was a collector, that would be a MUST! (And well played, as always)👍
Man that axe is ice picky AF. owner gonna need to tweak THE crap out of the amp
Michael you crack me up man ha ha ha ,I would dare to say your not wiping you nose with toiletpaper nice playing man and the guitar sounds amazing helps when your a accompolished guitarist for sure cheers!!!!1

Wtf is that?!?!
a hockey bat with strings
Seriously? This was the machine Jimmy used for Stairway!
Who gives a shit. Norm has a whole warehouse of these old guitars
Um, maybe the 500,000 subscribers that enjoy watching videos about vintage guitars....🤔
That guitar is sexual 🎉
