I saw Hoppy Potty at the Berlinkastute Festival in '95. They passed out syrup packets to the audience after the 13 minute concert. I got to see Elka 2 years later eating walnuts next to a Stoopwaffle truck, very nice person.
I had no idea it was a real band. I thought that they were just poking fun at Norwegian pop culture in general. Norwegians and Swedes, Finns all remind me of Mormons. They are weird and kinda goofy, but the friendliest people you could possibly meet.
I think this is less mocking Europeans in general, and more making fun of the specific type of Euro-pop/dance thing that hit the USA in the late 1990's. Europeans getting angry at this would be like Americans getting angry at a Justin Bieber parody.
@oaklandj You have clearly been in Europe and understand every little facet of the musical taste that is predominant in the area. Never mind the booming industry of music that never reaches USA but sells just fine in the rest of the world, not to mention the vast underground of alternative music that is far more different and innovative than anything your "Brooklyn Scene" could ever produce. Nope, all that means nothing. Aqua is the shit!
I just watched that interview and had to have fun Hoppy Potty! Those poor girls. And you'd never know in a million years, the ordeal they went through here.
Aanonlie Marius America seems to have melded the regions of Scandinavia and Germany into one thing. This is also obvious in Golden Girls, where Rose's nonsensical Scandinavian words sound German in origin.
No, they don't. Even before "Ace of Base" and "Modern Talking", they liked music of this genre... (Even before ABBA - "Eurovision" showcased music like this dreck.)
I see a mix of ABBA, Aqua and Ace of base. :) I'm Norwegian, and this is one of my favourite MAD-TV sketches. :D
Very funny that an American sketch show parodied europop 😂
Don’t forget Toy-Box😂😂😂

Oh snap they're a real band? Lol I didn't realize that!!
@@taitjones6310 they aren't real lol
I love the story. They passed out syrup packets lol
lmao love this folklore 😂😂😂
Alex face when she was walking out of the dressing room was priceless! 🤣
I loved music like this when I was a kid, and this sketch was such a stingingly accurate representation of these groups.
i thought it was an ace of base parody
"Inga make the move-lips..."
I don't know why I find that line so funny.
I love how they speak german.. Close to the scandinavian language, yes, but pronounciation is from another world! And this is SO typically swedish!!
LMAO "PUT YOUR CLAP TOGETHER!"
I still hum this song on occasion or sing "everybody want fun potty." It just pops in my head at random moments.
Pat Kilbanes eyebrow is the star 😂
EVERYBODY WANT FUN PARTY
Omg I'm a huge Mad fan but I've never seen this skit.
Excellent rendition of a Scandinavian pop group
ikr, known them for like 10 years yet just saw this for the 1st time. And it's wholesome, love it
I had never seen this before either. Loved it!
I remember this one! But I didn’t know they had done prior Hoppy Potty skits before this
This is one of the funniest things that cast did and it seems like it went right over most of the audience's head.
Yeah. I always expected them to do more Hoppy Potty but it is possible they didn't because Pat Kilbane left the show soon after
I was wondering that too.
Searching for this sketch had UA-cam drag me across so many potty training videos.
I mean, two birds one stone. I can almost do it on my own now.
ROFL!
I think they were inspired by Aqua and Vengaboys (The group with the sailor and the cowboy, plus the two sexy girls) mostly.
They were all America knew of that genre of music, really.
Hoppy Potty reunion tour!!
Should've done a guest appearance on LazyTown. It would've rocked.
Well, I used to listen to stuff like this back in the 90s, but only when I was drunk. I think I was drunk very often.
"Put your clap together" lol
This just popped into my head haven't seen it since I was like 8!
Me too. This and the Halloween version Shpooky Potty. 😅
When they said everybody want fun potty, I felt that.
finally i have been looking for this everywhere
eurovision in a nutshell
I never knew there was another video of Hoppy Potty. Interesting to see.
That's the Halloween version
You're lying if you say that this song isn't catchy and gets stuck in your head for days! 😂
These band they rock so hard I loves them so much!
I was thinking Aqua really! XD
WOOT! Hoppy Potty!
i enjoyed it
That was actually a good song!
Right? With a somewhat better production this could pass as a late 90s/early 00s euro hit
MINE YYYAAAAAAARRRRLLLL!!! XD
Whoah the comments for intense ...
It really is just a Madtv skit folks. No need to troll each other ...
Potty on!!!
Jello Shots Potty? Heh, that takes me back.
Somebody needs to put this video on youtube but only the song
This is like that episode of Arthur.
Recorded On KOKH-TV FOX 25 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
EVERY BODY WANT FUN POTTY
@madoldies Don't forget about Aqua - I definitely think the band is based a lot on Aqua because they're Scandinavian.
Alex when she leaves the interview lol ...
She's like "WTF??!!" 🤣
Didnt see anyone comment on Mo'sf fuckup
@oaklandj
I never knew I do, but thanks for telling me...

Give it up for Mo and Nicole, they had bloody feet from doing take after take dancing in those shoes on those platforms. They were in incredible pain.
I just watched that interview and had to have fun Hoppy Potty! Those poor girls. And you'd never know in a million years, the ordeal they went through here.
@@phillipford2216 Where can I find the interview?
@@Catenfur It's from 2020, "MadTV Reunion | Mo Collins and Nicole Sullivan Interview at Mainframe Comic Con", at 17:35.
@@phillipford2216 Thank you!
Yum yum chocostick
They were making fun of the European pop bands that were big in the 90's like Aqua and Vegaboys.
So why is a scandinavian group speaking cod-german? :D
Aanonlie Marius America seems to have melded the regions of Scandinavia and Germany into one thing. This is also obvious in Golden Girls, where Rose's nonsensical Scandinavian words sound German in origin.
Or bcos the German accent is more convenient and recognizable thus more vulnerable to ridicule.
@oaklandj So are you, lol. Generalising both music and any person who lives in Europe.
I always thought that Mo Collins is a twin sister of Frida from Abba. Now I I'm sure.
Frida passed away. Don't speak ill of her.
@@davidgarris2513wtf are you talking about? She didn't
@@draggindrugin sorry I was thinking about Laura branigan. Frida is 74

It is indeed only making fun of "Euro-Disco", but Jason Bieber is from CANADA, not the US.
I don't know about you, but i'm finnish, and were total metalheads!
Fox 25 pffff live outa Roxbury
Damn, Pit Kilbane looks a lot liek Pete Steele
This show was never as good after Will Sasso left.
Pat kikbine is creepy af! In this one hahaha
@oaklandj Even this is better than Justin Bieber and other shit on radios
They're like ABBA,only...better!
Is this ABBA😂😂😂
lmao mo collins messed up her line
If they're Scandinavian, why the fuck would they speak German?
Was.. Lol

better than todays shit music
Soooo American´s don´t listen to crappy music? ...=)
Negative stereotypes of white people are so funny. ( sarcasm)
