Yeah but think about it, Kendrick was threatening Drake at the end of the track... he made it clear this wasn't his kill shot and yet still... He skated on this track better than most anyone ever could. The man took all the shit that's out there already and because of his delivery, writing style and tone it becomes a dozen missiles. If I were Drake I wouldn't want to hear his red button and if he replies, which I think he will, that button is getting pressed. I ain't heard someone call someone a deadbeat dad in that type of way. It cuts through the music and sounds like a condemnation of his soul. It sounded like real hate and disgust, not just an insult

I have to question whether this podcast truly understands Hip Hop history. Pusha T was never going to end Drake's career with Story of Addidon. That diss track was strong and bruised Drake, but it was never going to damage Drake's aura. What CAN damage Drake's aura is breaking down how he's perceived. Similar to what 50 cent did to Ja Rule. Painting Drake as a culture vulture who never grew up in the black community, suggesting his rap persona is acting, his apparent disdain for women like Rihanna, Megan the Stallion, etc. Kendrick's angle was to take down the very essence of how we see Drake. That is Hip Hop.

Everyone knows Drake is responding. Not a single person in that live chat said Drake was finished and couldn’t possibly come back. All the chat wanted was an unbiased review and an in-depth breakdown of the diss. I’m pretty sure the chat was upset because you all:
    1. Rushed through lines and called parts "filler.”
    2. Talked about how Kendrick didn’t meet your expectations while you’re only reviewing surface-level bars.
    3. Down played the impact of the diss.
    4. Then, Lu went out of his way to offend the chat by telling us to clip him, saying that Drake would win before he even did his due diligence as a critic and finished Kendrick’s track.
It feels like you’re trying to use your platform to influence the outcome of the battle and tilt it in Drake's favor.

These people are more interested in this beef looking like a TMZ segment rather than who has the better pen… when your frame of reference for rap beef is Pusha T’s song it just shows how ignorant these people are about the wider culture. Nothing new has been said is the biggest criticism they have but Kendrick didn’t have to bring up anything new he placed Drake in the context he moves in and called him out for it while responding to Drake’s diss. Drake doesn’t respond to the disses that have been said by others so Kendrick is putting the ball in his court. If someone calls you a shitty dad it won’t feel any better the next time someone does again.
Lastly, Kendrick mentions him getting robbed, slapped by Puff, that Drake asked him for a feature that he turned down, and that he tried to cease and desist Like That. Trying to cease and desist a diss record is plenty new info and if that shit happened in the 90s this beef would’ve been over.

I think Melon’s maybe missed the take when it comes to the Joel Hale Osteen bar. The problem with reading crowdsourced lyrics off Genius is that they aren’t always 100, and as I write this they still haven’t been corrected to “Joel Hale Osteen” which is clearly the lyric. It’s on UA-cam, if you don’t catch it put it on 0.5x if you have to. It seems unlikely that a guy who Drake himself was making fun of for quintuple entendres, who likely spent the last two weeks putting together this track where half the bars have multiple meanings, would goof and unintentionally portmanteau “Joel Osteen” and “Haley Joel Osment”. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but highly unlikely. I’m also not saying that it’s a god-level lyric, but it makes very little sense that it would be an unintentional goof.
I think Melon’s a bit chapped since he’s catching flak after baking his take into his vid on the subject.
Whatever the case, I hope Drake comes back like fire so that this game keeps going. It’d be sad if euphoria was the end of it. I wanna hear what round 3 will sound like.

From the minute he popped up in the mainstream, we’ve questioned his authenticity, his masculinity, his racial identity, his soft image and sensitivity. The thing that Push revealed and Kendrick has the opportunity to fully drive home is that Drake is not a hip-hop star. He's a pop star who does some rap and features rappers, but he's not hip-hop. Kendrick and Push can't possibly ruin Drake's career unless Drake does something so monumentally stupid that somehow loses his pop audience, but Kendrick can finally kill this idea that Drake belongs anywhere near the "top x rappers" discussion. You can be a pop country singer, or you can be a pop rock band, or you can do pop electronica. But you cannot be a pop star who does hip-hop, because hip-hop requires you to reject pop to some degree. I swear some of y'all got spoiled by that the Pusha T situation. You don't have to always unpack new information or go at different angles all the time. It's an effective method for sure don't get me wrong, but it's not required. In any form of battle rap, what's most important is using the content that you can collect and how you utilise it to make creative and hard hitting bars. That's what Kendrick did. Sure, he used common talking points surrounding Drake but was able to still craft and great, effective and hard hitting response that gets the job done. Same could be said about a lot of great diss tracks over the years and even battle rap in general. (even Push Ups which I also think was a solid track)
