  • ""These are frightening times for many
The world is changing and there is no stopping those changes.
But in such times there are always two ways to go.
    Run and hide. Build walls.
Cower in fear and suspicion, point the finger at our neighbours.
Look, like desperate frightened people do, for someone to blame.
Or stand up and try, at least try, to build a better world.
To look for, instead of a man on a horse to save us, or a wall to keep us apart, to our better angels."" - Chef Anthony Bourdain (Parts Unknown)

Nigella Lawson take on brexit is interesting. Her father was a big part of the leave campaign. I can only imagine the family dinners afterwards.

What I found amusing about this episode is all the people complaining that Brexit was made xenophobia and racism all lived outside of London in extremely wealthy and extremely white areas of the UK. They love the diversity so much they live as far from it as possible behind closed gates.

For many of us Brexit had nothing to do with immigration. We were rejecting governance by unelected/unaccountable bureaucrats. Britain’s voted to join a Common Market had they been told the truth at the time that they were stepping onto the path toward a Union controlled by bureaucrats that are chosen by an elite and don’t answer to an electorate I don’t believe we would ever have joined.

Nice try, but you're full of sh*te. Funny that you don't actually mention onr particular thing in Britain that was actually controlled by the horrible bureaucrats in Brussels. Nothing, not a single example. You don't mention the fact that the wealthy upper class and the City bankers desperately wanted Brexit, because it would allow them to avoid EU banking and personal financial disclosure reforms that would have exposed them to many ££Billions in previously hidden tax liabilities.
The rich sided with Leave, and paid for the campaign of lies to promote it, because their offshore holding companies and tax shelters in the Caymans, Jersey, Guernsey, Cyprus and other tax havens would have finally have been taxed.
      That's Brexit in a nutshell.

The British public elected it's MEPs & Britain was one of the EU members with veto power, what's unelected or unaccountable about that?

@@InnuendoXP The EU commission has all the power the Commissioners are appointed not elected. The Parliament and it’s members are no more than window dressing to give the illusion of Democracy.

Whole of eu should be abolished as a political entity, that dictates member countries policies. As an economic union, it might've been effective but as it is now, it's simply a disaster. Schengen area comes first to mind, when thinking about policies that royally buggered the whole continent.

Which is why cutting Britain off to be at the mercy of the "sovereignty" of a pack of disconnected toffs under a reigning monarch is so much better than at least having some basic bare minimums that a stack of other actual democratic states can collectively agree on. 🙄
