Pat Mac has honed “the knuckle dragger version” to a science. He just explained, very well, in 100 seconds, what I’ve heard others take an hour to cover, and still not get their point across.
The fact that he brought out a white board means he really wants us to understand the theory of operation and not just imagine it in your head then if you don't understand it's on you. Mark of a true professional instructor.
@Gawasi 88 -- I was going to leave a very similar comment. All understanding starts at the "knuckle-dragger" level. And, the truest test of someone's intimate understanding of something complex (sightline vs barrel bore; external ballistics) is their ability to relate it simply, easy-to-understand, and without confusion. Pat Mac hammered this one!
You would think. I was range rso and this kid had no eye relief, he will figure it out. Nope end of the day I had his plt sgt pissed that he had a black eye lol. Some people are just thick
Yeager is right about you , as usual. It is crystal clear that you absolutely know your stuff. I would not have realized that temperature made that much of a difference. Thanks man
call me a monkey, but from where i am standing, military retire's shouldn't have to pay taxes. PERIOD. i'm damn close to saying VETERANs shouldn't have to pay taxes and neither should active duty soldiers....the way i see it, those who do not have the guts to serve, can pay the taxes.
Pat Mac, I've probably watched 15-20 of your videos. What stands out, apart from your intensity and love of sharing knowledge, is how damned intelligent you are. Every subject I've watched you cover, you hammer the basics in a way that makes them easily understood AND you show them as the building blocks of more advanced applications. Great mind, great teaching skills. Would enjoy taking a class from you one day.
"The basics" are always the most important thing to a master of a craft, especially a delta operator. Absolute mastery of the basics is what takes someone from good to great. Everyone should strive to become great at something, regardless of what that something is. Learning how to develop a skill is itself the most valuable skill to know.
I think you just put a 5 hour course for zeroing and maintaining zero and external ballistics (mouthful) in one short and to the point video. And you somehow drew those graphs UPSIDE DOWN with no issue, which is even better. Hats off.
Pat has a method of disseminating a maximum amount of information in a short period of time, love it. Though this block of instruction was given a thousand times in my military career, it's one I often have to revisit to keep the fundamentals fresh in my mind. Point of order, you can watch 10 youtubers give a 20 minute class on this, or just watch a 5 minute video by the GOAT.
I have heard him teach things the same freaking way each and every time he teaches them, which goes to show he has no doubts about what he says the external ballistics talk is almost word for word the exact same one he gave the 10th mountain division
I learned this in the 90's during my time in the Corp. Its a simple concept that for many is hard to grasp. The info is invaluable. Thanks for sharing. Knowledge is power. In this day and age, we all need to be proficient rifleman. THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE IS STRONGER THAN THE PEOPLE IN POWER 🇺🇲 🏴☠️
Had an awesome opportunity to attend a Mike Pannone rifle class. Between you and him, I can see why your former unit is tip of the spear. Love to see a conversation between you two.
I'm amazed at the amount of information you crammed into this video, without it seeming like you rushed anything. Nice work! I will share this with all my shooting buddies.
Thank you for the down and dirty on your setups and some ballistic basics. My wife is putting an Aimpoint on her AR-variant and your opinions are reinforcing her choice. Thanks again.
I've heard you're not an expert in any particular field until you can explain a complex topic in terms a five year old can understand: I believe Pat Mac exceeded this concept's parameters.
Dude I was always so confused when people say the bullet goes up when it leaves the barrel, the illustration totally corrected my understanding. Now I'm starting to think a lot of those guys who talk about this don't know their ass from their elbow...
Great video sir! Witness marks on optics for sure. I try to show friends and fellow shooters both were and why to put witness marks with a paint pen. Then if anything moves or comes loose you know immediately.
I always struggled to understand minutes of angle and how wind/temperature affect bullets. This is the one video where it clicked; your teaching skills are unparalleled. it is obvious that you love doing this.
Love using the end of the sling as a brace, did basically the same thing in afghanistan but i just wove 550 cord into a nice fat rope over the sling about 7" long
Man you need to run for congress , then president. We need a warrior leader to square away the shit show . You have a lot of people who would stand with you.

Temperature and associated humidity are critical factors in bullet drop.
They are the wisemen of Tactics, Shooting, Etc..
This kind of knowledge transfer is so precious and good, Pat should be able to write this off his taxes 😀
Someone watches GBRS videos ;)

Your skill at explaining and instructing is 5/5. Extremely underrated channel/goldmine

5 hours? I was thinking 14 years
Quick, clear, and concise. Others make a 30 minute video to ramble on and on about a rifle setup. Knuckle dragger version is right on point.
Gotta love the Pat Mac breakdowns --simple, clear even a knuckle dragger like myself can make sense of it

You know he just did you a favor when you understand your last range trip better after a Pat Mac video.

Good ballistic info in a nutshell. Thank you Pat.
Pat "each click represents what minute of angle?"
Me "1/4"
Pat "most of you should say 1/2. It's not 1/4"
Me "Shit!"
Love the content, Sir. Thank you!
Really depends on the optic. Lower end optic like the Bushnell s-25 is 1in at 100y. My "Counter Sniper" is 1/4in @100y.
Then there is that whole owner’s manual thing. Believe it or not, there tends to be useful stuff in there, like adjustment increments.
Dude
So much knowledge dropped in 5min- way to go Pat! Thank you
