This is the most descriptive tutorial I’ve found most of them just glide over some parts like taking out a ribbon cable when I never took one out before and you helped me figure it out, thanks
as someone who hasnt taken many things apart before, thank you for this video it was so informative and easy to follow... and now i have a purple controller too!!
I recently was intrested in ordering some custom nintendo pro controllers, and realised if i wanted any ones that i liked (mostly 3rd party) i would have to buy the shell, and i was worried to take apart my switch, but seeing this calms my nerves as it looks fairly easy
Omg thank you for making this tutorial. I just bought one and I started taking it apart and saw the ribbon and the required surgery I panicked and put it back together with just the new back plate. But after watching this I'm going to do the surgery lol
wow, the pro controller is way easier than to stupid joycons, thanks! you earned my like and my sub :D all the other tutorials, people weren't showing the ribbon cable and they were skip over some screws, but you were perfect!
Absolutely fantastic! I was grateful to find someone who made an accurate video for the extremeRate shells; I would appreciate maybe seeing the specific screws just to make sure I don’t use the wrong one but otherwise great video mate
Cheers 👍🏻 This video is a couple of years old and since then in my extremerate videos I’ve started using a magnetic screw mat to keep a track of the screws. Really helps
I’ve used your tutorials for the joy cons and (soon to be using it) for the back plate and they’re super helpful and really made it less daunting! So thank you! Did you have a walkthrough of changing the buttons, triggers and joysticks for the pro controller by any chance? I’ve got a monochrome order coming from extremerate but nervous about the extra bits!
I just invested in a switch pro controller and I'm wanting to change the shell to a Zelda themed one, definitely referring back to this tutorial once I find a shell I like!
I'm having a hard time getting the first two grip screws off. The updated version that I just ordered arrived and it only came with the black screw. I've tried for about a half-hour straight trying to get them off and at this point, it is shredding the screwdriver. Any suggestions on cheaper ($10 or under) good Nintendo screwdrivers?
I followed this, put the control back together but for some reason it's literally working fine but not working wirelessly?! It works with the cable plugged in though. What have I done? Edit: oops, just had to push the battery in more.
Thanks for the video, my son broke 2 shoulder buttons on 2 controllers. I fixed one but I am missing the rubber contact pad for the upper R button, do you know if this part is available?
I did this and now none of my face buttons have any input, the analong sticks work, the right bumper is now the pause button and the home button is now ZR, Any help?
Dang im doing this now n its easy, but im having issues with my home button now fitting and i dont wanna use to much force, when i did my joycons i had to buy another set cause they wouldnt fit
Hey I'm considering trying to do this for my pro controller but I'm new and nervous about it. What other tools did you use besides the ones from the kit?
The ones in the lot will do you. This mod is one of the easier ones so you should be ok 👍🏻 If you want to get the extremerate cross opening kit, but it’s not essential
That atomic purple shell is beautiful. I just ordered joy con shell replacements in the same color. I'm thinking about doing my Pro Controller next. I have a question, how are the screws that ExtremeRate sends? I read some reviews on Amazon, and some people seem to have difficulties getting the replacement screws to tread back in nicely. Your video didn't show any problems. Thanks for the guide.
Hello, I haven’t had any problems with the extremerate screws and I’ve used dozens across controller, joycons, back plates etc. All good for me. FAR better than the stock ones. I’d suggest if you take it slowly and use decent kit, you won’t have any issues at all. Hope that helps 👍🏻
Compared to the joycons? A walk in the park 😂 Seriosuly though, its not hard at all, few screws and a couple of ribbons. I’m doing another pro controller mod next week where i take it apart even more than just the shell and thats not too bad either. 👍🏻
I had a Question, I had a swtich pro controller, but i had a wired switch pro control, is posible to excange shells or maybe not?, ( the wired one is from Crash Bandicoot and i wonder if is posible the chance)
So if I had the PowerA controller and wanted that faceplate on my pro controller, would it be possible to swap or would it be more like switching all the internals from the pro to the PowerA?
Getting a pro controller and a pink shell for my girlfriend for her Christmas. Once she opens her present she's going to see a hot pink pro controller 😅
I followed every step to the letter but now some of the buttons in my controller don't work now. Home, Plus, Y, X, D-up, D-down, and the 4 triggers. The rest work fine.
Do you have any links to a matte black shell for the pro controller? I want to add some of my own decals to the controller and it wouldn’t look too well with the transparent black, and I can’t find any online.
I'm looking for a clear atomic purple for the pro controllers but I want a kit that also comes with the multi colored buttons too. Does anyone have a source for one that has that also?
I got the blue one and I'm having trouble getting the screws in? I'm using the ones that came with the shell but they're superrr tight and I really have to force them in
@@lovelorn88nick I figured it out. I just had to screw in the screws before putting it together. It took me an hour to do it, but it was b/c I wanted to make sure the screws went in easily before I put it back together.
The screws nintendo use in their controllers and Switch are so poor. Try putting an elastic band over it, or try a flat bladed screwdriver and dig the corner in and rotate.
Good video I’m attempting this tomorrow once my parts arrive :) already done my joycons so not worried about doing this... only disappointment with the video is you show the animal crossing colours on the pro controller in the thumbnail but it wasn’t that at all... click bait I guess, was a bit disappointed
Hi there. I did have the purple case in the thumbnail when I released the video but didn’t look any different and viewers couldn’t tell what the video was trying to portray !! Hence why I put on “(or any other colour)” and made it clear I was changing the controller skin by using a more colourful version. Hope that clears it up.
Thank you for explaining :) I will be attempting mine shortly, just waiting on the parts to arrive from Amazon - I’ve already done my joycons following your video on that without removing all the ribbon cables and it worked so well - thank you
DISCOUNT CODE. Please see the description on how to get a nice discount for any extreme rate product bought on their website.
I'm gonna say this video gave me the confidence i definetely shouldn't have. I'll break it with confidence heh
Ha ha. Just take it slow. You’ll be fine 👍🏻

Glad it helped 👍🏻

You're the man dude! You a Zelda fan? You make very good, quality videos! Keep up the good work!
I love Zelda. Remember getting LTTP as a kid. Hooked ever since 👍🏻
@@CTAtechdesk I got into zelda by playing occorina of time. Zelda is the best!

Appreciate it. It’s a pretty easy one all in all.
definitely saving this one since I'm planning to get the NES styled shell to match my switch console switch joycons and the faceplate on the dock

followed your instructions step by step no issues thanks for the vid. im really liking this shell
Worked perfectly. Nice tutorial thank you. I used the screwdrivers from my Ifixit kit for the swap. The new SNES Shell looks amazing.
10/10 guide
Love my new white pro controller
Thank you, this was super helpful. I’m happy we were able to customize my whole families controllers 😁

I do, it’s this one. it’s the LED kit but it’s the same principle : ua-cam.com/video/rXTCWTkVNrA/v-deo.html

Thanks for this great video 😊
But is there a way to change the color that is displayed on the nintendo switch as well?
This should have WAY more likes. Thanks.

Found the channel recently. Just wanted to say I love the content.
Thank you. Appreciate the comment 👍🏻
What type of screwdriver do you use for the tiny screws? Ive tried my 2.0 mm one but its still too thick and the screws wont move at all.
Maybe a dumb question, but can I use the screws from the pro controller? I’m planning on buying a shell that’s not from extreme rate
I’m not sure if it’s not the one I used in the video. the ER ones you can.
@@CTAtechdesk nvm, they were extremerate
I love the video I made my pro controller pokemon themed but you forgot the cover for the a b x y buttons
He placed the cover later, he was just pressing the buttons so they fit in perfectly
I did this and now none of my face buttons have any input, the analong sticks work, the right bumper is now the pause button and the home button is now ZR, Any help?
Great content again. Thanks. Question. Why did you use the screws provided by extremerate and not the original screws. Just wondering.
Thanks 👍🏻 The screws in this (and appears all Nintendo switch stuff) are so poor the extremerate ones are much better quality.
Was going so well till I found out my screwdriver was too thick to get down into those hidden ones! 😂🤦🏼♂️ Great guide by the way!
Ah! Getting a new one to use ?
1 question all of the screws are NOT the same size, correct?
Can you make a similar video for PowerA controllers?
I would but I’ve never found replacement shells for any powera controllers

Would these work with a PowerA controller (Advanced Gaming Buttons)?
Mainly just a Front and Backplate
No, this is only for the pro controller sadly.

does it work on the PowerA controller ?

So I got the great wave painting one and new shells
How do i get the tiny center wire back in place somehow slipped while trying to put it back together
Im having difficulty removing the front shell, any ideas?

Great video
If I want to change both the shell AND buttons, which one shall I do first?
Easier to do both at the same time. the buttons are more complicated so makes sense to do that first if you have too. 👍🏻
Do you know of any atomic purple buttons for the pro controller? Or silver. I can’t find any
I’ll have a look around see if I can find any. 👍🏻
Shoulda went with the nes design to match the console butttt the atomic purple on an controller reminds me of the N64 soo it was a good choice
I know! I wish I had too.
And the GBC
Is this sir moose?!?!
I got the blue one and I'm having trouble getting the screws in? I'm using the ones that came with the shell but they're superrr tight and I really have to force them in
Late late response BUT I believe the plastic actually isnt threaded, so your basically forced to 'screw' it into the new plastic
