Some mothers become single parents when doing everything in the right order. Some men abdicate their role of co parenting by leaving the home. And do not assume this is the black man who leaves his wife and kids. Many white men act the same way. I am one of those educated, married, women who were left to raise the children alone. With no child support, I might add. And then castigated by the Religious Right for 1) the failure of the marriage,2) the poverty that inevitability ensued. If I hear " You have a spirit of poverty," again, I'm going to throw something. This is why I believe that if we want to greatly reduce abortion rates, make it unnecessary, buy supporting a single woman in every way until she can stand on her own two feet. My five children and I had to rely on Public Assisrance for a few years until the youngest two of the five started school. Childcare was way out of the question financially. Meanwhile , our illustrious conservative Pesident, Ronald Reagan, called me and women like me "Welfare Queens." As did the conservative Christian community. So there is that. This issue is far more complicated than these reports indicate. Just saying for your consideration.

      @patrickc3419 Рік тому

Biblically speaking, the goal is not to reduce abortion. It is to abolish abortion, with reclassification into the criminal code as felony murder, with arrest, conviction, and execution of anyone who is involved in performing one.

I wiirshipped for 14 years with a primarily conservative politically church fellowship. I knew of only two or three other progressive attendees. We all got along well, respected each other, and followed Jesus. Then the Tea Party ideology took off, Fox News viewing became fundamental to the faith, and anyone not embracing the Conservative viewpoints were seen as apostate at best. When it finally became necessary to reveal my political preference, I was seen as a traitor, a Marxist, someone to avoid. I sat with them weekly, and in small prayer circles. They were a tight club of Republicanism, and I was aware of that, but our common faith in Christ was more important to me. The commonality of our faith was not reciprocated as regards to fellowship with them. I have been going solo, loving the brethren firm a distance. And kudos to Kaitlin for reading Ezra Klein's book. Thanks again Holy Post for another excellent episode.

I really enjoyed the interview with Walter Kim! I agree--It's not too late to get this right. There's an opportunity here to change course. I think it means we acknowledge the harm done in the name of Christ (publicly confess and repent), then we articulate and live the good He wants us to do instead. Who wouldn't be attracted to a faithful witness (do justly, love mercy, walk humbly) filled with goodness, beauty, and truth? It's the ugly parts they (rightly) object to.

I left church long ago. I grew up in a pentecostal church. The things I was taught seem to be abandoned today. From the outside I think one of the biggest cancers in the evangelical churches is this idea that all you need is to 'repent' or ask Jesus to forgive their sins and be baptized and that deeds are not just not needed but a bad, even sinful thing.
Jesus called us to do deeds. In several places in scripture Jesus talks of specific deeds to be done and in others through parable. What we were not supposed to do is deeds for our glory.
If you want to fix evangelicalism, I'm not sure that's a good thing, you need to reintroduce the importance of doing the works Jesus taught his followers to do. Not giving money and assuming the church will take care of it but actual hands on work in the space Jesus called his people to.
Inviting Jesus in is supposed to change you. The Holy Spirit is supposed to work a transformation in your life so that you feel called to these deeds for God's glory. It's more than loving God, or fearing God. It's more than helping the poor. It's greater than writing a check. It's living a life of service in such a way that draws others to God through your lived example. Not one rhat pushes others away from God because you disagree with their life, identity, or politics.

So before the "Traditional Christian Values" crowd crows over this married mom story, they need equivalent studies on a bunch of different scenarios. Married moms who are in lesbian relationships, various forms of trans and non binary, in the marriage open or have poly elements. Then all of those studies need to not also show the same or better results for the non-traditional marriages. Also Skye's discussion regarding single women struggling economically ignores that they wouldn't be struggling economically if we had a functioning government that handled healthcare and higher education, instead of for profit parasites. I am also disappointed in Kaitlyn basically slut shaming women and blaming "the left" for women wanting to go it alone.

    • @patrickc3419

There is no such thing as a “lesbian marriage”, nor a sodomite marriage nor open marriage. There are people living in open sin, but not the marriages to which you speak.
Any pastor who supports such is not a pastor. They are an individual wearing a year round Halloween costume.
Government has no (NO) legal nor biblical role or jurisdiction in healthcare nor higher education. That role doesn’t exist. That isn’t political, that is factual.

I'm almost 60 years old and my close family members now have a partisan, rather than Christian identity. They chose to reject ongoing theological literacy for titillating media of all kinds. They seem to have "gone out from us because they never were part of us." I wonder how common this fact is: the cultural moment has been a decades-long fact of life for many in their personal associations, which while on speaking terms, are superficial. I dont think more talking with the other team can work. We rely on superficiality, inanity, banality and addiction.

The fellowship I've had in the body of Christ has been in groups that would be called evangelical (for about 35 years). But we've never used that word to describe ourselves. That's not because we were against the word but just because we used the word Christian instead.
Does it matter whether we use the word? Can't we maintain relationships and cooperation in the Church (big C) just because we're Christians? What's the benefit of keeping any other word, evangelical or otherwise?
Walter Kim was a great guest! But he mentioned that he didn't want to leave fellowship with churches that he's cooperated with historically (who are evangelical). Is fellowship with churches that are evangelical only open to folks who use the word? My backdrop here is that we didn't use the word even before the word became problematic.

    • @Justanotherconsumer

      The word is pretty vague.
I read a bit about the EKD (Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland) as part of a meditation on the perils of being a “Good German” (those that simply looked the other way during… Germany’s problem years) and in that context Evangelische meant little more than “not Catholic.”
Germany has a bit of a nasty history on sectarian violence. Ironically I learned about the Sack of Magdeburg from a fantasy novel in middle school. I’d assumed it was fictional from the context, but it was the first time I learned about Christians… not being nice to other Christians.

We are just going to skip over the number of men who only contribute financially to their households but almost nothing to the raising of their children. I am an elderly Black woman, who started off as I am an Independent in college. As a young adult I did not claim a political party. However, as life moved on I did not find a Republican candidate who had policy that promoted human flourishing of all. I said forget I am a Democrat and after 50 plus years to find such Republican candidate to even bother to investigate the views and policies of a Republican. Repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting to come out with a different conclusion is crazy. To say the Democrat have failed the Black race, with promise and not delivering. 1 it is a two party government. And 2 as I tell the younger people vote pick the lesser of 2 evils. That a saying the lesser of two eivls.

      @patrickc3419 Рік тому

While I don’t know, and none of us know, the context to which he was speaking (it may not have even been political!), CH Spurgeon once said “Of two evils, choose neither”.
With that being said, yes, both of the main political parties are wrong, but it is inaccurate to say they they are EQUALLY wrong.
I am not a registered Republican, nor to do bear any illusions that Trump is saved, nor were individuals such as Bush, McCain, or Reagan. Clarifying that; It is not possible for a genuine, born again follower of Christ Jesus to support nor vote Democrat, in such by doing so, you are affirming what the official party platform stands for: abortion of unborn children, the sodomite movement, socialism, lawlessness, and government run schools. There really hasn’t been “factions” (conservatives, moderates, liberals) within both parties since perhaps the late 1990s.
In local, state, and federal elections, be it for legislative or executive positions, you’re not voting for a pastor. You are voting for the person who will support and legislate for values that align with scripture.

@@patrickc3419 sorry if you ARE ANYONE READING MY COMMENT thought I was saying that both parties are equally wrong. I have never thought that I was answering to the the thought or what is said to Blacks; why do blacks vote for Democrats because they have not followed through on their promises to Black. I say if that is so, the Democrats policies are closer to those that benefit common Man. Jesus said Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto God that which is God's. Paul said
Paul's injunction in Romans 13:1-“Let everyone submit to the governing authorities, since there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are instituted by God”. And since I'm not an anarchist and since many of my people gave up their life and blood for the vote. I will always recommend voting and choose the one that is best for you and society as a whole. And that for my race since the 1950's is the Democrat Party. And listening to my parents probably further back than that. My mother would always say and she came from Kentucky. The Republicans were the party of the handouts. I know that is probably hard for people of these times to believe. She was born in 1921. And the Democrats gave you an opportunity to try to make a life for yourself. You know one gave you the fish and the other one caught you how to fish. This is what I was told back in the fifties. But I was going to grow up and be an independent. And I had to learn the wisdom of my parents. Also there is another part of your comment that you misunderstood what I was trying to say. And grandchildren to go to Lutheran elementary school. There have been a few good charter schools. I want an equal opportunity for all students. And not just a few. And once something is financially based, It becomes corrupt. I am a or was a substitute teacher. Yea, I suspect this plays a big role. Money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure helps in stabilizing mood and staving off despair. Unclear if this is helped or hurt by the econmic gap (I think a little of both). But there are probably plenty of other factors too. They note in the article that these patterns existed before COVID too (and were flipped as recently as the early 2000s for the childless/with children stats). We also know the pandemic also exacerbated the epidemic of loneliness, which is also measurable. Companionship would, naturally, ease the burden of isolation and disconnection (and make it worse in other ways haha). And busy-ness can help distract from some of those feelings, even while it increases stress (as mentioned in the segment).
Still, interesting findings. Not sure how to use it, though. The journey to marry and have kids, especially in a contemporary American Christian context, is a personal decision that still nevertheless feels driven by a whole lot of other external factors.

Kaitlyn being all like, “its so surprising that there are so many Christians in Rwanda, after our Christian colonising forefathers helped colonise the country.” That is a liberal mindset. Believing that the current state of affairs must will alway be because of centuries old oppression, regardless of anything that may have happened since.

Why is simply describing reality as "liberal"?

So you're saying there's no current negative impacts on Rwanda because of European colonization?
And your choice of calling them "my" forefathers - isn't that really part of the woke left ideology...🤔 So I'm assuming you must be someone who's woke left... according to the fascist stereotype...🙂

It's frankly really sad that those of us who were Republican Evangelicals for 50 years experience "liberal" name calling freakouts when we talk about anything real. The whole point of this broadcast is ppl putting their outrageporn talking points as their identity in politics ABOVE their identity in Christ.

@Greg Logan according to the article the extreme right sees anyone on the left as liberal ie wrong. I'm assuming they disagree with what's being said by Kaitlyn so instead of engaging In a discussion which would require a minimum of being open to potentially being wrong, it's a lot easier to label her a liberal because that gives me the option of just saying no, she's wrong, I don't have to change. But I'm just assuming which means asses you and me which means... more news of the butt :😀

1.) Proclaim the Gospel (the doctrines of grace), both the lost as well as to yourself and your family. Not the Gospel plus works, not the Gospel plus social justice, not the Gospel plus “yeah but”, not Billy Graham’s “just say the sinner’s prayer”!, not “preach the Gospel every day and when necessary use words”. These are unbiblical, and not the Gospel. These are false gospels, and a false doctrine(s).
2.) Stop emasculating men. There are biblical expectations of what a man of God, and what a woman of God looks like. This is not sexism but biblically ordained roles.
3.) Call out false teachers by name, but specifically why; (i.e. Copeland, Osteen, Hinn, Dollar with the prosperity gospel…Vischer, Chandler, Keller, Platt with wokeness and CRT…Meyer, White, Moore with “preaching” to men….Robertson and Shirer with claiming to “hear God’s audible voice”….anyone in the emergent church movement (Bell, McLaren, Campolo)
4.) Have daily family worship with a reliable Bible translation (ESV, Legacy, NASB, NKJ,), do catechisms, worship in music with doctrinally sound hymns. Memorize scripture.
5.) Build up a doctrinally sound personal family library that includes the Puritans, the periodicals Banner of Truth, Table Talk, Answers, & Expositor, and works by Spurgeon, Lloyd-Jones, Luther, Ryle, Tozer, Flavel, Owen, MacArthur, Sproul, Baucham, Washer, Lawson, Mbewe, Begg, & Ferguson. Buy a copy of the 1689 London Baptist Confession, or the Westminster Confession. Spurgeon once said “Visit many good books, but live in the Bible”.
6.) Apply the Gospel to everything: Public Policy, how you vote, what you expose your children to, what you expose yourself to, whom you yoke fellowship with.

If that is what you got out of what I shared, you are in some sad, sad spiritual shape, my friend.
1.) Tithing is not commanded in the Bible 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. 2 Corinthians 8:12.
2.) The purpose of the Gospel is not “justice” nor to eliminate poverty. Matthew 26:11. It is to proclaim the urgency of lost man to turn from living in sin, to Christ, the Imago Dei, repent and believe the Gospel.
Anything else are fruits of genuine salvation; nor a means to it.
