@Jesse Hutt ; Amen to that my friend, ‘06 Broome... the single best national I have ever attended, and like you, I have been to MANY ! I had a pic of RC coming around the hip jump at the top of the hill in the back, you could see the whites of his eyes as he was looking right at the camera !! As you well know, he clinched the title early that day, his last full season ! Long live the GOAT !
What an awesome human being this guy is, and I would like to put emphasis on human being, because there have been a few pros that thought they were a direct descendant of the man above. God bless RC4 !!

So imagine the year 1988. Ponca city amateur National. Jeremy McGrath, there racing big wheel 80’s or 125’s. Ricky Carmichael on 60’s and 80’s. James Stewart on 60’s. I was 8 years old hobbling around with a broken leg from wrecking at the local qualifiers for the Ponca National. Met Jeff Ward, Bob Hannah, Rodger DeCoster Talon Volland, some drunk guy with no shirt on and no teeth in his mouth! It was one hot miserable day but a day that I will never forget.

...was worried where that post was heading. Started to grip me like a bad romance novel. I was rooting for the guy with no shirt and no teeth....whats his backstory. Internet why am i watching vids of Ricky Carmichael that are 10 years old and how did i get down this rabbit hole today ? Why....that is all.

I remember just turning on the television one Saturday to see what was on and there was a motocross race playing that day. I never watched that before so I thought I'd give it a look. There was this guy in the race by the name of Ricky Carmichael. I became a fan that day.

Carmichael goat goat cheese baby!! He stepped his game up when needed period! Only windahm took him hands down two in a row outdoors on equal playing fields! James fastest man to ever throw a leg over no questions asked! Out of control fast yes later years proved dominance

Told all of my friends in Tennessee when he was racing his last amateur season, has he had been doing his entire career, that he would win his first year as a pro. A bunch of guys who didn't grow up racing motocross, but got into it in there 20's, but had been watching motocross and going to Atlanta supercross year after year when Rick Johnson was on top. They all didn't even know about Carmichael and his amateur career. But had heard about him, and were all saying aw no way man, after seeing him and his short stature and all. I said you guys do not have a clue. I had been watching them his entire young career. And I knew he was the best rider I had ever seen. And I raced from 1976 to 1981 and watched Bob Hannah, who is to this day still my favorite of all time. And my thoughts were exactly spot on, as he never lost an outdoor motocross from his first year until his last season. Carmichael is THE GREATEST OF AL TIME AND HIS RECORD IN MOTOCROSS WILL STILL STAND UNTIK THE END OF TIME . SUPERCROSS IS NOT MOTOCROSS, PERIOD.

Never seen another like em , the dude corner speed was other worldy . Sometimes I'd watch James in practice and think "Jesus, no way Ricky can run with bubba today , Ricky cant run that pace" . When ya make minor mistakes ? It shows just how fast your going to the eye, when your smooth , don't make alot of mistakes ? It looks effortless , ya almost look slow to an extent . Ricky would come out and lay 15 seconds on James and make it look like he's barley riding , meanwhile if ya look at bubba he appears to look as if ya couldn't go any faster on a motorcycle . It just shows /proves how special RC actually was

Agree. I liked the two stroke era way better and WAY more challenging SX tracks during the 2 stroke era. Tracks have changed for the heavier, less flickable 4 stroke bikes. Bubba said it the best when commenting on the high jump competition one year, he was right!

No Talent Bum! I could've taken him without any problem at all! I'd like to buy him for what he's actually worth, then sell him for what he thinks he's worth!
