Great videos! Can you tell me what you did with the newsprint image onto packing tape. Did you use pressure to transfer it to your collage?
TY.interesting
thanks
Hi there from Spain, Maestro! Been watching a few of your videos this afternoon. I find them greatly enjoyable and most inspiring. Thank you!
Thanks Marta, great to know your enjoying them all the way from Spain👍🏻
Tom, I've just come across your channel and I love all those super-quick transfer techniques. You mention the idea of adding a portrait over the top of a mixed media project (8:18 in the video). I would love to do this using one of my own photos, which I can print on a laser printer. Do you have a tutorial for this method? Or could you make one?! Thanks again for the great video!
Hi, cheers glad you enjoyed them. I haven’t done a video on that yet but I’ll do my best to get one done 😊🙌
Einfach mein Geschmack ! Tolle Ideen !bitte noch viel mehr davon 🙏👍🎨
Can I add these techniques to a canvas that has been painted with acrylic paint? I would like the effect to be very opaque! Thanks and love the short videos!
Supercool :)
Thanks 😁
muy bueno felicitaciones lástima q entiendo y los materiales ?y me queda sin saber lastima no tengo traductor 👏👏👏
Thank you 🙌
thanks for today Transfering is something i dont usally do this technique .
Happy to help Jean
What k8nd of paper do you work on and do you Wark on canvas and wood boards and which one gives you best results?
I'm wondering can I use glosy magazine??!!
Good content, good beard, count me in! I just subed.
Hahaha cheers man 🙌🙌
❤TFS
Cheers Kellie 🙌
What is the white medium that you're using? You call it "white acrylic scraping," I'm in Canada, and I don't have a glue what it is. Thank you, p.s. love your videos.
Thanks for watching. I’m pretty sure it’s white acrylic paint.
I know it is not a transfer, but I really like to print on tissue paper and use that for collage. It is just a pain in the but gluing the tissue paper to the printerpaper.
Can i use prints from an inkjet printer .. I'm interested to transfer bigger letters
Hi Ana, you can use an image from an ink jet printer if you use a gloss medium or mod podge. Hope this helps. 👍🏻
This must be diversion week or something. I just discovered and watched two of your videos.
I love this, you have my attention.
Welcome aboard! thanks for watching, great to know you enjoyed it!!
Did you use just a normal pencil?
I'm trying out these techniques - have you tried them with other types of paper other than newspaper? Just wondering if they would still work?
Yes it would work with printed images, it’s best from a photocopier but it should still work with an ink jet printer, I doubt it would work from a magazine though.
@@TomQuigleyArt Thank you, I have a laserjet printer and an inkjet so I can give both a go 🙂
Are you ever concerned about the cellotape yellowing with age? I've seen tons of old tape that yellows and gets brittle--- or do you think that a coat of the acrylic will seal it in?
Thanks for your comment. These are just sketchbook techniques, and not all techniques are created using archival materials. If you wanted to use this technique on a finished piece I would suggest using a gloss medium, varnish or resin to cover to stop the ageing process of the sellotape. Hope this helps.
@@TomQuigleyArt awesome, thanks!
Thanks for clearing that up.
Does the clear tape transfer only work on newspaper or would it work on printed out text?
Best using photocopies or newspaper, it’s the carbon print that works. Ink jet printer won’t work. Thanks for commenting 🙌
Hi, tried the newspaper on acryl
Didn’t work !!!! What do I do thats wrong? Must the acryl be wet with water
Looks so easy!
I do so want to do it! Great videos
Dry the acrylic first 👍🏻
What is brown paper call?
Gum strip
did you do this piece on canvas or paper?
I did it on paper Margaret , think it was 170gsm cartridge paper. 👍🏻
Can I create my collage on canvas?
Yes you can do, the canvas can add to the texture, experiment with primed and non primed canvas👍🏻
I like the videos.. it would be helpful to also list the names in the comments if you would. 😀
Is the Sellotape sticky? Looks like clear packing tape we use in the US. Interested in the transfer technique but neither of the clear sides in your demonstration appear to be sticky. Clear packing tape here is VERY sticky.
Hi Peter, one side is sticky, but rubbing the image with water helps rub the paper off. Clear packaging tape will most likely work.
@@TomQuigleyArt do you apply the newspaper on the sticky or non-sticky side? Thanks for taking newbie questions.
@@1SageUser you apply the sticky side to the newspaper, turn over and rub off the paper. No worries, let me know if your having any trouble
@Peter: it might depend on what brand of packing tape you get--I have several and not all have adhesive that is very sticky. I think some of the less adhesive packing tape we have might have come from Harbor Freight (if you have those stores near you) or Walmart. You might experiment with packing tape brands that are not Scotch, Scotch tapes have pretty good adhesives.
I enjoyed this but would prefer the work to not have bumps or ridges so I can draw an image over top
If you stretch the paper first you you will have smooth surface to work on.
POV: your art teacher told you to watch this
Omg yessss right now lmaoooo crazy
✋🏻
Love your username too xD
like rn lmfao
Bro stfu now lol
Acetone is tricky. We used trichlorethylene in the 60'70's...
Applied the newspaper or color magazine and swipe it on.. Forbidden product today. I still haven't found an equivalent.
Hi Lauren, yeah it is tricky, wish I could of tried using that. There is one transfer I’m yet to try, it’s on wax paper but haven’t been able to purchase it in the UK. Cheers for watching 👍🏻
@@TomQuigleyArt à real pleasure to have found you and your interesting techniques! We used trichlo to print from wall to wall in houses!! Lots of fun.
I'll try wax paper from. Amaz.com.they sell bees wax paper. Not silicone.
That's about all.
I’m not sure about for newspaper but for photocopied or laser printed transfers I have had decent results using oil of wintergreen. This was in a single layer or oil-based situation, haven’t tried with acrylic but I imagine there *might* be a way to clean the oil off after transferring to enable acrylic painting over top... also like acetone the oil of wintergreen is quite volatile and should be used in a well-ventilated setting and stored properly.
You seem to be a Doors fan.
Why didn't you list your materials used?
Sorry Nancy, I must of missed it off. Il put them on for you.
@@TomQuigleyArt Thank you :)
Thank you so so much. For the first time i se transfer with acrilic color. look so great wery interesting. I will create somthing today. You are wery energetick guy and when i woch you imidiatly i have a desire to create. You make it so easy and aprochebol withaut crazy exspencive materials. I'm sick and tierd of brend art!!! Art shold be freing not to give me a hedeick, not every countru especialy in Europe don't have acses to amazon. I don't wont to pay 80$ for shipping
I’m enjoying your videos Tom. Your video and tutorial style is nice and easy. If I may offer one piece of feedback it would be to pronounce Mod Podge correctly. As an art educator myself I feel it is our job to know the correct pronunciation of products. Mod podge is not modge podge 😬😉. Keep up the great work ✨💫
You should try to make your videos go over 10 min. as I think UA-cam pays more.
Hi Dave, it’s actually 8 min now, unless you want adverts in the middle. Majority of my videos are over 10min 👍🏻
Point of discussion? I would like to point of break off.
You talk to much and to fast. But your art is cool.
Tom, you can use eucalyptus oil instead of acetone, much healthier. Love your videos but you speak much too quickly! I realise you want to fit in as much as possible but you’re giving me a headache!!!
Haha sorry Stephanie, just trying to keep the video to a minimum, I maybe doing online lessons which are longer but there will be a subscription fee. Cheers for watching 🙌
Thanks!
No worries, thanks for watching 🙌
