- American actor Cary Grant was 62 and retired when his only child, Jennifer, was born. Over the course of their twenty-year relationship, Grant, a keen letter writer, penned many precious missives to his daughter, some of which she proudly showed to the wider world in the 2011 book Good Stuff, a fitting tribute to her late father. This one was written on the occasion of her eleventh birthday.
Watch Common read this wonderful letter at Letters Live at The Town Hall, New York last week.

If every father said similar words to their daughters they would soar in life.
What a beautiful letter. Almost immediately, it began raining on my face. To have a parent/caregiver who loves you so much. How wonderful.
His reading was spot-on. Mr. Grant would be proud.
Wow. That's just about the most touching letter I've ever heard. We all should be loved by our parents that much. Some people never get to feel that joy.
Being a parent means loving your child more than you have ever loved yourself.
My dad wrote me a "letter" much like this and put it in my high school graduation card, talking about how he felt watching me grow up and the things we used to play together. I'm tearing up now just thinking about it. I've never doubted his love toward me.
That's beautiful
Absolutely beautiful...
Well that was rather lovely!
He also recorded "A Christmas Lillaby" back when Jennifer was a baby. The song was cowritten by the great singer Peggy Lee. First time I heard it, I cried my eyes out. It reminded me so much of my daughter when she was small. My daughter was killed in a mass shooting in 2013 at age 24. I still cry when I hear this song. If it doesn't tug at your heart, I don't know what will.
I love this dude.
Sadly, this wasn't the kind of father I had, but dearly wish I'd had. Fantastic reading from Common.
Beautiful.
I can easily imagine Cary Grant's voice reading this letter.
Only one thing to say...
