Cutest couple you two ARE. And, so down-to-Earth, as well.
      Questions, I do have:
      1) That bus service from the local Aeroport (ADO) that you recommended sounds good, but how did you here about the bus service, and how often does it come to the ADO ticket booth?
      2) What about those of us who do NOT (Yes, I am one of the few people who do not yet own a smart-phone) own a smartphone? Can it all be done without one?

    • @TangerineTravels
      @TangerineTravels  5 років тому +4

As for ADO, it comes every 15-30 minutes I believe. Not sure exactly but we never have to wait too long for it when we arrive. As for your phone, I would imagine everything could be done without a smartphone but I’m not sure to what extent you use yours so that’s a bit hard to answer

It stinks that your friends got robbed, but to me this is just another reminder to use the safe in your hotel room. If you wouldn't leave a bunch of money in a suitcase in the US, don't do it in Mexico.

As a travel agent I always book transfers for my All-Inclusive Guest. I also have those guest get told by the long hall of vendors outside of customs that the company that they are using has gone out of business. Don't believe them because they want you business and will charge a lot more than what you originally paid on your trip. Always use someone that has sold travel there and listen to Tangerine Travels because they live there and see these things all the time.

We USUALLY adhere to this as well, however, when we visited Cancun a few years ago we gave one of the companies INSIDE the airport a chance and we were HEARTILY rewarded.
They came and picked us all up in a brand new a/c hotel van. They did pitch us but we just kept saying POLITELY no. They took us to see a couple of the units...which we DID NOT mind because we like real estate and the units WERE GORGEOUS! We just weren’t interested in buying them...we will eventually be going back though to stay at this resort because it was NICE!
Not only did we get to visit a BEAUTIFUL property, we received a free 5star breakfast, lunch and dinner w/a Traditional Mayan Show at the resort/hotel. We received free pool and spa privileges the entire day.
The ICING on the cake though were the FREE TICKETS to Chitzen Itza!
The trip provided FREE pickup and transportation on a brand new a/c tour bus WITH a guide for both Chitzen Itza and the trip in general AND w/FREE Breakfast AND lunch in a beautiful historical city I can’t remember the name of right now, lol, sorry!
      We couldn’t believe it!
Especially because we’d kept hearing that you’re SUPPOSED to ignore these WORKING/“COMMON” (🙄) people.
They weren’t rude, they weren’t pushy and at NO time did we feel pressured or unsafe. 🤷🏾‍♀️💙

We have been at 25 different resorts in Mexico (the Pacific and Mayan Riviera). We love the all-inclusives but we make time to travel to see the various sights: Akumal, Tulum, Chichen-Itza, Playa Del Carmen etc. We mostly travel after breakfast to about 4:00 pm. We use local buses & taxis. We have never had a problem because our behaviour is exactly the same as when we are back home: treat people with respect, be kind, never go looking for drugs, never get drunk in a public place etc. Tangerine Travels: Excellent tips!

I really wish someone warned me about this one before going to RM last March. First time in Mexico, and yep, we got talked into a free breakfast! We were told we would not have to buy anything and it would be an hour of our morning. Well! 3 hours later, we had to get pretty aggressive (not in my nature either!!) and say NO, and then endure the awkward ride back to our complex in the golf cart. They couldn't believe it when we were not willing to drop $35,000 for their preferred package! Know better, do better right?

I for one love the all inclusive. As a mom for 26 years and my youngest is now 6, I WANT to have food cooked for me lol. Although I never let them clean my room at an all inclusive, I make the beds and clean it myself. We do enjoy going off the resort and doing excursions and ofcourse Playa SHOPPING!! I enjoy it all. One year I took my kids to see the old Mexico and they felt very grateful for how we live back home, they no longer took their life for granted. It was a great education week lol. I love the Mayan the most but have been to a few other areas in Mexico!!

We have wanted to branch out and visit other areas of Mexico such as Oaxaca or Zihuatanejo and see the falls in Chiapas. Don't kid yourself, Mexico is much more dangerous than the United states. That's why there are all these tips on how to be safe. You don't need those in the states unless you're in the ghetto. Pretending like that is not the case does NOT make you a good person. There's a reason why the Mexican people are risking it all to illegally enter the US.

ATM should be safe, you can find them almost everywhere.
This is a tourisim area, everyone works with turisim, so you will be safe most of the time and come across honest people but like every other country, city where turisim is the main income one has to always be careful.

Always great helpful people willing to assist a gringo...but then...always someone too lazy to learn their guests language with an excuse. :) My wife is Mexican and speaks fluent English, French or German, better than my native lol. Mexicans may as a general be under educated, but to think them incapable of learning is a mistake. They do that all too quickly if given the opportunity. Great people if treated with respect.

You'll encounter more receptive waiters, bellhops, cleaning persons, that will help you more and give you much more useful advice. You don't have to tip a lot, but tip often, even at all-inclusive resorts. Waiters will love you and go the extra mile for you.

We arrived Nov 3rd, enjoyably haggled for 10 minutes at the airport; our Chevy Aveo from H Rental car agency started at $35 per day, don't give in to these prices, instead haggle in a friendly manner and make it clear that you will get quotes from 3 companies as we did. We ended up paying just $178 for 13 days or $13.69 per day, including the expensive mandatory insurance. We spent the first week staying an Airbnb in downtown Cancun amongst the locals and travelling daily, we had a blast. Yesterday we arrived at Vidanta for the week to take in the flipside of the Yucatan peninsula at a nice resort. We'll see how it goes. Finally, don't be afraid to rent a car if your a good aggressive but defensive driver with an excellent navigating co pilot, it's a blast in itself and affords you FREEDOM to roam.

We use to take the resort transportation, but now we use taxis from the airport. 2 reasons - #1, you don't have to do the drop-off of others, which can take a bit of time. #2, it is cheaper to take a taxi, than $40 a person to shuttle. We even taken a taxi from Cancun, to Playa and then fairy over to Cozumel. Never once, were we afraid or felt unsafe.

Most people that are interested in the Riviera Maya are not interested in Mexico, they are interested in a beach vacation place that is much cheaper than Hawaii. Mexico does have a lot to offer, but the people going to this particular part are not typically not looking for a cultural experience, so much as a place where they can escape whatever cold Midwestern, East Coast, or Canadian place where they are from.

UBER was available, but the government got them out to give taxi's preference. Unfortunately, people with UBER were getting the vehicles taken away and never got them back. Most of this happened in Merida, but got to the rest of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Great info Gus thanks. A lot. Going in 2 months. This helps. I was worried about my TMobile service. But looked it up and it still stays true. Also the sun tip is great idea.

Great tips as always! Particularly your tips on reducing plastic usage - so important to keep beautiful places like this pristine and not full of straws and other rubbish.

I like the fact that they invite people to really live the Mexican experience and advice people not to stay in the resort all the time. The best part of México Is outside, the streets, the food... By the way, i only use credit card, never cash, but i make sure to be present when they do the charge, never leave ur credit card alone.

Thanks for this video. I'm not the kind of traveler who goes to hot destinations, so it's great to have a look at these places without having to take time out of my fishing and hunting schedule!

If I have to worry about the taxi drivers ripping me off, or the food and drink making me sick, I’d rather stay onboard my mega cruise ship, sipping margaritas and enjoying the view. Cheers

Uber works on Cancun. However it does not work on government property. Like the the airport that’s because they want to charge more money for people who is coming for vacation. This happened to me this summer in Cancun. By the way Tolum is amazing!!

Hmmm… I’ve spent almost three months living in Oaxaca and thinking about going to Tulum for the last week of my trip before I head back to the States, but not sure if it’s worth the money and extra travel. Thoughts?

I'm so glad I got to get this far in my bingeing before we head to San Jose del Cabo next week! We are staying at an AI resort, but we will also be leaving the resort to see some sights on our own :). And after one of the videos I watched this morning, Jordan convinced me to try the mole there. I've had authentic mole twice already and I don't like it. But I know so many people that do so I will try it again while we're down there and off the beaten path. Thank you for your videos! Travel Safe :).

I agree with William Jeffery. Be aware of your surroundings is great advise. Also, as Michoacano I high suggest staying away from Michoacan or at least the hot lands (tierra caliente) right now. Cartel violence is way out of hand right now. There is an ongoing terf war.

We love Tulum, but it's not a place we would live long-term. It's very touristy and much more expensive than the rest of Mexico. Here are the videos we've made there: ua-cam.com/video/TB91PpGnu0c/v-deo.html

May be a dumb question...when going on excursions, is it best to leave your passport at your resort and carry a copy of it?

    • @raulgerardoc.1250
      @raulgerardoc.1250 4 роки тому +1

Just carry the basics, maybe just the ID or a copy of it. No passport or visa required.

LOL. "Don't come looking for stuff". I bought weed twice from two different sellers for cheap. Yes they try to sell at a high price but they are negotiable. First guy tried to sell me a quarter oz for $50 USD. I ended up getting it for $5 USD. Made the sunset walks on the beach so much more relaxing.
