I think the audio stands out for me almost as much as the jump in visual quality.... They really took their time with this one. I just hope the pace of the game is a little bit faster when we actually have the final version in our hands on April 23rd.
Originally it was supposed to be a Jean-Claude Van Damme game. which is why Cage (who uses some JCVD moves) is on the side of the cabinet. Also explains him becoming the sort of main character in the new timeline.
Man I remember playing this at the arcade when it first came out and never seeing anything like it. When MK2 came out it was ultra competitive and awe inspiring when someone knew the fatalities. Lord I miss the arcade days.
So my personal history with this game is interesting. I was 13 when Mortal Kombat came out. SF2 was still ascendant though I arrived at the party late because it took me a while to get used to joystick special move combinations. I remember that the main things me and my friends would talk about MK at the time was of course the Fatalities, finding reptile, and oddly enough the "Test your Might" minigame. I do remember playing it myself a couple of times in the arcade and felt that the controls unwieldly and made the game hard to play. TBH I wasn't a big fan of the original Mortal Kombat, though I fell in love with MK2 and MK3.. So fast forward a year later in 1993. The "outrage" over the violence of Mortal Kombat and MK2 in media circles is still going strong as well as warnings that parents shouldn't let thier children play these games. Both me and my mom had watched these news stories on our TV. Oddly enough I don't think my mom ever asked me about the game at all. So when Christmas comes around and as I'm opening presents I was a bit surprised to see that one of them was SNES Mortal Kombat. When I asked why she my dad got the game for me she said that it was a popular game that I could play with my friends. I then remember saying this" Mom, you do realize this is the game that's being labeled as a extremely violent video game that parents shouldn't let thier kids play right?" Her Response was this, "Yes I know but I also that your are more than grown up enough and I trust you to understand that violence shown in a video game is not real and shouldn't be done in real life. it's just a game. We have watched movies in the past that are much more violent and more bloody than this game and I never seen you try to stab , shoot, or decapitate someone. I don't need the news telling me what's good and not good for my children because they don't know my child." Needless to say, I have a lot of respect for my parents, my mother in particular. Me and my mom always had a up front relationship where we could talk about anything and had a way of making me feel like I wasn't a little kid and that I understood right from wrong, and that I could make my own decisions which I think helped me a lot going through adolescence. I also want to point out that we she tried to play it with me afterwards and she was a bit disappointed when she found out the SNES Mortal Kombat was censored. She didn't realize that when she bought it and thought it was going to be like the arcade version. I consoled her by telling her that she didn't know, I only had a SNES at the time anyways, and that it was the Thought that counts. So yeah my experiences with MK1 ended up being a family bonding experience. Not something you heard about in the news at the time believe me.
I've always been confused by the requirements for Reptile. I played the SNES version, and the only requirements were to get a Double Flawless and a Fatality on The Pit without losing a round. Never needed anything to fly past the moon to make it work.
You're also not allowed to block at all, ever, in the arcade version. They did think to stop the blocking check at "finish him" though, since Sonya's and (iirc) Scorpion's fatals require the use of the block button in their inputs.
One of my favourite games ever no doubt about it, I'll never forget the first time I saw it in the arcade in 1992. Me and my friends went crazy for it, we've never seen anything like it. The digitized graphics, the violence, the gameplay, the fact it was basically a mash-up of everything kids in the late 80's-early 90's liked (ninjas, terminator, Van Damme, martial arts movies, Big Trouble in Little China)....I got goosebumps just thinking about it, so many memories!
when I played this as a kid, I thought the things with the Fox masks were statues. Later on in life: "Oh shit, those are people!?!?" I actually agree with this Tsung being the best. He almost looks dead in this game, which I dig.
Wow. It's amazing how Mortal Kombat has evolved. MK1 was so basic in design but of course the blood and fatalities made parents, politicians and pastors clutch their pearls. And now here we are over two decades later enjoying the full circle moment with MK11. What a journey. Btw does anyone remember Pit Fighter? I think it also belonged to Midway. It was almost a grandparent of Mortal Kombat.
1st played MK at Aladdin's Castle in 1992 (Kano was my 1st ever) became instantly hooked & here i am 27 years later still playing MK 😂😂😂 Got MK11 on preorder & dying to get my hands back on it after the beta tease xD
I have and will always love Mortal Kombat. By far and away my favourite fighting game. The fact that I have been obsessed with MK 11 proves it to me I think. It was a nice video but I prefer you on your own Max.
I remember when MK was at the arcade section at my local roller rink. I have a lot of memories playing MK and MK2 on the SNES at my friends and cousins houses. I remember getting frustrated not being able to play well at all since I was coming from being used to Street Fighter II and its variations on the SNES. This makes me wish that they would remaster/port MK9 and MK Trilogy to the PS4.
Man, the fatality have been evolved.... To think we simply finished them with uppercuts MK, now we finished them with cool, *eye popping* experience we ever had in MK11.
I remember seeing KI at the arcade in the Esplanade Mall in New Orleans, I was playing some other game, and the KI intro started... I turned around and wondered what was making all that noise, walked over, threw in a few quarters, and was hooked.
I really hope we get a huge variety of different looks for Shang Tsung. Young Shang Tsung from the movies is going to be cool, but I also hope we get a costume that resembles the MK1/9 look(or at least white eyes? Unless his eyes glow green in gameplay when he uses his soul stuff) and the Deadly Alliance one, I am a big fan of the latter and I think it could look great today.
Im just saying(no need to confirm)... But the crew sounds like they combined Kalifornia medicinal club w/some great MK talk. 1. I'm jealous. 2. I love it. 3. Keep up the good work!
My favorite thing about MK 1 was putting an interesting spin on fighting games. It's not violent for violence's sake, but as an homage to Kung Fu movies. I don't know Ed Boon's involvement in recent games, but the bastard had great ideas back in the day.
The new Shang Tsung render in Mortal Kombat 11 makes him look less like a scary chaotic evil sorcerer, and more like your super cool grandpa who would release his three grandkids at the boardwalk with 30$ in quarters and take them out to eat at Red Lobster afterwards!
man, mortal kombat was my jam. i that for gameboy and snes. i even made a joke about the mk series reaching 11 to my friends. i never expected it would come true. xD
Mk was bigger than Fortnite is now back in the day. Comics, tv shows( live action and cartoon) action figures, movie, albums, even a live tour lol it was everywhere. I remember it well.
@Fwuffycodbunny There are bits of it that I like, of course. For some reason, the Konquest mode, despite being a glorified tutorial for each character, always appealed to me.

@@Gamesta100 I never did like Tekken that much...still don't. My friends and I used to call it "dial-a-combo". Very sluggish on response, super floaty physics, etc. The brain dynamics of combo vs combo breaker vs finisher level really sold me on KI.

Tekken controls do make some sense but notice how both games use semi-automatic blocking. I've never really cared for "Block" buttons in my fighting games. Steeb, you're right. At 27:00, he does indeed throw out 4 fireballs.
The audio in this game is _so compressed._ I'll never get tired of "ee yuh! ee yuh!" or the "oowwwwww" after a down+2 / uppercut.
I think the audio stands out for me almost as much as the jump in visual quality.... They really took their time with this one. I just hope the pace of the game is a little bit faster when we actually have the final version in our hands on April 23rd.
Ian Thorpe he's talking about the arcade games
My bad! I was wondering about the compression comment, but I said "fuck it". Lol
@@theendboss4849 And yes, the audio compression is pretty ridiculous in those earlier MK games. Lol
Gives the game a distinct atmosphere though. I love how MK1 sounds.
