1 Kings 3-5: Solomon ascends the throne, receives God's promise, and prepares to build the temple.

As King Solomon secures the throne, God meets him in a dream and offers him a gift of anything he wishes. Solomon asks God for wisdom, which God grants -- in addition to many of the other things Solomon could have wished for.
Solomon secures the kingdom and surrounds himself with great leaders and assistants.
News of his amazing wisdom travels far, and he continues the friendship with King Hiram of Tyre (who had been a great friend of David's) and prepares everything needed to begin the building of the Temple.
David had already given him the plans (which came from God) and made most of the business deals with Hiram.
Soon, everything is ready to begin building.
