Credit to the opponent for hanging in until all was lost. Even when clearly losing he was resourceful enough to set a couple traps in the last few moves. Excellent job by Eric navigating the end game. Great game between 2 fighters! This kid is one to keep an eye on.
When Naroditsky analyses a game he played OTB it generally goes for a full hour lengh and I'm pretty sure Eric would love to spend that much time talking about his positions, so yeah it's "brief" x)
7:35 Interestingly, according to the engine, b3 is actually the only move to preserve equality! After Nc3 Nxc3 bxc3, white has either Ne2 or Rd3, attacking the pawn and defusing the mating attack.
Speaking of funny lines, after b3 the engine gives Qxa4! as the best move anyway. Black wins the queen back after bxa4 Nc3+ Qxc3 bxc3. If White doesn't play Qxc3 but Ka1/Kc1/Kb2 instead, he loses material because amazingly, the queen is trapped after Bxe4.
Excellent commentary! Always impressed by your ability to recall for us your lines of thinking from during the game and the moves you considered but didn't make. Thanks!
I understand this is Eric Rosen post-game analysis and not Stockfish analysis, but it would be awesome to see your reaction to Stockfish’s evaluation at the end of the video.
The difference between Caruana and Carlsen is Caruana would spend so much energy calculating all these weird lines, when Carlsen would just move bishop f to e7, increasing piece activity and preparing a spot to castle. I didn’t know this was the correct/best move, and I’m not playing in a tournament so I’m not calculating lines, but it seems obvious. Like, if I was going to place a bet in Vegas on the best move there, it just seems obvious. Q move wasn’t bad. Just weird.
Since Magnus is an unparalleled endgame wizard, he has the luxury of making principled moves or even 2nd best moves earlier in the game. I have no idea how his mind really works, but it's like he imagines the game from end to beginning and only concerns himself with keeping up his endgame possibilities.
hey eric. just love listening to your commentary. and i binge watch your old videos just to enjoy good games of chess. i was just thinking at your 8:03 mark when you say queen moving to a3 what if instead of not taking your bishop he moved the pawn to a4 that pawn is protected by the b pawn and if you take the bishop he can take with queen. so like what happens in that kind of a situation. am i missing something else?
My "interpret-Erics-energy-level-in-the-start-of-the-video-combined-with-name-of-the-video"-radar predicted this as a disappointing draw. So glad my radar was off 😃 congrats!
Spent some time on this thought & I’m way too amateur to understand on my own. At 10:14 can some explain why take the room with the queen & not the pawn? Please explain as you would to a child 😜
I take it to mean "funny line" as a substitute for something more typical like "crazy line". Maybe he has a loved one who has suffered from mental illness and has a distaste for the word "crazy". Regardless, it's just an idiosyncrasy, and he clearly does find amusement in these possible lines.
Funny has multiple meanings. I think of "funny line" less in a "haha funny" way and more similar to its meaning in the phrase "funny feeling," meaning odd or different. The thing that all his "funny lines" have in common is that they are strange and tricky variations that have a result you might not expect at first glance. Seems like a reasonable use of the word to me.
Very instructive recap. Great play, imo, for the win. Finish strong, and do not forget…..you must be Born Again, says the Perfect chess master; Jesus Christ. Don’t even think about out maneuvering Him.
Nice game Eric- makes me want to play the Taimanov! , really enjoying these recaps. Gl the rest of the way. - Ben
it's like a reverse pin of shame

Eric: There's a funny line
*amy schumer joins the line*
"never mind, it's not funny anymore"

That mate trick was awesome
Since Abu Dhabi league, he starts the video with " I'm tired n I'll keep it brief" n then he goes on for 15-19 minutes 😅 Love this guy
When Naroditsky analyses a game he played OTB it generally goes for a full hour lengh and I'm pretty sure Eric would love to spend that much time talking about his positions, so yeah it's "brief" x)
I prefer him pacing himself so we at least get some of his coverage of each of the games.
He's always hungry as well
7:35 Interestingly, according to the engine, b3 is actually the only move to preserve equality! After Nc3 Nxc3 bxc3, white has either Ne2 or Rd3, attacking the pawn and defusing the mating attack.
Yeah, he saw Rd3 for another sequence but missed it there
Speaking of funny lines, after b3 the engine gives Qxa4! as the best move anyway. Black wins the queen back after bxa4 Nc3+ Qxc3 bxc3. If White doesn't play Qxc3 but Ka1/Kc1/Kb2 instead, he loses material because amazingly, the queen is trapped after Bxe4.

I really enjoyed this Recap
Goodluck Eric, i wish you the best
One of Eric’s under appreciated talents is figuring out what his opponent will play deep into the opening.
Eric is always so wholesome
He's the Bob Ross or Mr. Rogers of chess! And there's nothing wrong with that!!!
Nothing fake about eric. 10 minutes watching his mind work is the bomb.
I’m so not used to seeing Eric with a time advantage 😂
Very interesting hearing the post game analysis with Eric before the machine eval to see the moves that were missed. Thanks!
"There is a funny line" said Eric calmly
"And it was in this position on move 45 that opponent resigned the game"
Congratulations on the win, this was a tricky game. I very much enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them!
Eric in the thumbnail is staring into the depths of your soul
Congratulations on your second win, and thanks for the entertaining game.
I understand this is Eric Rosen post-game analysis and not Stockfish analysis, but it would be awesome to see your reaction to Stockfish’s evaluation at the end of the video.
I’ll do this for the next recap!
8:01 Rd3 targets the pawn and if the queen moves for the mate the pawn can be captured
People who are more calm are just entertaining to watch
Eric see funny line, eric happy
I am watching this game because I am playing Shubh on Monday in a local school tournament. He is now a Fide master and I am just a 1182 Fide
Ow yeah, 2 out of 4, letsgooooo Mr Rosen! More chances tomorrow, best of luck to you 👍
Happy for you Eric!!
Good luck IM Eric Rosen, keep up the good and hard work
Bb4 was an awesome try big respect 💯love these
Hi Eric! I am always wondering, how do you prepare for openings? Everytime I try it seems like it would take months to learn one single variation...
Good job Eric! Made me want to study Taimonov. Getting bored to always play English and Karo. Can't wait for your next game.
Wow, brilliant play for both. Would love your analysis with the engine.
eric you're at 999 stafford gambits now

Such a good time! I love seeing all that opening preparation work out
Ty Eric for your insight!

Could you maybe somehow hide the Pgn on the right :) Im always anxiously trying not to look at it as to not spoiler myself ^^
Wow you implemented that quickly! Thanks! ^^
An interesting idea: sync the video to your heartrate. When it goes up, you slow the video up, when it goes down you speed it up.
Very cool video! Keep it up.

For some reason Eric says Abu Dhabi ...like Yaba daba dooo
Im a simple man.
I See a lot of arrows in the thumbnail.
I click.
Lovely game! Congratulations!
Very tricky game!
I love how the opponent, even with his back against the wall, continued to throw haymakers.
Hi Eric. I see the game against Shirov in latvia scarred you. But on the plus side I expect you know the queen g3 line pretty well.
good luck , always good content , thank you
Such an awesome game
Hey Champ Where's round 3?
Congratulations 🥳
what if the king moves aside and he brings the rook to b1 to stop the mating idea
10:15 why don't you take the rook with your pawn E6 ?
Maybe Nb6, rook somewhere and then Nxd5, which improves white's position because the knight is more centralised.
(that happened anyway but queen trade makes it easier to play the endgame because of being up an exchange)
great video :)
No worries drink tea
congrats Eric "funny lines" rosen

Dude you are so smart
When is the next game
HAHAHAHA LOOK AT THESE FUNNY LINES I CANT STOP LAUGHING, ERIC IS A COMEDY GENIUS
Yeah!
❤️from🇮🇳🙏
Eric does not know what the word funny means. Sheltered life.

Eric has a dry sense of humor which is lost on many people.

First
You keep using that word, “funny.” I do not think it means what you think it means.
