Live action vs Animation | Are movies getting too REALISTIC?

Last year there were a number of films that received heavy criticism for being 'too' REALISTIC. Take Cats, Sonic the Hedgehog and John Favreau's The Lion King. With a gross of one and a half billion, the remake of The Lion King is the biggest animated film of all time. Does it mean that animated films will pursue this level of photo-realism from now on, and more importantly, will films lose their magic?
