Colonialism didn't end, it just adapted to new conditions. The Africans I listen to, when they speak of the end of classical colonialism in Africa, don't say that African societies gained independence. They say those societies gained "flag independence": they are independent in name only, and all they have to show for it is a new flag.

The only thing I disagree with is the misplaced focus on solar and wind energy as a solution for Africa's shortage of power. African nations must utilize to the hilt their hydropower, natural gas, and coal, and rapidly move to nuclear power. Solar and wind are a waste of time, energy, and resources. I personally campaigned against Desertec as a neocolonial scheme. It is already dead.

I like Prof. Kaboub's positive, helpful demeanor. Many economists are school in the Austrian or Chicago thinking that perpetuates the colonial system. Fadhel analyzes the challenge from the decolonizing perspective. The major roadblock is the African leaders who are in their positions because they bow to the colonial West. These leaders need to go. They perpetuate agreements like ECOWAS that provide the colonial West with continuing dominance over nations that need to be freed to grow their social and economic prosperity. Excellent interview, Jingjing!

Western powers go overseas, observe underdeveloped lands, and attribute the people's inability to racial differences. This mindset of Western dominance leads to the establishment of the "rules-based order" that Westerners talk about. The West believes that their way of life is the standard, but the truth is far from it. The conquered people are not in competition with the West nor do they desire to be. People in the global south have different philosophies of life and no desire to pursue materialistic riches or disrespect and exploit the earth as the West does. Their way of life has existed since the dawn of mankind. The earth is 4.5 billion years old, and the way the West treats the earth ultimately leads to its destruction and the potential extinction of humankind. Unfortunately, the West beast cannot change themselves and its superego will not allow it. Their mindset is to continually control everything and everybody, to put their nose in other people's business, to go into people's houses with a smile while hiding a dagger in their clothing. The West can't change their winning formula over others. But the Global South can protect themselves and their way of life.

And you think China's mindset will be different? I'm African American and Chinese offer no benefits to African Americans being in their neighborhoods. Chinese Americans mostly believe African descendants are inferior intellectual. We have protested them here in African communities. Until Africans change their mindset they will not see that you dont need China. Africans need excellent leaders who care about their people. Botswana is an excellent example.

No joining hands will happen anytime soon with North Africa. They do no consider themselves as Africans and they said it time and time again. Black africans that live in north Africa all have stories of being called slaves, monkeys....in 2022 or 2023 in Tunisia they literally went hunting for blacks, landlords put black tenants out, their belongings were lotted, there were bitten. Some military in north Africa in the last 3 years repeatedly took black africans torn their residency documents and abandoned them in the desert with nothing more than the clothing ,all nice things were taken away and they were left to die in the desert. Look for the recent history of Mali and Algeria..

Wow! This guy is really Smart. Hi provided the only viable strategy for African I have heard so far.
Let me endorse his approach with few more points.
    1) China is moving up the value chain, because it has to continue to provide its people with better life And escape the Middle-Income traps. This means China has to move its lower cost manufacturing outside China (anyone who works in these low cost companies could not has a life of developed world). Currently China is moving mostly to Eastern Asia. It could be Africa, especially the agriculture and clothing sectors.
    2) Africa as a continent has always been the biggest supporter of PRC since its founding. China trusts Africa. This is extremely important. Otherwise it would not move more advanced technology, like the manufacturing of Rare Earth Minerals, to Africa.
    3) Chinese people respect its ancestors the most as a Civilization, this is the core of Confucianism. And All humans came out of Africa. It is the duty and honor for all Human to rebuild our oldest Ancestor’s home! Chinese will be proud to contribute to that! (Chinese people are very sensitive to the Honor. We call it “The Face”)

It is the people of the African nations that need to "convince" their governments to do what is required for real development and for a just economic transition.
