A few years ago, he pulled in to his elementary school in Michigan with a semi truck and gave every kid in the school a brand new guitar. Kindergarten students got ukuleles. Magic.

Totally should react to California Sober with Billy and Willie Nelson. Billy is the premier bluegrass player in the world. One of the most sought after live performers.
He's had YEARS of very heavy drug abuse. His biological father died of a heroin OD when he was 2. His mom and step dad developed a monster meth addiction. Now, he and his family are all "California Sober" (just pot and shrooms)

Billy is top notch. He covers many genres, has insane songwriting skills, insane stage presence. Has jammed with some of the best musicians in the world. His shows are always sold out and he has a huge underground following. He's turned Bluegrass on it's head, but also plays everything from blues to metal fluently. Check out more. My Mom came from the Ozark Mountains and her favorite music was Bluegrass music and the love for it lives on in me. Thank you for being as adventurous as you are. Although the subject matter has changed somewhat from White Lightnin' to Methamphetamine. I somehow don't think she would approve!
The ole UA-cam algorithm put me onto Billy a couple years ago and I haven’t regretted one moment or one video since. Billy learned to play the guitar by his step-father and they often play together. Billy also plays a lot with Marcus King who is a beast himself. If you enjoyed this video I HIGHLY recommend Turmoil And Tinfoil (live).

BILLY STRINGS! He is one of the best musicians I have ever seen! He has done a lot for bluegrass music! He’s a pothead now but that’s all. Best since Ricky Skaggs! Check out Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder doing Country Boy! No auto tune. Just perfection!

I'm not a bluegrass, or even country fan, but I've got his album 'Home', and the whole band is excellent. The video for 'Watch it Fall' is definitely worth a watch.

I cant believe you just now are seeing this. It was out a LONG time ago. Apparently they were at a Party here and were on Mushrooms so they went down to this Basement to get away from all the loud drunk people. And the dude in the background with the green shirt was just some random dude who always showed up at every party and never wore shoes, not even really a friend of his.

Billy is one of the one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. I'd love to see a Billy Strings, Tyler Childers and Colter Wall line up one day. Yall should check out some more of his songs red daisy, turmoil and tin foil, and in the morning light.

Watch him at Red Rock. The band smokes! Billy has total control over the stage and the audience. IMHO, he and Stevie Ray Vaughn are on the same level in different genres - and I LOVE me some Stevie Ray.

Dude has played everywhere with everyone. I still am amazed everytime I watch this at how fast his fingers are moving.
The most impressive part of Billys playing to me is that he is flatpicking every note. Guitarists will know what that means, but basically he's not hammering on or pulling off the strings like you see 99% of guitarists do. Every note you hear he is actually picking/strumming a string to create. That is why everything he plays on guitar just sounds so crisp and intentional. This is very difficult to do, especially given the complexity and speed of his songs.
You hit the nail on the head. He's actually picking every single note. No hammer ons, pull offs, or ghost notes. Just straight up flat picking. Bluegrass has a lot of that technique going on. I think it's kind of a carryover from banjo picking, but I could be wrong. I'm a lifelong gigging guitarist/songwriter myself (mostly progressive metal/metal core) and Billy just has technique on another level. He has my utmost respect.

Having been to a Billy Strings concert it is absolutely something to be experienced. A great show filled with great music. A nonstop wall of sound for hours at turbo speed boost.

Billy is one of the guys really bringing bluegrass to a wider, younger audience. Incredibly good guitarist with a really unique voice. He's just as at-home in country, bluegrass, or rock.

Enough to Leave is a good one by Billy Strings along with turmoil and tinfoil. I’m personally partial to the ‘Our Vinyl Sessions’ version of turmoil and tinfoil but there is also an entertaining live version of that one out there.

T and T lets you feel the Turmoil of meth addiction through the instrumentation and the lyrics touch the soul of what a child of meth addicts can be forced to endure and bear witness to. I also love his performance of Cocaine Blues (a Johnny Cash tune) with Post Malone - talk about genre bending!
