Thanks for this Review. I'm a Fan from Germany and after your Videos I decided to buy one Habu STS 70mm as my First plane... And what should I say... First flight in Safe Mode as an absolute beginner and directly 5 perfect landings. Thank you very much for this advise for Beginners👍
I appreciate the quick and comprehensive response to my tape/glue question. Many RC “tubers” suck at responding. However, you exceed expectations!! Thanks!
You're welcome! I'm glad to help. One of the many reasons why I started this channel. I actually replied to your comment yesterday, but lost my connection and forgot to follow up with it last night - sorry!
The last couple of months I've watched a slew of RC youtube videos. Megan, your camera work is outstanding. The products are always centered and focused, no matter the lighting and weather conditions. Just wanted to leave a shoutout to 'the camera crew' for a job well done.
The passion this guy have for rc amazes me and straight up convinced me to go for this habu as my second plane (first jet). Cant wait to go and pick it up and fly this puppy! Huge respect for Brian and camera crew that not only brings very useful tips and trix to the table, but also makes it a ton of joy to watch. I salute you sir, Subscribed! Thank you.
Thanks to your and RC saylor,s review I bought this for my very first RC jet/aircraft not first jet but first aircraft. Maiden flight no landing gear hand launched on 3s with no problems and no scuffs on landing. Used the simulator for about a month before the maiden and I 100% know I couldn’t get away with the way I went about it with any other jet but your all’s guidance was crucial, thank you!!
I bought this one for my son (that time 10 years old). He was exercising before with drones. This plane was exactly the right one to start with planes. We had 2 serious crahes, but it was easy to fit. Using 2 component glues (e.g. UHU plus 5 min). We bought a much better recharge unit and a stabilizer and stronger accus. He is now nearly 12 and fliying expert mode. The only bad construction is the landing gear. On gras we had many problems with it and reorder spare parts several times. Even the nose gear boke out completely with the frame. But I can absolutly recommend this plane for beginners. And you'll have a lot of fun. Even here in Germany. 😊
Another great video. I will be watching the unboxing right after these comments. Late last night I asked your recommendation for a good first EDF jet for a pilot with some experience. This and the Habu SS were your recommendation. Thank you. At soon to be 65, this jet on 3S and 4S appears to be enough to satisfy my flying likes. So I’d have to lean towards this STS over the SS. Thank you for your quick reply last night. It was laaaate when I posted my question. You have always been incredible with your help. I know late last Summer I was bugging you a lot before I purchased my 2000mm Beaver. All that you and Megan are doing for the sport is greatly appreciated. You both are a true blessing. Looks like the Habu STS are in the future for me. God bless.
Came across this video 12 days ago, bought it, flew it today for first time. Been 26 years since I flew an rc plane. The 4S 4000mah is so much better, easier to get off the grass. Great videos very informative 👏
Hi Brian, I‘ld like to give you a huge compliment for your always top explaining and flight tutorials. I‘m not a native speaker in english but your articulation is so clear and not to fast it’s very good to understand and easy to follow you. I love to watch your videos and also a big like to your camera team. Roland from Germany
I'm not sure why I'm asking about the 6s I don't even have a plane yet I've watched all your videos even the tractor and insect ones your funny and your wife is very nice and pretty also but back to your videos and all the planes you review and build I can't make up my mind. Lol??? Keep them coming and hopefully I'll pull the ...trigger .. soon!! thanks for the time you and your wife put into this.

We're really glad to have you! Hope you stay tuned. Good luck!
Light on the wing! Holy cow! W/the mild wing sweep, "dogtooth" leading edge helping the stall characteristics (like on the Apprentice) & relatively thick airfoil, it makes a nice mellow jet.. I'd say it deserves a slotted flap upgrade, would make it a STOL jet kinda like a PC-24 or the straight wing Cessna Citations! Good stall characteristics + no percieved torque, no P-factor! So nice, while not being "too much" plane for beginners. Didn't see tip stall/ spin tendencies of swept wing/high aspect ratio(long skinny like Cub, Timber, etc) Bumper nose, lol! I might have to get one!
Maidened mine tonight. If u watch all the vids on the Habu everyone says how it may be a great or the best trainer and stuff. This thing is by far the easiest plane I’ve ever flown. I started on a CG Eaglet 50 a few years ago 😜. No comparison. ...Delta Ray for our little playground area. No comparison. Seriously. I got maybe 4 minutes, cause never had to slow it down. It is so friggin easy to fly. I will definitely teach my little girls to fly on this one. One flight and I’m already searching for Habu mods lol!! Nice call Brian!!
I'm glad you mentioned your Eaglet - My Dad had one and crashed it after accidentally turning off the Transmitter mid flight!!! This was an informative experience in my RC "upbringing" :) This plane is AWESOME, and a GREAT trainer!
@@BrianPhillipsRC My buddy and I rubber banded a smoke bomb thing I bought from Tower to the bott of the fuse. Late 80s probably. Was the size of stick of dynamite, i lit it, started the plane i could no longer see and was it absolutely brilliant for a few minutes! Then burned through the fuse and burned the rx. Watched it fly away! Lol
Thanks! We appreciate you using our links. I love the Petrinicic Bro's too! They're good stuff, no BS, and they share it the way it really goes...sometimes south - LOL ;)
Just got one, looking forward to flying this baby! Thanks Brian for your in-depth review, setup and flying fun for this plane and the hobby! BTW: The "between the sheets" banter between you and the wife are perfect. Few points to note for others: (1) Make sure the wing hard-points in the body for the wing screws is properly glued into place - mine were but other folks found this was a problem (missing glue - QC issue) and glued them back themselves. (2) You will need to trim the front wheel control horn back a bit to keep it from contacting the plastic housing that holds the servo or it will bind/catch and not work right. HH should use a shorter control horn or just trim it back at the factory. (3) The SMART battery will come without the auto discharge setting turned on - I always set mine to 48Hours (personal preference) to help keep the battery happy. I used the XBC1000 to do this but the new SMART chargers can also do this. (4) Other who fly this plane on grass field have noted grass debris getting sucked into the fan intake and causing real problems - check it often and keep it cleaned out if dirty. Happy flying! FWIW: Since it comes with the simulator, it would be a real good idea for new pilots to install it and practice a bit on the simulator with this plane BEFORE heading to the field for the first flight on this plane! This is my third plane in my stable (only one crash yet, minor fixes) and that is my plan. My planes: AeroScout S 1.1M RTF (relearned to fly on it), Conscendo Evolution 1.5M BNF and now the Habu STS RTF. I also have the DX6e radio.
We're glad you enjoy the banter. We try to keep it "otherwise clean", but we don't want to be so prudish that we can't sneak in a laugh from time to time. yes to your points ;) Point 4 - As I say, keep your tip clean - This also apply to your intake and exhaust...and thrust tubes - LOL Your plane progression is good. You're on the way to flying anything you want! Keep at it!!!
Very cool, thank you guys. I don't see any down trees from those storms, I was hoping you guys didn't get hit. I lost a few trees in our woods here in northern Indiana but no damage. We had two confirmed tornados just a few miles to our east.
We filmed BEFORE the storms. We lost some limbs, and a couple days without power...and one hay bale...GONE??? I have about one weekend worth of cleanup, but we fared much better than others. I drove to IL on Tuesday, and it was CRAZY to see the damage ALL the way into IL!!!
Oh!...Mr Brian Phillips... as I might have mentioned previously I'm pretty new to RC flying. and I've been having a blast with my first two planes. both trainer's.. flying has now become instinctive to me and the planes now do what I want them to do... but I'm ready for the next step.. having watched all your brill reviews on larger trainer's ..the choice for plane no3 is endless...you have convinced me to stick with horizon hobbies as a brand. all their gear seems to be the bizz... and I've fell in love with the Habu.. thank you so much for your great honest reviews .it really is appreciated... plane no 3 is going to be the Habu rtf . I reckon for what you get in the box is pure VMF... especially the included flight sim. .. kind regards Dave..😁👍
I'm very glad to hear Dave! This is a GREAT next step for you, given you're getting the hang of your first two trainers. When you've mastered this plane, you will have another notch in your belt! Good luck, and enjoy Dave!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian.. I've learnt so much from your brill videos. it's well and truly set me up for the road ahead.. also I noticed you mentioned NASCAR... I happen to be a UK short oval commentator... if ever you get to visit the UK please look us up and give us a visit trackside ect... kind regards Dave Lawday... "The Rolling Thunder Show". Thanks again...👍🏁
Am looking to buy this plane and just stumbled across your channel after typing in reviews. Just want to say excellent job. Most informative unboxing / review I have ever seen. Five thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍
I just love your videos. You are an excellent pilot and your wife is an excellent camera person. You do a great job with the whole experience. I like how you typically start with the flight and then show the build, along with important details about the planes and electronics etc. I was wondering about the fact that to get safe to respond while holding the plane upside down, you need to give 25% throttle first. I discovered that by accident recently when I couldn’t get safe to apparently work while going over the plane in my kitchen. Then after giving some throttle I saw that it started working. That was on a BNF I have. However it isn’t necessary to activate safe with the throttle on another plane I have that was using a remote that wasn’t with the plane when I bought it. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it? I have an Aeroscout that I crashed so I purchased another one, a BNF version so I could use the stock remote. I didn’t have to bench test it with the 25% throttle thing first. Safe was working when I took off.
"I was wondering about the fact that to get safe to respond while holding the plane upside down, you need to give 25% throttle first" - Firstly, this is not true. SAFE is on ALL the time that your SAFE Designation switch is in the SAFE position, while AS3X is only activated after you give 25% or more throttle. AS3X is stabilization, but SAFE operates off that same system. I hope this helps SOME. I don't mean to pick on your question, but rather to help you understand better how it's supposed to work. If you notice a deviation from this, you may have a problem. SAFE, on older planes defined LEVEL at power up (Upside-down plane would be qualified as the LEVEL position, and when you turn it on while flying along, the plane would try to find LEVEL)...this has changes since the early days of SAFE. NOW, the LEVEL is set at a different time (time of programming) and then will not initiate the whole plane until it's been brought within a few degrees of level (pitch and roll).
Im hooked on your reviews Brian! I love your passion. I'm brand new to RC Planes and your unbox, builds, and maidens are super fun to watch. I just got the Apprentice STS and the Habu is my next plane. Waiting for warmer weather in South Dakota! Thanks again!
Why are you waiting - don't you see me punish myself in the cold? LOL!!! We filmed out last video at or below zero ;) Releasing tomorrow at 10:00 AM - you can be the first!!! Thanks for being here - Welcome [to the addiction] Dave!!!
Wow, great and helpful informational video. I will be buying my Eflite Habu very soon and from the maiden flights to the step by step of unboxing is awesome 👌😎. I'm a new rookie and I look forward to following more videos until I become a more advanced pilot. Thanks 😊
Thanks for the great reply I do love it I bought the eachine mini p51 it flies great really menuverable. Thanks for the other links etc and if some people give me bs I don't care I will keep doing it. My wife now says she is a plane widow lol
The Habu STS (3S & 4S trainer) does if you add GPS option, which I don't recommend. This is the STS...the new 4S & 6S "Ev0" just has SAFE Select, so it's supports less options, since it would be a strange option for a more "advanced" RC pilot. I really suggest if you're having difficulty with orientation, get the sun BEHIND you...this is a HUGE part of the problem for most newer (and experienced) pilots. If you fly like I do, a lot of the time, you have to "wiggle" the plane to see what the orientation is, or just get lucky. This too, is another helpful trick. you can wiggle the lesser of dangerous controls...the ailerons or elevator...but just make sure you know for certain what your "out" will be BEFORE you try it. Remember - you can cut throttle and just slow the plane down to almost a crawl, if you need it with this plane. Keep at it, and you'll start to have a much easier time. This take TIME and some help from a good set of eyes, if you have this luxury. I had to by my eye-sight ;) LOL
this would be an awesome first jet because you can slow it down alot. does it use the same transmitter as the carbon cub so i can fly both? and whats the difference between the STS and the super sport? i think im gonna get the cub first and then this..all ive flown is the wltoys f949s lol
This is a great option, but I'd suggest the 50mm Habu since it's WAY cheaper and STILL has SAFE and AS3X, but also uses SMALLER CHEAPER lipos for a beginner. Habu bit.ly/3ci5eWD
I bought the NX8 last month and just bought the Habu STS PNP and all the stuff the RTR minus the Transmitter to get it going. About how long do you suggest a beginner stay in beginner mode? I know it's about your comfort level but I don't want to develop bad habits from staying in beginner mode to long.
SAFE will keep you from making massive mistakes, but if you're comfortable, I'd use it ONLY for help on landings, and when you wind yourself disoriented. Then you can make all the fun maneuvers, and just fly her how it feels good. I think the quicker you get OUT of SAFE, the better, but don't be afraid to use it when you want to have some piece of mind, or if it's really windy to help you get back to the ground. Don't let people try to rush you into doing it. It's 100% up to you. Now-a-days, you can have SAFE on almost any plane, so there's nothing stopping you from getting used to it, and taking FULL advantage of it's help. Good luck!
Hello Brian and Mrs Megan aka camera crew. Awesome build and flights. Would be great if it came bind and fly version. But it is what it is. I would like to see Mrs Megan at the sticks and fly with you. Well done guy and gal lol. As always. Keep flying you guys. Just having fun RC'n with friends and family members
I agree. I was super weirded out at Horizon's decision to offer a PNF on this plane...BUT...if they offered it BNF, there would be so much stuff included that really only makes sense in a RTF, if you ask me. I think they should just make a RTF, and a BNF with only an AR637TA. One of the interesting parts of working with Horizon Hobby is hearing their rationale for making some of these moves, and it's kinda crazy how tough it is to try to keep hobby enthusiasts happy. There's about 1000 different types of RC fanatics, and they do a pretty good job at keeping the masses at bay ;)
brilliant flight and assembly review brian love this plane. .flown the p51 the fu corsair.the xk 450 the xk 520 hope im ready .thanks loved the in depth step by step build .aswell
I'm glad I watched this again because I have struggled with getting mine going. I bought 2 esc and another gps binder Receiver. And still didn't work then before I smashed it into pieces I order another Receiver and I got it all working now. And another wing and cone because it got missed up in shipping. But I was just about to take it out and try to learn to fly. And have a 4s 3200mah and 4s 4000mah charged and ready to go. And u said something about registering with the fda so now I have to try and figure out how to do all that. It's so much to try and learn by yourself with no 1 to help. I try and watch videos as much as I can but it's easier for me to have someone show me and I've got no 1 to help me. So everything I've done so fare is just trying it. But I feel like I've not got much time left and I feel like just giving up on the learning how to fly. But if u have a video or know anyone that does on how to do the registration I just tried and they are wanting to know stuff I don't know what they are even asking. I set account up but I can't figure out how to go about registering your plane to get the number
Don't give up Ryan! The FAA is the bureaucracy... knowbeforeyoufly.org/home I hate this crap, but if you want to be totally above board, just look it over...do the minimum to keep out of trouble and pay the $5 fee, put the stupid sticker on the plane (As small as possible, and as hard to see as you can do - Screw these idiots!!!). I don't talk a lot about this, because I just get mad and start throwing things, but it is what it is....
I recently got the Carbon Cub S 2 and as a first time pilot it went better than I thought, no crashes or anything. My second flight ended early because of a paramotor landing in the same spot I was flying 👌
@@loganclark2887 At a field next to a school that wasn’t even a ball field lol, talked to the guy and he went back up for a loop to show the works in person since I’d been watching videos online. Really cool guy 👌
Took off and was in beginner mode the jet wouldn’t let me turn hard, “because of beginner mode” and boom flew right into a tree. Spent 4 hours trying to get it down repaired the damage. Thanks beginner mode! Time for round two! This time on intermediate! Trees in my area are spaced out just the same as Brian’s Phillips property in the video.
Oh no!!! That's a real bummer, but welcome to the RC experience - LOL ;) So glad you're learning from the issue. This is how you'll get where you want to be! Good luck The Real K.
I don't know what it would take, but I would highly recommend against it. If you are wanting to drop that kind of cash, I would recommend the 70mm F-16. You will probably spend less.
Sorry for the slow reply. Our internet was being soooooooooooooooooooo slow (33kbs) the other night, and I literally couldn't get this video to load ;( As for what I was saying you can USE the 3S or 4S lipos...and I was just talking about WHERE to put them. Just put them in the plane, as far forward as you can, and then RECHECK your CG if you go between big and small batteries. When you get them kinda figured out, MARK the spots in the battery area so you can slide them into the right spots, and you'll be able to very quickly switch between battery sizes....but this plans is SO forgiving on CG, you probably won't even notice if it's not right.
Just made my first couple of flights. But the last one wasn't so pretty. The front gear came off, including the ring that the gear/scoop cover screws into. The plastic ring that was pre glued in place from the factory. What type glue/adhesive do I re-glue that on with?
I would do Muclilage, OR CA, but BE CAREFULL...don't get adhesive in the collar where it spins around. @@BrianPhillipsRC I tried some CA (Purple Label) on some test pieces, and it ate part of the foam up. Tried some Zap canopy glue on a test pieces, and some CA Foam safe on some test pieces. As noted the purple ate some foam up, the zap and CA safe did ok. I also tested some clear Gorilla Glue, which I ended up using. Here's a fan suggestion: do a video on repair, glue options and how to. And, ya give me a shout out...lol!!
Hey Brian, I'm inclined to agree with you about getting the SS rather than the STS, but, I'm still curious on just how big of a 4s battery will fit in the STS. I have a couple 5000mah 4S batteries that I use in my EC1500 cargo plane. I'm really not planning to do much 6S flying with an SS, so thrust reverse is the biggest advantage for me. The SS Habus are back ordered till January, but, my local hobby shop has an STS in stock and it's the earlier version with the extra goodies in the box, the dongle and the trainer edition of Real Flight. It's temping to grab it due to the extra value, if my 5000mah 4S batteries would fit.
Heads up to people building this. I did a maiden and almost crashed because it wanted to loop evene in safe. Pay atyention when Brian plugs in the rudder and elevator in the tail section. He said it felt like the plug came out very easy. That was the problem. You really have to push hard on the connectors. I used one nail on each side and pushed hard. It went further inn.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I've had bad luck mate, i was screwing in the front wheel and stripped the screw and now i cant get it off so im going ot have to saw into the screw and remove it with a flat head. im afraid to use those same screws now but what choice do i have...
yes, if you can get the right type of connector or use and adapter, or cut off the IC3 factory installed, you'll be fine...but if you cut off the IC3, you might loose some telemetry. If you buy it as a RTF, it comes with 3S. 3S is sufficient for fun, and learning to fly. 4S kicks it up a notch, but it's not a huge difference. I'd HIGHLY recommend the spektrum batteries...they are REALLY GOOD, and they charge a premium price for them too, I realize, but you can own 1 pack to do the work of 3 cheapies - I know from experience being Mr. Cheapskate, himself ;)
Get one of these. They're expensive, but if you plan to stay in the hobby, you'll be making the purchase now, rather than later... G2 Chargers S2200 bit.ly/398ohO6 S1400 bit.ly/3rKYt3l G1 Chargers S2100 bit.ly/3ftGEyR S1100 bit.ly/3hE3rtv
More mAh CAN yield more flight time, but your flight times will always be a balancing act between the added weight of a larger pack and the additional capabilities that comes with the weight. EDF's do take a lot more power to keep flying, but the pilot sets the pace. You can make a plane fly 1/4 to 1/3 longer with good throttle management . Gotta play with it and see where you land (pun intended - LOL)
Probably not, but if you want to experiment, you'll probably have to replace the motor and ESC. I don't know what size for either, and would highly recommend against it. If you want to drop that kinda cash, just get the F-16 70mm or similar to get a better result.
Here's the BIZARRE trick...you must HOLD THE BIND BUTTON WHILE PLUGGING IT IN (So dumb, right?!?!?!) then the USB dongle will go into bind mode. This took me a bit to figure out. Then it's a matter of installing the ridiculous amount of software, only to need to download the applications, then finally, some years later, you will be able to fly using your "free" demo. It's a great demo, by the way, and being able to ding a REAL transmitter to the PC makes all the hassle (And there's a LOT) worth it. Also, the dongle will need to install windows drivers, and that takes a while + Internet connection too, FYI. I don't want you to wait for a video, caz I'm not going to make a video on the installation...WAY too many variables to share, and way too much "waiting around" and filling out forms with sensitive personal information. I MIGHT show a video of using it, thought some time. This is a COOL option to add into a RTF plane, but if you ask me, they ought to be including this in more planes ;)
Hi Brian First off the bat..... Cought a glimpse of the film crews HAND.... NICE NAILS..... she's getting daring perhaps a foot next?? Nice jet as normal good quality piloting... How about a HOOK AND A BUNGEE ON THE RUN WAY.... NOW THAT'S GOT TO BE A FIRST YOU 2 STAY WELL Brian
Thanks brian! She has graced the "other side" of the camera ;) This plane lands in such a short distance, but arrester cables would be really fun. Maybe we should do this...hummm
@@BrianPhillipsRC That would be awesome to see You could put the hook on a retractable rod so its not hanging down throughout the flight & take off Great idea other Brian 😁👍✌️
I don't know if you have any pull with Horizon but I purchased that exact same package but it didn't come with a instruction book for putting the plane together or one for the radio. No battery or charger and no Dongle with the RF simulator software !!!
I have to assume you ordered the wrong finish level, or the options changed from when this video was filmed. Can you call them up and ask. Their phone support is back up and running - THANK GOD!!!] Sorry for your issue, and I suspect they can help you get this resolved.
The package has changed since the original - it is stated in the Needed to Complete section. It no longer comes with battery and charger in the RTF version, this I think has to do with FAA compliance. Also, the included RF dongle was a time limited offering, and is no longer included.
If you get the RTF version you get everything you'll need, but if you get the PNF, it's a pretty in depth setup, just FYI. Also, for all the features, you'll need the crazy expensive Rx, but I'd put an AR637T OR an AR631...just my 2 cents
Thanks for this video dude! Out of the things I've flown i have not done jets. Naturally a f16 or a10 is eye candy but like you said I would turn it into a hanger queen due to the stress of landings. Looks like this is the best route to take getting into jets.
You got that right, ALTHOUGH, the A10 ( bit.ly/2P1i286 ) is a GREAT flying, and fairly "easy to land" jet ;) The F-16's are both pretty tough to land, in my experience, but both have GREAT landing gear ;) So much of this comes with experience and with a long, wide landing strip ;) - something we don't have - LOL!
@@BrianPhillipsRC your right it is the KV . becuase I see 6s jets with the same set up like 70mm edf with 70 amp , I find it strange that the habu cant take 6s . probably has to do with the blades . it has 10 and 6s planes has 12
I recent bought the habu sts and love it but want more batteries and was hoping to find a more cost effective battery. What in your opinion would be a good option?
You mean, cheaper than the SMART packs, or just a different size? Either way, I get it! First off, please keep in mind that the SMART packs do offer one very important point of telemetry data, which is PACK VOLTAGE to the provided SMART Tx (DXs, assuming you bought it as a RTF like most), so you might want to keep using SMART packs for the Habu for this reason alone, but if you can't tolerate the price, or lead times we're all loving so much right now, you can get any same cell count pack and similar capacity so long as the C Rating is at least 30 (pretty easy to get) and the Connector is an EC3 or IC3...anything else, you'll probably need to get an adapter to match up with your Habu. Here's the links for the companies we work with that sell lipos... Horizon Hobby bit.ly/38ZFade Tower Hobbies bit.ly/2XqHt45 Bitgo Hobby bit.ly/3kfe45L Hobbyking goo.gl/TynFdU Amazon amzn.to/2BGynZt Banggood bit.ly/3cEiP5d ...but I won't tell you anything more specifically. If I had to do it over, I'd be doing SMART packs. When I was first in the hobby, I was buying the cheapest, and it cost so much in form of bad batteries and down time, reduction in flight times, that I didn't even understand what I was missing until recently. I would suggest if you want longer flight times, stick with the Gen1 packs, for cost, and go with 3200mAh 3S (or 4s) 30C...but if you want cheaper PER PACK, you can do a 2200mAh 3S (or 4S) 30C Here's those links... 3200 3S bit.ly/3xcRWjb 3200 4S bit.ly/3rL7861 2200 3S bit.ly/3xl5IQJ 2200 4S bit.ly/3iiTjbI ...for cheaper batteries, Onyx are a good choice, but I'd stay away from the Eflite packs, unless you like being pissed off about crappy batteries. I've had more than one that came brand new and puffed.
You can run this plane on 3S or 4S. I show a couple sizes, but you can run it on a large variety of packs. If you get this as a RTF, you can just plan to fly it on 3S that it comes with. If you want best chance at success, I'd start on the 3S and then when you're feeling good with it, throw in the 4S. Give yourself a lot of room!!!
Well Brian, you may of been last to the table on this plane, but others weren't so detailed. If i purchase another jet...definitely through your channel. Awesome info as usual.... good job camera crew. 👏
Thank you Crazy Aces! Thank you for coming here when you decide ;) This plane is SOOO much fin, and super easy to fly. I could see this as a first or second plane for sure!!!
Hey Brian I was just curious when on take off is it best to not apply elevator up until it gets to speed .. ? Like does riding full elevator from Start of take off slow my acceleration actually making myself need more run way ? Smaller planes haven’t exposed my bad technique yet tell now . Thanks
Do not pull up on the elevator at all. Let the plane lift into the air... If you have SAFE ON, you will just need to apply full throttle, and the plane will take off, since there's some UP elevator mixed into the throttle. BUT, when dealing with more difficult to fly planes, the rule of thumb is to get flying...don't force it, or you'll stall on takeoff. This plane, however, will not be that hard - don't over think it ;) Just give her some power and you'll be set!!! Good luck Rory!
hi Brian, Rich again I bought one waiting for it but the only have an Ar620 receiver. Is there and easy way to forward program for safe once I buy the right receiver AR630
Here's how that works... AR620 doesn't have AS3X or SAFE AR630 DOES! You can setup that stuff on the AR630, but the AR620 will only allow for NO STABILIZATION (AS3X) and SAFE (Auto-Leveling) My quick notes on Rx'es... AR410 bit.ly/3z5hT75 - Simple 4 Channel Air Rx with limited telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE AR620 bit.ly/3z7WDO0 - Simple 6 Channel Air Rx with limited telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE AR6610T bit.ly/3z37ysk - More telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE AR630 bit.ly/3zpdgVR - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + INTERNAL Antenna AR631 bit.ly/3v0w3Fy - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + EXTERNAL Antenna AR637T bit.ly/3OlgIpB - AS3X & SAFE with FULL RANGE telemetry + EXTERNAL Diversity Antennas
Hi Brian,Horizon tells me that the AR 620 receiver will work on the Habu STS PNP version so due I just use a y harness for the rudder and front steering wheel
Can you please do a video where you set up any receiver and flight controller for this plane? I accidentally bought the one without the gear and it’s incredibly hard to set up.
If you bought it as a PNP, GET A DIFFERENT Rx - You probably want something like this... AR631 bprc.me/AR631 - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + EXTERNAL Antenna (or get another from down below) You'll have everything but the stupid LAS (landing aid sensor) which is not necessary or all that helpful. Then you can follow along virtually ANY plane we've done that's PNP. You are not wrong that it's hard to setup, since the stock offering Rx is just plain WEIRD. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With AS3X / SAFE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AR630 bprc.me/AR630 - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + INTERNAL Antenna AR631 bprc.me/AR631 - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + EXTERNAL Antenna AR637T bprc.me/AR637T - AS3X & SAFE with FULL RANGE telemetry + EXTERNAL Diversity Antennas AR8360T bprc.me/AR8360T - AS3X & SAFE with FULL RANGE telemetry + EXTERNAL Diversity Antennas ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Without AS3X / SAFE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AR410 bprc.me/AR410 - Simple 4 Channel Air Rx with limited telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE AR620 bprc.me/AR620 - Simple 6 Channel Air Rx with limited telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE AR6610T bprc.me/AR6610T - More telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE AR8020T bprc.me/AR8020T - FULL RANGE telemetry + EXTERNAL Diversity Antennas ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Would you say that the NX6/DX6 transmitters provide better reception/signal/range than the generic transmitters included in RTF packages such as Apprentice/Carbon Cub S2/Habu?
@@BrianPhillipsRC Now wait a second...I might bet that the radios xmitter is the very same and all run off same 6v source. I might have expected your answer to be same range but way more features and ergonomics..ie screen vs none etc. Concerning.....Brian, can you ask your "experienced" in house Spektrum contact to answer if the DX6e/DX6s has the very same ERP "effective radiation power)" at 2.4ghz as the bigger brother radios...Please. Im sure there is a max Milli-Watt power output as in any Wifi device...ie your phone, access point router, etc. But where do these transmitters fall in and compare in xmit power output to each other? Thanks
Sold my F-15 after one flight and bought this. Was so pissed that I had run a 4s 2200mAh 50c to 0% in 2½ minutes with a 75% throttle push... decided after I landed is dead that it was junk... Hopefully I can run my 4s 3200mAh packs from my June nite and get at least 5 minutes of flight time... Great video... as Always thank you for the "hole" information...
knowbeforeyoufly.org/home It's a huge joke of a government over-reach. Don't get too worried (yet)...You basically pay $5 for three years and put as small as humanly possible sticker with an id on the "outside" of your plane. I can't share this part on my videos since it's got MY UNIQUE ID, and people would be copying it like crazy. Now they added a "TRUST" test where you go through the AMA or another few providers (For free) and take this totally idiotic, stupid, useless test, and then you have to print and keep a copy with you (electronically or paper) and this whole TEST came about without ANY NOTIFICATION to me...even though they pulled it out of their butt ...they don't even keep record of who's taken it or not. It's a typical useless and meaningless exercise in futility to keep the AMA relevant. Don't be discouraged by this, one more unenforceable, idiotic government program. They're underfunded, and run by the FAA who's got bigger fish to fry. Just be nice to people watching, and if the cops show up, they'll want to watch you fly. If you're in question, fly at a flying club, then they'll have a bunch more rules you can "operate" under to keep the FAA out of your life. P.S. I don't talk about this on the channel much, since it basically makes me MAD AS HELL....and that's not a good look for someone trying to spread the joy of this amazing, wholesome, safe, family fun, experience. If you get any of these planes, they make some mention of it in each manual as you read the "compliance" section, like the FCC compliance, and UL Approvals, and all the rest of the useless government red-tape that just raises the cost of doing business here in the US, vs China - Thanks Fed ;) Hope this helps. Don't let these FOOLS stop you from living one second of your best life.
Thanks Brian! I appreciate the information. I tried this hobby about 10 years ago and crashed 2 Cessna "trainers". Really put me off the hobby because of the cost involved. This new SAFE set up has me interested again. I'll be watching more of your videos!!
Mine arrived with “dings” in the wings and tail, and just wouldn’t fly right. Anything under 3/4 throttle and it wanted to nose dive. But,...Horizon Hobby stepped up and is sending me a brand new one. What do you think about adding flaps and/or retracts to it. Too heavy? ...just to update..2 months after ordering,...the new Habu arrived, but the tx wasn’t zip-tied, so it bounced around during shipping destroying the wing. Somehow two separate orders went in for a replacement wing and they arrived a day apart. BOTH had serious damage to the ailerons. I don’t know what to do! The wing that had the major damage has the best ailerons, so I’m seriously thinking about cutting them off and using them on the newest wing. btw, the replacement wings didn’t have any decals or electronics. I have to take the servos, push rods, and horns off the old wing and install them in a wing with no decals. RTF...not!
I am picking this up, and I also plan on getting the A10 and Green P51D for when I get good enough. My plan is to get the BNF with a NX6 and a Smart Charger (or 2)
The manual recommends buying parts from Horizon Hobby - LOL ;) If you want to glue it, you can use just about whatever you want. Here's my short list...generic links and Horizon Hobby links listed... Kicker amzn.to/2CQf24D (this stuff makes the CA set in like 1 second. IF you're using CA, GET IT, I don't care if it were 3 times the cost, you NEED it.) CA Med amzn.to/2D0x18i (this kind MIGHT melt the foam, so stick to the FOAM safe, if you want to be 100% sure) CA Med Foam Safe amzn.to/2E2l29z CA Thin Foam Safe amzn.to/2COE6sw Mucilage bit.ly/3fdfzQp (this is my GO to for most foam to foam repairs, and attaching new wings and tails to planes. It's hard to find anywhere else, but you can see I have links to Horizon Hobby below...but SIMILAR) HH Stuff CA Foam Safe bit.ly/30UbDPL Kicker bit.ly/2PRd5Mm Like Mucilage bit.ly/30RNnh0 This is a great item to get at your local hobby shop if you need some more help, then maybe you can just order online. If your local hobby shop sucks, or it's too inconvenient, I can help you answer many of your questions buy going through my old videos and watching how I did mods and repairs. I try to show these from time to time for people new to the hobby.
oh yeah, any tape you've got lying around will work just fine. Glue it, then tape it together over the seam for a QUICK and dirty repair. If you need to reinforce the repair break spot, use toothpicks covered in CA or Mucilage like a staple, then glue the joint and stuff it together quick....get help if you can and cover the joint with tape, and you can basically fly within a few minutes to a few hours. If it's a REALLY bad break, you might want to go to a 5 minute or longer epoxy...but that's WAY more work and time. Also more messy, and stinky...but way stronger. Most of these bonds will be stronger than the foam itself, but they'll also be heavier, so keep an eye on your weight as you make repairs, and check and recheck CG if the repair is significant. Also, if you're holding together two BIG and/or Critical pieces, like half a wing, you can use BAMBOO SKEWERS like these amzn.to/3gfBu9r . Good luck! Happy repairs ;)
I have seen so many videos of this plane and I ordered the PNP version over a month ago. Horizon said that it was supposed to be delivered this month and now it says back ordered! I have really been looking forward to this plane but I guess I'll have to keep waiting. Anyway, love the video and can't wait until mine finally arrives. It will be my first edf jet and I feel confident being able to fly it after watching all these videos. Great video as usual Brian, look forward to the next one.
Just wanted to add update. After I made the initial comment my Habu arrived this afternoon while I was at work. Now I am really excited to get this set up and get her up in the air. I'm hoping to maiden it this weekend, weather permitting.
SEE!!!!! Gotta backorder with HH, they come through when you LEAST expect it ;) I'm so happy for you. I know the feeling of the plane waiting at home!!! Good luck!!!
Brian, What are the average charge times on the (spektrum 4000mah 3s 11.1v smart lipo battery) with included charger and the (4000mAh 4S 14.8V Smart LiPo Battery 30C, IC3) with recommended charger.... from a full flight on the transmitter showing 1 flashing green bar? This is concerning the Horizon Hobby - Habu STS 70mm. Sorry I had to ask this I could not find an answer from research and by the way I love the videos and your style of giving reviews. Thank u in advance for your help.
A long time, like an hour or so, but this is a guess. I almost NEVER use the S120 that came with it. I think that charger is only OKAY...but I did update the firmware on the two chargers I still have. My son likes them since they're so easy to use, but NOW that we have the G2 S2200 ( S2200 bit.ly/398ohO6 ) it is totally plug and it's charging...when it's done you put the pack away. Literally no effort! When and if you figure out you're gonna be in the hobby for a few years, please seriously consider something like this. It will make charging your lipos such a non-issue, you won't even think about it :)
mine cg is not wright. with the battery as far as it can go to the front its still nose heavy, i did the same trick 'little holes in wing and make them black' on the wings as in the video. but it seems that my cg is around 105mm, not 90 to 95. its a 3s lipo so i dont know what to do anymore.
So with a transmitter from a trainer like the Habu or Aeroscout, I can in the future use it to buy a BNF plane? What do I need to look for in a trainer transmitter to ensure I can reuse it for additional, more advanced planes? Seems like the initial investment in a good trainer would pay dividends in the long run if I can reuse the transmitter for cheaper BNF plays to progress to.
This is a loaded question. 1) If you plan to stay in the hobby a few years, buying an NX6 or NX8 will be a good "investment". 2) Using the RTF plane transmitters for other planes IS possible, but you will have some limitations. 3) Horizon Hobby, in their vast wisdom (LOL), made the Habu in RTF or PNF...if you get PNF, you will need more experience than the average new RC pilot...therefore, I'd still push people to the RTF, despite their transmitter preference ;) ...I'll answer your question...the one you didn't ask - YES, you should by the NX6 or NX8 if you love flying RC. Getting the RTF will get you some items you don't need, but they are good for backups, or a transmitter to use on you simulator on the PC. NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB (I'd get the NX8 - best value and will work for almost any BNF out and coming soon)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you for taking the time to answer my question! Really appreciate it. Having watched more of your videos I can see the benefit in a good stand some transmitter.
I don't know why you couldn't...just be careful to get it moving fast enough...sometimes you have to RUN with it, which means you'll run the risk of looking even more dorky than me - LOL!!!
Glad to consider, despite the odd looking gears/decals, it flies fast on 4S! I'm already considering getting my next aircraft for next Christmas (10 months away from now) and this Habu could be my first jet. I just don't have a great eyesight, but I'd try it. We have grass runways here and I'll trust you saying it can do it. Thanks for this other good quality video
You're welcome, and thank you for checking out the videos! This plane is great, the huge landing gear will help with grass for sure! I hope you'll enjoy it for Christmas 2021 ;)
Nice One good for beginners and great video you get into detail all the time. Looking forward to the MiG 29 I hope you review I preordered it and I think I’m going with the new spectrum receiver that you put into your 737.
Brian Phillips yea your telling me I put one in myAL37 and it took awhile to get it dialed in oscillated a lot on first flight and for some reason my flight modes weren’t working then I figured out that the as3x in function menu dose nothing for that RX only forward programming.
5003 s battery works great over 20 minutes a flight about half throttle. Bouncy on the landing though IDK if it's the weight of the battery or is it just me?
You started to talk about using a 3s 3200 or smaller than 4000 battery then the chargers finished, were you just going to say the battery has to be all the way forward in the tray?
Oh boy, I hate when I do this. I can't say for certain what exactly I was going to say. It's been some time since we filmed this video, so I'm not 100% sure. Very sorry!
Brian, when you flew the habu on 3s 4000, at what cg did you have. 70-105 is the window with 80mm recommendation. My tail falls to the ground. I need to go to 108 for it to sit flat. I’m using the smart 4000 3s and it’s all the way forward… any thoughts?
Hi Brian, I bought the Habu RTF. Really enjoy it. Question for you or maybe other owners. I have been experiencing radio brown outs while out guessing maybe 100-150 yards out with this kit. No response for about 5-10 seconds holding right stick and radio in air panicking....then all the sudden it comes back and makes turn. I didn’t think pcm radios would be susceptible to this? Very scary and has occurred multiple times. Have you experienced this? Also, habu was horribly factory trimmed. Put in EXP Mode, centered trims and adjusted surfaces flat with power on. Now switching to experience mode is seamless in air. Really concerned about drop outs. I’m assuming the DX6s has same output 2.4ghz pcm signal power as more expensive radios....or is this a cheapie rig? Internal Antennas look good though near all that noisey switching controller noise. Thoughts? Thanks, Paul Sacramento CA
I think you may be hitting the PANIC button. If you do, the plane will IGNORE your input while it "corrects". See if you can establish if this is in fact what's happening to you. If NOT, please get with Horizon Hobby. They need to help you get this resolved. I have NOT had this happen, and I wouldn't put up with it....to scary!!! That type of problem will end up in trouble, but I suspect HH will help you resolve the issue.
I don't know for sure if it's 100% compatible. I'm pretty sure you can bind it, but some features may not 100% work...like battery voltage feedback, etc.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks, it seemed like a possibility to fly it at least! Im afraid to buy one and find out i have to buy a new transmitter and all the stuff the RTF mode would come with.
I can't answer the question, since I'm confused what parts you're talking about. I think you're talking about the S150....Do you NEED the power supply...I guess not if you have the appropriator drum connector supplying the right voltage at the right current with the right polarity, then you could just use THAT ALTERNATIVE power supply. My understanding is that the power supply comes with the S150.
Would this be your FIRST plane? If so, you COULD do it, but it's not maybe the best choice, since it's pretty expensive for plane #1, and it's still and EDF (Electric Ducted Fan) which means it still has some more challenging tendencies that a prop powered plane might help you to avoid. That being said, you would be getting EVERYTHING you need to start, and you could move from this plane to another plane with some goodies to help you move on to your next plane, BUT I honestly think this might be a better second plane. Here's my short list of beginner planes, and their links for videos. Hope this helps Kevin! I Want to help you succeed, but I know sometimes the best way to find success is to work through some level of failure, BUT when you get into RC aviation, if you find complete failure, you will be done before you begin, in most cases...so this is why I suggest possibly the MINI-APPRENTICE or AEROSCOUT... Hey mate, just looking at purchasing my first plane in AUS. I’ve narrowed it down to the apprentice or the carbon cubs2 but have just seen thing and it has nearly overtaken the other two! Do you think it’s a good safe choice??
There's like 5 degrees down, so yeah "NO" down for sure...it's kinda crazy, but it does work if you have the room ;) This keeps pilots in a good glide slope, even if they press the stick all the way down.
I have a question about EDF’s, I have this one and I’m wondering if I should go for more mAh (4000 mah 4s smart) or more C? right now I have a 3200 4s 50c and I’m looking for a more power and a tad longer flight time. so I’m stuck between a 3200 4s 100c or a 4000 mah 4s (both smart batteries) thanks for any help
C rating has to do with HOW FAST you can discharge the pack, and nothing to do with the longevity of flight time. The mAh (milliamp-hours) speaks to how long the pack will last. Hope this helps!
So true!!
Thanks guys! She does awesome work!!!
I agree Megan does great 🔥👍✌️
You guys are an awsome team!
Thank you.
Thanks Barbs! Glad you're here with us - Welcome!!!
Congratulations John! Glad you had such good luck on your first RC Aircraft!
@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you Sir!
Very nice! You are one of our target audience!!! We LOVE to help get people BACK into the hobby! Welcome back to the addiction :)
Bought one Wednesday and have had it up twice. Awesome plane and is easy to fly. Highly recommend it even to beginners like me.
Couldn't agree more! Great plane! Mostly glad you got up twice - sounds like a young man's game ;)
Hi Brian, I‘ld like to give you a huge compliment for your always top explaining and flight tutorials.
I‘m not a native speaker in english but your articulation is so clear and not to fast it’s very good to understand and easy to follow you. I love to watch your videos and also a big like to your camera team.

I'm so glad you understand everything!!! Thanks for the kind words, and I hope to keep you coming back for more :)

This looks so good. Flown it in the sim and now want it in IRL. Such a good plane that accommodates all skill levels.
Totally true! She's a GREAT flying, solid plane!!!
I'm not sure why I'm asking about the 6s I don't even have a plane yet I've watched all your videos even the tractor and insect ones your funny and your wife is very nice and pretty also but back to your videos and all the planes you review and build I can't make up my mind. ...If you pick from this short list, you're going to be more likely to have success. Keep in mind, flying is going to be hard when you first start no matter what. That's one of the main things we try to do on this channel, help you get through the first steps.
I might have to get one!
yep, you can't get it to stall is you land it upside-down with the wind!!! (slight exaggeration)
This was an informative experience in my RC "upbringing" :)
This plane is AWESOME, and a GREAT trainer!
Lol
I ordered one using your link, you and the petrincic bros are the best resources on here. Keep it up!
We try to keep it "otherwise clean", but we don't want to be so prudish that we can't sneak in a laugh from time to time.
yes to your points ;)
Point 4 - As I say, keep your tip clean - This also apply to your intake and exhaust...and thrust tubes - LOL
Your plane progression is good. You're on the way to flying anything you want! Keep at it!!!
Hello
for the transport of the jet we just disassembled the wing each time? Thanks
I don't ever take it apart, but I also don't transport it. Some might need too, but not a huge plane either...sits pretty short.
Thanks for the video on this jet. What was the mAh on the 4S you used? Any idea what would be max mAh would be on this plane?
I honestly can't remember, but I know I say it in the beginning of the video...I thought it was 4000mah ish, max.
*If you've not glued your plane together, you're not a RC pilot*
Sir, that makes me a WORLD CLASS PILOT!
LOL - Exactly!!!
Thanks for your advice on where to start
Absolutely! More advice here if you need it ;)
Good luck Shane! You CAN DO IT!
Does someone know how to connect the transmitter with the plane?
I learned how to fly with the Aeroscout 1.1m, and I got confident with Realflight 9. Nice work again sir!
Awesome!!! Glad to hear!
Luvin your video work Camera Crew, like a batter in batter's box takin a 95 mph pitch and not flinching.
That's a cool and very flattering analogy - Thanks!!!
Am looking to buy this plane and just stumbled across your channel after typing in reviews. Just want to say excellent job. Most informative unboxing / review I have ever seen. Five thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍
Welcome aboard! So much more coming too - We literally have thousands of videos for you when you're ready ;)
BRIAN IS THE BEST TOP GUY TOP ADVICE FOR ALL OCCASIONS RC PLANE EXPERT BYE CHOICE MY WING MAN ANYTIME 😊
Thanks so much Lawrence! We really appreciate your kind words!
Thanks 😊
Glad it was helpful! You will LOVE this plane! Good luck Brian - keep coming back, and we'll help get you up to speed in no time ;)
Thanks for the great reply I do love it I bought the eachine mini p51 it flies great really menuverable. Thanks for the other links etc and if some people give me bs I don't care I will keep doing it. My wife now says she is a plane widow lol
LOL "Plane widow" - Love it!!! I have one of those too, only I have dragged her into this whole experience ;)
I also have my own disco karaoke business and she is my tech support and roadie lol
Does it have a return to home function? Biggest problem with Hubu, since a long time, loosing visual on the plane. RTH is fantastic!
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks bro i will check ot out!
Thanks Kelvin! Glad we could help get your wings under you ;)
I'm glad I watched this again because I have struggled with getting mine going.

I hate this crap, but if you want to be totally above board, just look it over...do the minimum to keep out of trouble and pay the $5 fee, put the stupid sticker on the plane (As small as possible, and as hard to see as you can do - Screw these idiots!!!).
Cool way to get cut short!!! ;)
Where were you flying💀

Hey brian picked this up, I’m done for awhile. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! Thank you! Good luck Vince!

Got a 4s 5000 spectrum batt for my sts.U wonder how long it will last compared to my 5000 3s
Totally depends on how you fly it. I can't say.
Just got the plane and i got it put together thanks to u !
So glad we could help you out Riley!
What would you need to do to put 6s battery in the plane? Speed control?
I don't know what it would take, but I would highly recommend against it. If you are wanting to drop that kind of cash, I would recommend the 70mm F-16. You will probably spend less.
Please help mean Brian at 1:21:44 your were just about to say what to do with the 3s 3200mah battery then you got distracted I just got my habu jet
Sorry for the slow reply. Our internet was being soooooooooooooooooooo slow (33kbs) the other night, and I literally couldn't get this video to load ;(
As for what I was saying you can USE the 3S or 4S lipos...and I was just talking about WHERE to put them.

You might fit the 5000 4S in there, but she'll be a dog on that setup, FYI...she'll fly, but slooooooow.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for that perspective, keep up the awesome work.

Can you use other brands of LiPOs other than spektrum on this plane.
yes, if you can get the right type of connector or use and adapter, or cut off the IC3 factory installed, you'll be fine...but if you cut off the IC3, you might loose some telemetry.
Any tips on how to charge the battery faster? It takes hours wot charge with the cables provided.
Get one of these. They're expensive, but if you plan to stay in the hobby, you'll be making the purchase now, rather than later...

I was wondering if it would be better to run a 3s 5000mah or a for us 4,000 as far as flight time I'm guessing the 5000 3s would be better?
More mAh CAN yield more flight time, but your flight times will always be a balancing act between the added weight of a larger pack and the additional capabilities that comes with the weight.
EDF's do take a lot more power to keep flying, but the pilot sets the pace. You can make a plane fly 1/4 to 1/3 longer with good throttle management .
Gotta play with it and see where you land (pun intended - LOL)
Is it possible to make the HABU 6s powered? If so what all do I have to do and need to make it 6s powered? Wouldn't I just need a higher amp ESC?
Probably not, but if you want to experiment, you'll probably have to replace the motor and ESC. I don't know what size for either, and would highly recommend against it. If you want to drop that kinda cash, just get the F-16 70mm or similar to get a better result.
Could you show how to bind the controller to the usb dongle and setup real flight?
Hi Brian
First off the bat..... Cought a glimpse of the film crews HAND.... NICE NAILS..... she's getting daring perhaps a foot next?? Nice jet as normal good quality piloting... How about a HOOK AND A BUNGEE ON THE RUN WAY.... NOW THAT'S GOT TO BE A FIRST

This plane lands in such a short distance, but arrester cables would be really fun.
Their phone support is back up and running - THANK GOD!!!]
Sorry for your issue, and I suspect they can help you get this resolved.
The package has changed since the original - it is stated in the Needed to Complete section.
It no longer comes with battery and charger in the RTF version, this I think has to do with FAA compliance. Also, the included RF dongle was a time limited offering, and is no longer included.
Confirmed! This jet trainer is fabulous Brian!
So what I need in order to buy the plug n play version? What kind of receiver and transmitter plus battery and charger?
If you get the RTF version you get everything you'll need, but if you get the PNF, it's a pretty in depth setup, just FYI. Also, for all the features, you'll need the crazy expensive Rx, but I'd put an AR637T OR an AR631...just my 2 cents
Will i be able to fly the 90mm Viper after training with the Habu?
Probably. The Viper is not hard to fly, but it's BIG and EXPENSIVE!
Thanks for this video dude! Out of the things I've flown i have not done jets. Naturally a f16 or a10 is eye candy but like you said I would turn it into a hanger queen due to the stress of landings. Looks like this is the best route to take getting into jets.
You got that right, ALTHOUGH, the A10 ( bit.ly/2P1i286 ) is a GREAT flying, and fairly "easy to land" jet ;)
The F-16's are both pretty tough to land, in my experience, but both have GREAT landing gear ;)
So much of this comes with experience and with a long, wide landing strip ;) - something we don't have - LOL!
Thank you Brian for your guidence. I really appreciate it and you.
You're welcome! Glad you're here with us Bruce!
Quick question ! If I change the esc to 80amp could I run an 5s ?
Not 100% Sure. It's not just the ESC, it's the Kv of the motor. I can't say, since I'm not sure. Plus 5S is a strange size ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC your right it is the KV . becuase I see 6s jets with the same set up like 70mm edf with 70 amp , I find it strange that the habu cant take 6s . probably has to do with the blades . it has 10 and 6s planes has 12

Will there be overheating issues if I run five 4s packs in a row without rest for the STS?
I have no idea.
I recent bought the habu sts and love it but want more batteries and was hoping to find a more cost effective battery. What in your opinion would be a good option?
You mean, cheaper than the SMART packs, or just a different size?
Either way, I get it! First off, please keep in mind that the SMART packs do offer one very important point of telemetry data, which is PACK VOLTAGE to the provided SMART Tx (DXs, assuming you bought it as a RTF like most), so you might want to keep using SMART packs for the Habu for this reason alone, but if you can't tolerate the price, or lead times we're all loving so much right now, you can get any same cell count pack and similar capacity so long as the C Rating is at least 30 (pretty easy to get) and the Connector is an EC3 or IC3...anything else, you'll probably need to get an adapter to match up with your Habu.

...but I won't tell you anything more specifically. If I had to do it over, I'd be doing SMART packs. When I was first in the hobby, I was buying the cheapest, and it cost so much in form of bad batteries and down time, reduction in flight times, that I didn't even understand what I was missing until recently.
I would suggest if you want longer flight times, stick with the Gen1 packs, for cost, and go with 3200mAh 3S (or 4s) 30C...but if you want cheaper PER PACK, you can do a 2200mAh 3S (or 4S) 30C

...for cheaper batteries, Onyx are a good choice, but I'd stay away from the Eflite packs, unless you like being pissed off about crappy batteries. I've had more than one that came brand new and puffed.
Is the 4s the biggest battery you can put in that plane?
Thank you for coming here when you decide ;)
This plane is SOOO much fin, and super easy to fly. I could see this as a first or second plane for sure!!!
Hey Brian I was just curious when on take off is it best to not apply elevator up until it gets to speed .. ? Like does riding full elevator from
Start of take off slow my acceleration actually making myself need more run way ? Smaller planes haven’t exposed my bad technique yet tell now . Thanks
Do not pull up on the elevator at all. Let the plane lift into the air... If you have SAFE ON, you will just need to apply full throttle, and the plane will take off, since there's some UP elevator mixed into the throttle.
BUT, when dealing with more difficult to fly planes, the rule of thumb is to get flying...don't force it, or you'll stall on takeoff. This plane, however, will not be that hard - don't over think it ;) Just give her some power and you'll be set!!!
Good luck Rory!
hi Brian,
Rich again I bought one waiting for it but the only have an Ar620 receiver. Is there and easy way to forward program for safe once I buy the right receiver AR630
Here's how that works...
AR620 doesn't have AS3X or SAFE
AR630 DOES! You can setup that stuff on the AR630, but the AR620 will only allow for NO STABILIZATION (AS3X) and SAFE (Auto-Leveling)
My quick notes on Rx'es...
AR410 bit.ly/3z5hT75 - Simple 4 Channel Air Rx with limited telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE
AR620 bit.ly/3z7WDO0 - Simple 6 Channel Air Rx with limited telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE
AR6610T bit.ly/3z37ysk - More telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE
AR630 bit.ly/3zpdgVR - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + INTERNAL Antenna
AR631 bit.ly/3v0w3Fy - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + EXTERNAL Antenna
AR637T bit.ly/3OlgIpB - AS3X & SAFE with FULL RANGE telemetry + EXTERNAL Diversity Antennas

You probably want something like this... AR631 bprc.me/AR631 - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + EXTERNAL Antenna (or get another from down below)
You'll have everything but the stupid LAS (landing aid sensor) which is not necessary or all that helpful. Then you can follow along virtually ANY plane we've done that's PNP.
You are not wrong that it's hard to setup, since the stock offering Rx is just plain WEIRD.

Would you say that the NX6/DX6 transmitters provide better reception/signal/range than the generic transmitters included in RTF packages such as Apprentice/Carbon Cub S2/Habu?
YES, 100% sure they will
@@BrianPhillipsRC Now wait a second...I might bet that the radios xmitter is the very same and all run off same 6v source.
Sorry you had a bunk lip! Did they (Horizon Hobby) get you taken care of???
@@BrianPhillipsRC not sure I am following you.
Have you set it up with a different transmitter (like DX8)?
No, sorry Bryan. My son was flying it after I got done filming, so it was kinda nice to have it on the RTF transmitter.
You mentioned FAA license? What is that? What do you have to do to get one?
knowbeforeyoufly.org/home
It's a huge joke of a government over-reach.
If you get any of these planes, they make some mention of it in each manual as you read the "compliance" section, like the FCC compliance, and UL Approvals, and all the rest of the useless government red-tape that just raises the cost of doing business here in the US, vs China - Thanks Fed ;)
Hope this helps.
RTF...not!
I'm sorry this all happened to you Chris. Seems you've used up all the bad luck ;)
I am picking this up, and I also plan on getting the A10 and Green P51D for when I get good enough. My plan is to get the BNF with a NX6 and a Smart Charger (or 2)
NICE! Sounds like a GREAT plan!!!
The A10 is a wonderful plane too, but the "Green P-51" - not sure what plane this is???
Does the manual recommend a repair tape and glue type to repair this particular foam. If not, what do you recommend?
The manual recommends buying parts from Horizon Hobby - LOL ;)
If you want to glue it, you can use just about whatever you want. Here's my short list...generic links and Horizon Hobby links listed...
Kicker amzn.to/2CQf24D (this stuff makes the CA set in like 1 second. IF you're using CA, GET IT, I don't care if it were 3 times the cost, you NEED it.)
CA Med amzn.to/2D0x18i (this kind MIGHT melt the foam, so stick to the FOAM safe, if you want to be 100% sure)
CA Med Foam Safe amzn.to/2E2l29z
CA Thin Foam Safe amzn.to/2COE6sw
Mucilage bit.ly/3fdfzQp (this is my GO to for most foam to foam repairs, and attaching new wings and tails to planes. It's hard to find anywhere else, but you can see I have links to Horizon Hobby below...but SIMILAR)
HH Stuff
CA Foam Safe bit.ly/30UbDPL
Kicker bit.ly/2PRd5Mm
Like Mucilage bit.ly/30RNnh0
This is a great item to get at your local hobby shop if you need some more help, then maybe you can just order online.
Brian,
What are the average charge times on the (spektrum 4000mah 3s 11.1v smart lipo battery) with included charger and the (4000mAh 4S 14.8V Smart LiPo Battery 30C, IC3) with recommended charger.... from a full flight on the transmitter showing 1 flashing green bar?
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks again!
mine cg is not wright. with the battery as far as it can go to the front its still nose heavy, i did the same trick 'little holes in wing and make them black' on the wings as in the video.
but it seems that my cg is around 105mm, not 90 to 95. its a 3s lipo so i dont know what to do anymore.
3) Horizon Hobby, in their vast wisdom (LOL), made the Habu in RTF or PNF...if you get PNF, you will need more experience than the average new RC pilot...therefore, I'd still push people to the RTF, despite their transmitter preference ;)
...I'll answer your question...the one you didn't ask - YES, you should by the NX6 or NX8 if you love flying RC.
Can I handlaunch my HABU in beginner or intermediate mode? Seems like every time I hand launch it in expert mode I always can't get it in the air
I don't know why you couldn't...just be careful to get it moving fast enough...sometimes you have to RUN with it, which means you'll run the risk of looking even more dorky than me - LOL!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC lol yea. Also can I fly without a thrust tube. I lost mine and I'm dying to fly lol
Brian can you use a 4s 4000mah for the Habu sts.
Should work!
@@BrianPhillipsRC and thanks so much for your reply, you probably spend hours doing so
Can you bind it to your own Spektrum radio?
Yes, you sure can!
Nice One good for beginners and great video you get into detail all the time. Looking forward to the MiG 29 I hope you review I preordered it and I think I’m going with the new spectrum receiver that you put into your 737.
That Rx is a lot of work to setup, but it is so feature packed!!!
Brian Phillips yea your telling me I put one in myAL37 and it took awhile to get it dialed in oscillated a lot on first flight and for some reason my flight modes weren’t working then I figured out that the as3x in function menu dose nothing for that RX only forward programming.
I have a 5000 3s I just bought just wondering if it will carry it?
Probably would be fine. Get your CG worked out.
If you use a 3230B controller can you tell me what ports you use because im not sure if ive plugged my surfaces into the right ports!
Hey Brian, is it possible and a good idea to get the BNF version and bind to my DXeA transmitter that came with my Blade 230S V2?
I don't know for sure if it's 100% compatible. I'm pretty sure you can bind it, but some features may not 100% work...like battery voltage feedback, etc.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks, it seemed like a possibility to fly it at least! Im afraid to buy one and find out i have to buy a new transmitter and all the stuff the RTF mode would come with.
Hey Brain, quick question. Do you NEED the power supply for the chargers, or can you just get the outlet plug thing for it?
I can't answer the question, since I'm confused what parts you're talking about.
I think you're talking about the S150....Do you NEED the power supply...I guess not if you have the appropriator drum connector supplying the right voltage at the right current with the right polarity, then you could just use THAT ALTERNATIVE power supply. My understanding is that the power supply comes with the S150.
Hi I am waiting to get a RC plane do u think this would be a good one to get??..

When I purchased the Habu. It has no down in the beginner mode. I was just wondering why. The only time I have down is in the experienced mode.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I gotcha I’ll get the 4000 mah for my habu :) thanks for the help!
I fiberglassed the nose with two carbon rods. It helped with the CG, also I put retracts on it. I had a long runway with no trees for 50 yards.
good idea!
Thanks again for your unboxing it's just as good as your flying !
Thank you Johnny!
