Fantastic video Joe. This was definitely an experience. I still think this movie should be seen. With that being said, it was an honor to watch it with you.

I completely agree. It's a shame most people will never have the chance to see this. I'm glad we were able to watch it and have it in our collections. Thanks, buddy!

I have been waiting to see this since 1972. I was 10 when this was made and was a huge Jerry Lewis fan. This was at the height of Jerry’s ‘auteur’ phase, going on talk shows as the ‘great artist’ hated at home but loved abroad . I remember an article about him editing the movie (Playboy, Esquire maybe?) that painted him as ill-tempered, pretentious, and over his head. A few years ago a German documentary about the film was made and had amazing unseen footage that was in my opinion totally different from the atrocity I always heard it was. It made me wonder what film the mocking articles by Harry Shearer or Patton Oswalt were writing about. I am hoping in the next year or so it will see the light. My own opinion is Lewis didn’t want the film released because he knew the knives were all ready out to mock him no matter the quality or lack of quality the film had. The legend of its wretchedness was bigger than the movie itself. A great personal film or an act of misguided hubris? I hope after 50 years of waiting I can judge for myself.

Thanks so much for watching and commenting! It was great being able to read your thoughts on this. I will say, in my opinion of course, this film was not even close to being as bad as some have described it. In fact, I think there are signs of brilliance despite covering a taboo topic. I do hope we get an official release some day so that a wider audience can experience it. Thanks again!

The movie was never released because it was never finished. The Producer ran out of money and didn’t have the rights to film this project. He owed about $50,000 to the author of “The Day The Clown Cried” Joan Berry. Jerry Lewis supposedly put 2 million dollars of his own money for a film he had no rights to make. All that survives is a work print that Jerry Lewis kept for himself.

Well, CM Punk returned to WWE, weird things has happened, hell has frozen over, so maybe there is a chance someday that this movie would be released. And in all honesty, this movie does have a curiosity factor for me. But let me see what Jason has to say. Thank you.

Read all about it in the late 70s in an article in High Times written by someone who'd seen the leaked copy. It told the whole story and had numerous quotes from the film. Allegedly it is a very poorly made movie..
Check out Jerry with Johnny Depp in "Arizona Dream".. kinda bizarre but great...

So miss that outro music of yours. This movie sounds very powerful and I can see why jerry didn’t want to release this film. Well, I’m not sure myself if there’s other things why he didn’t want to explain but I do want to see how powerful this film would be for me. I was close to wondering what was the most controversial view of my choice cause I was expecting The Day After.
But this was a nice piece so I enjoy the review of the movie.

The worst film? I guess it's because it's a difficult watch. In the days they released Cannibal Holocaust on DVD at Suncoast 2 kids saw the DVD and one said to the other that Cannibal Holocaust is the worst movie ever made. I think he meant that it's a hard watch not that the movie is badly made. I have lots of documentaries about the Holocaust and kids got it as bad as grown-ups so I wouldn't call it controversial. Moreover twins were saved for some kind of experiments. But the ending you describe is so heartbreaking so sad I don't think I could watch it. Heck I always cry at the end of Schlinder's List when the Jews give the ring to Oscar!😭 But I think every film deserves to be seen not put in a vault and forgotten. Anyway good controversial view Joe!👉🙂👈

    • @TheHORRORman

Under 90 minutes. The final cut of the film has never been released (and likely never will), but we watched the most complete version ever made available (for an extremely limited time).

Thanks, glad to hear that it isn't the terrible , tasteless film many people claim it to be, I believe Jerry Lewis was before his time in 1972 and I can imagine that he has made a strong statement with the movie, maybe too strong and hard to watch, but that is Jerry Lewis - I hope one of his greatest admirers Martin Scorsese will do something regarding a release of the film, restoration, adding a music score, etc.... according to Library of Congress they will show the film in June of this year - the version Lewis gave them. Lewis personal feelings about the film has changed almost every time he mentioned it, and I remember in he 70's and 80's, and even in the 90's , that he said it was a film that had to be seen. The last couple of his changed all that, as we know.

I first heard of the movie when I read the book "The Golden Turkey Awards" in which they devoted an entire chapter on Unreleased films. I was about 20 or so when the book was released and was stunned that I never even HEARD of this movie. But either ways, the rumors was still rampant that Lewis was cutting the movie still and it would see the light of day. Of course we know that didn't happen. But for quite a while I've been wondering if the movie was actually BAD or was it simply a misfire. Maybe it was neither. But I have always hoped that somehow I will get to see this film in some form before having to go down the tunnel of light. At least now I know there is even a slim chance - but it's there. Am so jealous you got to see it. I guess I just didn't know the right people. Hehe. Oh well. Love the video.
