The actual GDP figures of China are much larger than the published figures. In the past two years, the exchange rate of the Chinese yuan against the US dollar has been depreciating, from 6.1 to 7.2, which is abnormal. In addition, there is a big data in China that is not included in GDP. The United States will convert all houses in the United States into rent and include it in US GDP every year, but China has not counted this. The number of houses in China is five times that of the United States. If all houses in China are converted into rent and included in GDP, China's GDP can instantly increase by trillions of dollars. As long as China appreciates the exchange rate to 6.1, its GDP converted into US dollars will also increase significantly. However, China has not done so. In order to achieve long-term development, China has given up the comparison of GDP

    • @timlin3944
      @timlin3944 Місяць тому

Wasn’t it because as a planned economy, China’s housing supply had outpaced natural progression and are 5 times the demand. As a prop for GDP while it was not converted to rent, the construction and maintenance of these so-call “ghost towns” actually inflates the GDP number and therefore make China’s economy larger than it really is?

    • @nezhanaohai
      @nezhanaohai Місяць тому +15

      我们不需要从外部购买任何工业品,汇率从6.1到7.2并不影响我们国内物价,并且国内因为竞争激烈,价格更便宜。所以7.2的汇率更有助于我们出口生意。可能进口能源和矿物会受影响,但我们是最大买家也有议价能力。所以我们并不在乎名义GDP什么时候超越美国,没有任何意义。

However, GDP per capita does not take into account wealth distribution in a country. If wealth is highly concentrated in the top few percent of the population, then the rest of the population may be suffering financially. This is clearly the case in the United States.
In China, quality of life is generally pretty good for everybody, despite having a much lower GDP per capita. The Chinese enjoy good and affordable health care. China has no homelessness. China has excellent infrastructure. China has very low crime making the country extremely safe. Inflation is very low and the cost of living is also very low (except perhaps for real estate in large cities).

And then you look at parameters outside of GDP :
Life expectancy in China has surpassed that in the U.S. (and this reflects everything from healthcare to nutrition to sanitation and living conditions)
Protein intake in China per capita also exceeded that in the U.S. beginning in 2021. Moreover, in China, this consists of a higher proportion of plant protein, which is healthier. This is a reflection of both absolute nutritional intake as well as nutritional quality.
One only needs to look at photos of open air markets and supermarkets in every town and city in China and compare them to those in the U.S. to realise that the abundance and choice of food in China also far surpasses what is available to US consumers.
Aggregate household savings in China is approximately US$ 20 TRILLION. In the U.S., the figure is US$ 800 BILLION. Even taking into account that the Chinese population of four times that of the U.S. and scaling up, this comes to only US$3.2 trillion or about one sixth.
Average living space per capita in the U.K. is 38 sq m. The figure for China is 42.5 sq m. which is comparable to that in France (43 sq m) and only just behind that in Germany (46 sq m) When you take into account that in the 1970’s, this figure for China was around 8.0 sq m, one concludes also that much of Chinese housing is also new.
U.S. is the outlier at close to 100 sq m - this is the one parameter that is much higher in the U.S. presumably due to all the MacMansions.
There is broad agreement that infrastructure in China far surpasses that in the U.S. from 5G connectivity to High Speed Rail to Subway systems and road networks.
Literacy in the US has also fallen behind China.
So looking at all the above, PER CAPITA living standards in China are hardly less than those in the U.S. even though GDP figures would imply that they are somewhere between one third and one quarter.

You can Google all the above : life expectancy, living space per capita (just insert the country after it), protein intake per capita etc. I generally choose Western sources simply to bypass the accusation that these are China’s falsified numbers.
I also keep a file of any data I come across that is interesting. One of the best sources for China is Kevin of “Inside China Business” : if you are interested at all in China, I would look up his channel and start viewing all his videos : they are very short, succinct, and easy to watch - usually 10-12 minutes long only and chock full of charts and figures with sources, so it is basically stats rather than opinion, with only a conclusion in summary at the end.
Unfortunately these UA-cam commentaries do not appear to allow one to paste anything otherwise I would you send some charts eg. Protein intake per capita 2021 (China 124.61g/ day. USA 124.33g/day was the first time China surpassed the U.S. - for comparison India 70.52g/day also gives you an idea of the level of development there) on www.business-standard.com

I can tell you this, a figure you managed to leave out of all your statistics, the annual average income person tells you the wealth of a country. In the U.S. that figure is over $50,000 per person, i don't know the exact figure. In China it is under$10,000 per person(of course China has 4 times the population of the U.S. The currency exchange rate doesn't change these numbers, when you adjust equally for each country. The U.S. is far wealthier in aggregate, as well as each individual annual income. Take our incomes to China(we will live like kings). This is why ex-pats(mostly retirees) move to other countries and live at a very high standard of living. If they can adjust to the new culture.

What you are describing is an artefact produced by exchange rates where the USD buys far more of every other currency than is justified by its purchasing power in the U.S. : this is a result of its being the the reserve currency of the world - The so called “Exorbitant privilege” enjoyed by the reserve currency.
Prices in China are one fifth to one tenth those in the U.S.
So remove the reserve currency status and you will find that the USD will plummet in value against every currency in the world, especially currencies of the “Global majority”. This is what happened in the second half of the 20th century to the British pound as it lost its world reserve currency status.
THIS is why you can retire abroad and live like a king, because the USD is vastly over-valued. It is not real wealth (the productive capacity of a nation) but “wealth” generated by an over-valued currency. Hence the global drive towards gradual “de-dollarisation” that Trump has sworn to fight with “sanctions” - a loosing battle.

China's manufacturing added value, power generation, and grain production are all twice that of the United States. The per capita animal protein intake in China is higher than that in the United States, the per capita consumption of vegetables and fruits is five times that of the United States, and the per capita life expectancy is higher than that of the United States. So, there is no need to compare GDP.

While the size is overstated, it is not as drastic as the most drastic predictions of say 60% sized. Light pollution indicators while under expectation, don’t account for activities that generate gdp while using less light than normal, such as if you built millions of unused “ghost city” flats, which do not correlate well relative to light if no one uses them but can still be bought and sold many times, worsened by the real estate reliant tax structures of localities to build them. Technically valid gdp but about the same level of usability as an NFT. Despite this, they do have a massive power consumption and energy imports that correlates better with gdp growth and also export growth figures, which are much harder to obfuscate. Overall, the size is probably 1-3 trillion less than stated.

GDP is the total amount of economic activity, neither sales nor profits. It's not money, it's just a statistic of the total amount of economic activity. There are both good and bad economic activities, but regardless of whether they are good or bad, they will lead to an increase in the total amount of economic activity. If you build a building that is unfinished or build a high-speed railway station that is unfinished, it will increase GDP. However, these buildings and high-speed railway stations cannot be used, no one will use them, or they will be abandoned. You have to demolish them, and GDP will increase again. Construction and demolition are both economic activities, with GDP surplus twice, and actual GDP should be zero or even negative. This phenomenon is quite common. There are numerous abandoned buildings throughout the country. So sometimes it's best not to use GDP to describe the economy, as it can be very misleading.

GDP is the total amount of economic activity, neither sales nor profits. GDP is a good measure when comparing 1st World free-market economies (apples to apples), but it fails miserably when comparing Authoritarian Cultures/Extractive Governments, which heavily manipulate their currency, markets, and state-owned monopolies.
Given this difference, China's GDP must be heavily devalued by at least 20% in this apples-to-crabapples comparison.
In 1989 the city of Tokyo was valued as the same as all of the continental US.
Japan (free-market democracy) has since spent 35 years in economic stagnation.
The situation is now much worse for CCP gang China, which is an Authoritarian Culture, is hated worldwide, is 300% of its GDP in debt (a world record), most of which investment was wasted on Tofu Dreg crap with a limited life, its crappy Real Estate is overvalued by at least 5 fold (like Japan in 1989). And it is faced with the loss of all its world market share (foreign investors fled, sanctions and tariffs incoming). Which is the only reason it escaped the Mao Era's abject poverty, injustice, and death.
After over 40 years of uplifting by foreign investors, no one can name a single world-class Chinese company, that is a leader in its field.
There is no SpaceX, Amazon, Apple, Nvidia, etc. in China. Maybe you think TikTok is world-class rather than derivative and easily replaced.
China produces nothing that cannot be made elsewhere with "less risk", higher quality, and frequently at less cost.

That's because China doesn't see India as an adversary and the Indian direction is not a strategic priority for China.
China's core interests lie in national unity, in the eastern seaboard, and its rivals are the United States and Japan. China is not willing to get into conflict with India or to embarrass India and thus get into trouble. Victory over a much weaker foe is not worth boasting about, and the Galvan conflict itself is nothing worth detailing, so what can be done with a win?
The Chinese army captured dozens of Indian soldiers, took a large number of photographs, and later handed over the captives to the Indian side. China didn't make a big deal out of it, only when the Indian side was bragging about killing 45 Chinese soldiers/108 Chinese soldiers did they release some photos on foreign forums and make it clear that there were a lot more photos, but ultimately it wasn't publicized and not many people knew about it. We Chinese don't like to brag about such things, but of course, if it was the Indians, they would have bragged about it already.
Captured Indian soldiers are “hands on the head, grab the ears” kneeling, this is an Indian custom?

China's current problem is that rural development far from urban areas is stagnant. In the future, it is necessary to concentrate a large number of rural population in more than 300 regional central cities across the country. Rural areas should be transformed into standard farms to solve rural development problems. The three northeastern provinces have already started to do so, and they can supply food for more than 400 million people.

According to Jose Rizal,a Filipino novelist, the Chinese understate their size and fortune in good times and overstate in challenging times.Following this line of thinking, China's economic size in 2022 is probably 23 trillion dollars -a trillion shy away from America's of that year. But today ,given the obvious Chinese trumpeting, it is probably only between 10-11 trillion dollars.
