A songwriter writes a song but it's like a bird that lays an egg. You sit on it, keep it warm, feed it, but hope that there will be someone to take the song an fly away with it. If God gave you wings, you need to fly. Townes had a rough life, but I think he knew how to fly. Thanks for taking wing.
Wow, this is a really pleasant surprise. Given the breadth of the material Mollie & Orlaith cover I'm not exactly shocked by anything they might undertake, but I have to admit I was not expecting Townes Van Zandt... I'll also point out that if there are any other videos wherein Orláith plays Mandolin they're not as easy to find as this one. Perhaps it's the only one? Either way, I hope to see more. The instrument she's playing is a very "old school" style & likely of some vintage itself. I was surprised by the tone she coaxed from it, but then I suppose that's something else that shouldn't shock me about Dea Matrona; they always sound good, even busking, but especially in their at-home setups. And they're not exactly working with top-shelf studio gear either. That Zoom H2n in the foreground is an old enough model that I'd wager it's a hand-me-down from one of their parents, or at least an elder sibling. It's better than, say, a boom-box cassette recorder but not something you'd find in any studio. And yet in their hands it sounds fantastic. Which leads me to believe they're kind of a "throwback" group in more ways than just the material they cover. They're also more similar to older groups in how they approach songwriting & playing, and likely recording too. When you're well-rehearsed, talented AND sensitive to tone/timbre it's not actually hard to record. Glyn Johns was once asked in Tape Op magazine about how he got such a great sound from John Paul Jones' Bass Guitar. His answer was something like, "I put a mic in front of the speaker and got a good level. Everything else was him." From what I've seen of Dea Matrona (quite a few videos now) I'm guessing recording them is fairly similar. They clearly have that rehearsed/talented/sensitive triumvirate.
Wow, Townes Van Zandt!... You ladies reveal your full versatility with this and your empathy with one another as musicians and performers is remarkable. Many congratulations.
This is the best thing I have seen you do. While you two can rock with the best of them, this was downright beautiful. You are both obviously very musically talented. Your voices blend so well together. You are like the modern day sisters from Heart, though you are not related. You are musical sisters. Keep it up.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Almost anyone can learn to play one specific instrument and one specific music genre. The great ones push out of their comfort zone, including Dea Matrona!
Those vocal harmonies are mesmerizing ! They keep me transfixed ! Whilst the intricate mandolin work flows like a babbling brook right through the song . Just awesome Ladies . From two awesome Ladies . 😀
Oooooooo the harmonies!!!!!!! Every time you perform, I automatically know that I am in for a real treat and this delicious little rendition did just that!!!!! Thanks Molly and Orlaith❤️🔥🎵❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥
So enjoyable, these Gorgeous Ladies have so much Talent to Share, THEY WILL BE AROUND FOR A LONG TIME,.....................AMAZING TOGETHER, VOICES FROM HEAVEN,.................
Absolutely beautiful, ladies. This performance really shines! I am just blown away. Mesmerizing song. Greetings from across the pond in Pennsylvania. You are both so talented! I really enjoy all your music and your harmonies are perfect. Thank you!
Thanks, Orlaith and Molly. He wrote some of the prettiest songs. Also played some very pretty finger-picking sometimes. I shouldn't be amazed you found him, it's been a long time, but for much of that time he was kind of a secret. You more than do him justice, it's as if you met him.
Dea Matrona are phenomenal musicians, and I don’t follow them as much as I would like because the style of rock they do is not one I connect with strongly...working on it. But this style of acoustic folk is what I grew up with, so I’m totally into this!
Hello from Texas, Excellent~! ...... Townes would approve.......there are probably several Texas artists that have songs that you could do excellent covers of, of course Jerry Jeff Walker, but also, someone who doesn't get near the respect that he should, B.W. Stevenson (Pass this Way, Texas Morning, On My Own, Waiting for Spring --sorry, got carried away, I can hear your versions in my head, lol)....... just a thought..... I hope all is well, and getting better every day~!
The song, the melody, harmony, soft voices and the instrumental skill are well blended and delivered. Keep it up. Wish to see many more. Days are pleasant with your videos... 👍
♥️♥️♥️ as usual ! Great work, voices right on time and plays always that good. The choice of the song finishes it. (Every listener makes a wish after « Close your eyes… » 😄 )
Woah! That's f*%#king amazing! As a person who owns a guitar (and plays with it) I'm constantly amazed at your versatility (and heavenly voices)! Brava.
Townes Van Zandt the greatest song writer the state of Texas ever produced!!! Just my opinion lol!!!

Playing some fairly complicated licks while singing in perfect harmony - I don't know how you do it but the result is beautiful.
No joke.

Angelic voices & faces means they are going places...
You always make it look so easy.
Very very few covers match their originals. Only a handful of artists can do it. But you both have nailed that. Out of the park good

You Ladies are so Talented and Amazing to listen too... Love your Melodies, Harmonies and all your performances. Can't wait to see you someday...
