When the AM modulation frequency is below the selected RBW this can happen. The effect disappears when you keep the AM modulated input signal at a "level - attenuation", that is the level as it arrives at the mixer, below -45dBm, so in your setup, setting to a manual attenuation of 10dB would make the effect disappear. So whenever you see something like this it is recommended to switch to manual attenuation and increase the attenuation.
I appreciate the explanation and comparison with another analyzer. Lots of effort goes into your videos beyond a simple device presentation. - Steve W.
You can see the noise floor is lower on the old analog spec an, with the sidebands dropping 60dB. The new modern digital stuff usually has inferior noise and spur performance unless you pay a lot more.
The $ is the key. It boils down to performance per dollar. And the handheld one for $65 or the one for $130 easily wins over my HP or my Anritsu Spectrum Master until I need to make a precision measurement, which was about 3 years ago. But knowing what we're looking at is essential, so I'm very glad for this channel. As my biz partner say, "Know thy tools."

Great video - a quick question for you, does TinySA Ultra, with its 200hz RBW, provide enough resolution for accurate SSB 2 tone (700/1900) IMD3 tests?
is the Tiny SA Ultra upgraded version of Tiny SA? By the way , today i fixed my first FSW R&S Spectrum Analyzer with broken attenuator by replacing 20db pad from another broken attenuator! actually it is a step attenuator repair
Thanks for great video, don't think I will buy one they sell for $65 on amazon, but I will stick to my Rigol bigger unit. The other would be great pocket use.
Just to clarify for other viewers. the TinySA ULTRA is a new product and not the one for sale on amazon for $65. They are about $120. find were to buy here: tinysa.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.Buying
Some folks use hand gestures when they talk on the phone while driving…. Please realize that you do not need to detract from the video by waving anything in front of the camera.
👍 but you need a spankin' for using that abrasive eraser head as your touch pen. If you can't afford a good touch pen, I'll buy some for you. I am soo anal, that I wax all touch & non touch screens. Keeps them free of tiny scratches & repels dust, etc. Great demo on the algo effect. 73

Thank you for making the tinysa Ultra Erik.
The one I ordered from R&L is scheduled to be delivered on Saturday.
Please make your video about that. God bless you.

I see there are things about small digital SA's that I still need to learn. Thank you for teaching me.
The slow sweep time of the TinySA would drive me nuts!
Excellent topic. I just completed a fifth BPF for for my FT-991A and IC-705.
I like making BPF, even winding and tuning toroids. I like to squeeze out the last little bit of performance in my rigs.

@@IMSAIGuy So you are a machinist too? I just got mine out to calibrate the digital mic I just bought.

Very informative! Thank you.
any chance of adding the first tinySA to show the difference of the bandwidth filters of your three SA's
I'll put that on the list

how much rf power I can deliver to tinysa input? I want to mesure harmonics of my diy qrp rig ~5W rf, will it survive?
only 1 milli-watt: ua-cam.com/video/2dKaHbvb7GA/v-deo.html
