Important Update ‼️ It is not possible to pay by Autopass chip or Autopass ferry card in Troms and Finnmark. List of ferry lines in Troms and Finnmark can be found here: www.tromskortet.no/ferry/category4679.html
It hurts me as a swede to admit this since swedes and danes has tried to steal Norways thunder for such a long time: But vikings came orginally from Norway. This video proves it beyond any doubt. The fjords FORCED the vikings to make boats to be able to travel inside Norway crossing the hundreds of fjords in Norway. Sweden and Denmark are both without fjords - so there was no need to invent boats there. Your video just made me realize this fact.
Thank you for this video, very useful informations , those car ferries available in Bergen ? If I will move around nearest city to Bergen, like Voss , Idefjiord , Odda , Norheimsund ..?
Hi! Glad you found it useful! Yes, there are several car ferries and the rest are available with discounts. Some are even free of charge now. You can check the map with free ferries here: crazytroll.no/free-ferries-in-norway-for-passengers-and-cars-route-map/ A quick video about free ferries here: ua-cam.com/video/PpH19seYcps/v-deo.html
Excellent video, explains all, but do have few questions: If we are renting car do rental companies provide Auto pass? and does the 50% apply then? Do renting companies provide tag for tolls? How do we find out which ferries accept auto pass? Is there ferries between Oslo to Trollstigen?
Thank you again. Rental companies provide Autopass but often charge service fees for this. Not sure about discounts, but they charge +25% due to VAT law. Nearly all ferries accept Autopass now, if not they will charge you before or during crossing. No ferries between Oslo and Trollstigen.
An excellent and helpful video. The one piece of information missing is how to pay the deposit from abroad, since this can't simply be charged to a credit card, I think?
We paid an invoice, that is automatically send once account is set up. Suggest to start registering in advance as international payment will take 1-3 days. Credit cards are normally not accepted by government organizations as processing fees are high. However everything can be changed very quickly.
Good afternoon, the video is very good, I just hired the Brobizz, and in the instructions, it says how to place it in cars or trucks, I have a motorhome
An integral motorhome should be considered as a heavy vehicle or a bus. The tag should be placed in the lower part of the front windshield and not obstructed for reading. We placed a few photos from instructions and recently received Autopass tag in the article by the link below. crazytroll.no/toll-roads-in-norway-use-of-autopass-tag/#where-to-put-the-autopass-tag
Since I am renting a car and the rental provider is going to give me an autopass. How do I preregister for the auto ferry pass. I will not know what the autopass or car license plate will be until I arrive In Norway. Can you what to do to recieve the auto ferry without all the passes until arrival? Thanks
Registration of Car and Autopass can be done online and takes 30 seconds if you have an AutoPassferje account. You can add more then one car/Autopass if necessary!
Hi! This tool show the route, calculated toll roads, but doesn't calculate ferry crossing pricing. Each should be checked separately. bompengekalkulator.no/
Can the Autopass be applied upon arrival at the Airport? as it is to late for the mail to arrive. If I rent a car and the car includes the Autopass, would the discounts still applicable? or would it be even more expensive, as the rental company may charge extra for the service? Thanks.
If i am not wrong, the autopass cost 200 a year or something(?). My question is, does the autopass ferje Also have a yearly fee or something? Or is it free? Thank you
Autopass requires a deposit of 200 NOK, which is refunded once Autopass is returned. Autopass for free costs nothing, but to be active requires a deposit, and can be used for multiple cars or Autopasses.
I still do not know how the payment with 50% discount is done. I have both the Autopass tag and Autopassferje card. What must I do to get the discount? Show the card, or just drive on the ferry and the payment is automatically done with dicount?
Hello Hein! Once you got Autopass and Autopassferje card, just log in to the Autopassferje website and add to your account the Autopass tag. Once the deposit will be paid, a discount will be applied automatically. Most ferry crossings are equipped with a tag scanner, but some are still manned and the ferry crew will scan tag and charge accordingly.
Thank you! But I thought that the Autopass tag was automatically linked to the Autopassferje card when I was registering that card. The tagnumber automatically appeared when I did that. Have I forgotten something?@@CrazyTroll
@@heinweijers7470 Yes, you need to pay the deposit to get the larger discount. Otherwise your card will be charged at the lower discount and you pay after.
Great video thank you, but I'm still really confused. So far I am thinking I need to register with auto pass, then a provider (looking at tolltickets) as travelling all round scandinavia. Do I still need to register with autopass ferries as you described or will the discounts be covered via tolltickets? Hope this makes sense.
Yes you do. You can actually make a account with autopassferje, but to make it properly was for a discount, you will need to add vehicle and autopass tag. Not sure why they made a separate service, but this is how it works today. So: 1. Get Autopass tag 2. Register tag with Autopassferje 3. Make a deposit. Hope above clarifies.
Hi, did the system change? If I click on my page it says it is only in Norwegian? Do we now have to sign up directly with the provider? Do we still need to register separately for the autopass ferrry when already signed up with Skyttelpass for example?
Skyttelpass is provider of Autopass tag and give some discounts on the road and few ferries. To get 40-50% discount you still have to make deposit on Autopass for ferje, there should be a separate account and then linked Autopass to the system.
Hi James! Car rental companies offer Autopass included in the service package. Normally it costs about 30-40 Krone per pay and often they charge full toll without discount. A bit more detailed we wrote on our website and update it if something changes. crazytroll.no/toll-roads-in-norway-use-of-autopass-tag/#how-to-paying-tolls-in-norway-if-you-drive-a-rental-car
A very helpful video. My questions are, by registering our car in autopassferje to get 50% ferry discount, does it mean we have 2 accounts which both of them should have balance/credit? If yes, that means we have to terminate both accounts to get the remaining balance back, right? When you mentioned "we should top-up on-time", does on-time here mean before the balance/credit becomes zero?
Thank you for watching! Good that you found it useful! Autopass is the system for payment for toll roads and Autopass for ferries is like an additional service provided by ferry operators. Both can be used with zero balance for a basic discount of 10% (may vary a little), if you top-up balance in may give 20% discount for some roads with Autopass, so it is not very applicable for tourists, but Autopass for ferry provides 50% on most ferries when you have a positive balance, which is very easy to terminate and you will receive your deposit back. (You have to terminate only Autopass for Ferry to get a deposit back.) So I would highly recommend getting it in advance even if you have 2-3 ferries on your route. We have posted a screenshot (in the community tab on UA-cam) from our trip to Molde-Ålesund with 50% discounts, which are quite costly. Hope this clarifies you.
Hello Greg Genart Artisto, Sorry for the late reply, hope you found a solution, but the best I was able to find is that some operators can send Autopass tag to the border.
A very helpful video. To get 50% discount, my question is: Do you need the Autopass tag or is it enough with the Autopass card?. I already have in my possession the card where I have signed a prepayment agreement of 3,000kr. Thank you in advance.
Hello Jesús Lucindo Blasco! Sorry for the late reply, as for today, you will need Autopass tag AND Autopass for ferje account. I tried to find out if a prepayment card will give you a 50% discount and seems like it will work only as a payment method on some of the routes.
My god, what a ludicrously complicated system! Autopass (and wait for it to be delivered - if you have an address), Autopass Ferry, then a ferrycard (and a further delivery wait?). Multiple companies all seem to do the same thing. To top it off the autopass site is not working so you can't actually get a pass. They need to get their act together and have one system that covers everything - and completely online using vehicle number plates. I'd like to go, but I can't be bothered sorting through all this rubbish.
Well... I can understand your concerns, but it is a result of evolution of the toll system over long period. Toll roads and ferries are NOT owned by government or single company... hundreds of companies involved. Before toll had to be paid manually passing the station... it took more time, queues and salary to person sitting 24-7 in the booth. Then improvement of automatic payments came reducing time and costs of manpower. But raised a problem of finding owners of car owners with foreign registration plates. Then it was extended to ferry routes connecting 100s of routes with hundreds of ferries. Then prepayment started to give a discount, just to make processing easier. So, actually it is a slow process of evolution and process becomes easier, then it was before, but I totally agree that it remains pretty or relatively complected. Hope above makes sense.

Both swedes and danish are great sailors nowadays, time passes and technologies evolve. Being viking is not only fjords, but heart, soul and attitude.
