Great demo. The one thing most of these brazing rod sellers all seem to emphasize is that a steel bolt is ideal for thread repair so it can easily be removed.
Good job. Protip, next time, wire brush the hole throughly with a small steel bristle brush that'll fit inside the hole. 2nd, before you put the bolt in the hole, "tin" it, get the hole to >730°F. Rub a small amount of the rod inside of it all the way around, ensuring good adhesion. Then finally, do what you did there. This is the way.
did you say stronger than original? I would want to see proof. and this would be really difficult on any alloy cylinder head as it would be next ti impossible to heat the head to that 735 degrees. the head will just absorb the heat from that little torch
Awesome video! I'm about to try repairing a stripped thread on the aluminum clutch hub of my motorcycle. I'm using Bernzomatic AL-3 rods though. Here goes nothin'!

I'm going up against an inner clutch cover bolt that stripped out. How did yours turn out?

What about using lead free solder? I have an m4 screw for a vintage speaker driver that just needs half a millimeter to fit.
Solder is not strong
If you did this on a timing chain cover would it damage the head gasket by getting stuff too hot?
Yes because you must get the metal to 735 degrees
