@snowsant77 hahahhahaha I am sorry. My bad, I just don't really remember the numbers. But from your calculation, 14 million is not all Thai still. But anyhow, what do you mean by blocked by the junta? From what I heard PheuThai is forming the government now, is it not? And I know, they are going to form it with or without Pita party. Hahhahahahahh, now the red and the orange are fighting! First friends, and now enemies. And what is this for me? I am just enjoying the show!!! Hahahhahahah. And if you want to include me to the junta or slave or whatever you want, I am quite democratic. I accept any results from the election. One thing I really want to know though, now Prayuth is gone, who is going to be the villain in Pita's story. Will it be the King? I want Pita to show all evidence and put it on the table.😝 And do not take me wrong, I want to see Pita as the new PM. Especially, khun Mai, she must get the Ministry of Finance😄

If I recall correctly, this was part of the gradual transition towards more parliamentary power. There have been *several* coups in Thailand in the past decades. The military is so powerful there, that you can't just strip away its political power at once, or you'll have yet again another military take-over as a reaction, and you'll be back to square one.

As for whether he is against the Thai people, it depends on who you ask:
Hardline royalists, of which are a majority of old folks, will tell you that he wants to sabotage Royal Institution which is greatly revered by such people, they don't like the reform because it is akin to desecrate the institution.
On the other hand, the reform gets overwhelmingly supported from the youth because the penalty for insulting the king is too severe, it's even more severe than manslaughter, it also has been abused many times to attack politicians both opposition and government.

That the military-appointed member of parliament holds significant influence in endorsing the people-elected prime minister is both absurd and concerning. This newly introduced law appears transiently in the new constitution, claimed to be approved through a referendum. However, the complexity of the referendum's language makes it difficult for most people to comprehend its implications. Those who can see through the convoluted language and recognize the threat have faced repercussions, as they attempted to persuade others not to vote for the referendum and were subsequently imprisoned.

As a country that has the constitutional monarch in a parliamentary democracy system, cities elect the representatives - MPs. The elected MPs from various parties then choose whoever the best and qualified person to be the PM to form the govt. Based on the above and the Free & Fair elections throughout the country, there's NOTHING undemocratic in Thailand's political system. Though unelected, all senators were scrutinized and selected from the accomplished and seasoned professionals in wide diverse fields. They were actually nominated by the small group of military leaders, who took over the country when the gov't in power then had repeatedly failed to work things out with the opposition parties and the leaders of mass protesters and continued to let the country be in the state of chaos and disfunction, who later submitted the screened candidates for formal appointment by the King. These senators were legitimately part of the legislative branch under the current Constitution which as approved by the majority of Thai voters throughout the nation (16.8 million of 29.7 mill of total legal voters). So, most Thai people in and outside the Kingdom have had no problem on this issue. It's the politicians of the party as sour losers (Pita, his pals and his party) who failed to muster enough votes in the parliament that have made noises manipulating its party's followers (14 mill) to join them in protests spinning and making false accusations against the Speaker of the House who is from a party among the 8 coalition parties to form the govt. -- This is the fact.

Yes, and this goes not only in Thailand but also in other ASEAN countries. The reason why they are not as United as the EU is because of their positional political procedures that do not flex for collective purposes.
Now the EU has a new strategy for the Indo-Pacific and looking for like-minded countries in that region. The EU's intention is to create diverse supply chains instead of being dependable on Chinese ones. Now with this clear identity of Indo-Pacifi on political procedures and type of democracy, the EU should have an understanding of what they are getting into.

I know perfectly well the difference between the EU and the ASEAN. Using it to accuse anyone and tarn it with stigma does not work for anyone's stance and does not increase knowledge or a constructive debate.
My point is that many EU institutions seem not aware of the differences between ASEAN membership and EU membership. The EU should not take for granted any type of cooperation with any ASEAN member based on democratic identity likemindedness. Believing such is a misunderstanding and may fall to disappointment or deception.
However, there may exist room for rooting trade agreements and mutual understanding of commercial boundaries and limited investment or FDI either by joint venture or partial equity participation. The reason for this strategy is that the largely controlled economies in SouthEast Asia are detained by local oligarchs.
