The fact that Mick Foley is still doing regular interviews, signings and just seems like a really genuinely nice guy after all that punishment is unbelievable to me
Mick Foley is from what people/fans have said, whether it's at a signing or ?? Mick Foley is a really good person. A very genuine decent guy. So your comment was on the mark. Unlike the self proclaimed all-time king and creator of Professional Wrestling, Hulk Hogan. Some of the top guys seem to start believing their own hype and it turns them into narcissistic egomaniacal and arrogant people. The female wrestlers aren't immune to this behavior either. But Mick Foley has always been very decent towards the fans, especially the kids. He has taken more "bumps", more brutal shots than almost every other wrestler I can think of. Only Terry Funk is close. Mick Foley has done the most unbelievably dangerous, difficult, and absolutely insane moves and matches that most people have ever seen. Case in point, the one that stunned me was the Mankind vs. Undertaker match where they are on the top of the cage and the Undertaker grabs Mick Foley and launches him off the Hell in the Cell cage and onto the announcer's table, smashing it and him to ground. Mankind, 🌵🌵Cactus🌵Jack🌵🌵, and Dude Love were three absolutely amazing characters that Mick Foley was perfect doing. He is a legendary wrestler and is absolutely one of the best all-time wrestler. For anyone who calls Wrestling fake, try and take the shots that Mick Foley has taken. It may be "pre-determined", but falling or being thrown off a 20-30 feet steel structure, or has tried being slammed onto a huge pile of thumb tacks? I'll bet that it really really hurts.
Yeah I heard mick is one of the most genuine and nicest people you would ever meet! Be surprised what you see in the ring and then out of the ring lol.
@@EdsterIIIStevie Richards did a video pretty recently on UA-cam about taking the tacks and he said “Yeah, there’s no way to fake that. It hurts.”
@@MLPazBarbed wire is worse.
@@colingordon0986 I first saw him as a kid as Cactus Jack in (I think) WCW and even then he just seemed different level mean - like properly scary. To find out later he seems like an absolute gent and thoroughly nice
guy still seems so at odds with what he was in the ring but really glad he's actually okay given what he's been through.
Mick was the true 'people's champion". No glitz, no super buff power lifting physique. He was closer to just being the average person more than most of the other superstars of wrestling. Super down to Earth. Someone that most could relate to.
That's why he worked so hard.
He walked past me at Hersheypark like 20 years ago I said hey Mick he said hey and kept walking...not sure other people knew who he was
@@williamgilbert682He had a gimmick though, that's what made him a star and currently no one is
The I Quit cage match between Magnum TA and Tully Blanchard is one of my all-time favourite matches
The shot that has always made me the most uncomfortable is the one where Foley is obviously feeding his back to the Rock, only to get clobbered in the head when he looks up to see why the Rock isn't hitting his back. The Rock should absolutely been able to read that situation.
Mick was literally quoted as saying he kept goading rock to hit him. So it’s on both really
@@fbheavymetalgamer5455 nah, they agreed to 5 and went way overboard. 12:34 really highlights it as he stated. At that point Mick is out of it and it's on rock and the ref and the staff to protect him from himself. No way he could consent to all that additional damage.
Dont matter now though! it all worked out, but in the heat of the moment that was a big yikes moment.
@@Runny117 Yeah there are different variations to it. Think Foley agreed to five hits but then his adrenaline started going and he just wanted Rock to keep hitting him. He said that in a couple of shoot interviews IIRC.
Some say that Foley was mad at Rock for hitting him too many times, some say that Foley was mad at Rock for not hitting him enough. It's very blurred.
@@Runny117 You may want to watch other clips or read different articles. They had to pivot since Mankind was supposed to be closer to the entrance. So he kept telling The Rock to hit him until they reached that area.
@@QuickTipsAccounting And again, sometimes you need to protect wrestlers from themselves. that is literally what the ref is for. You can't expect someone who's taken 9 chair shots to the head to be able to make good decisions LOL. no way he could have possibly been able to consent to anything
Based on some stuff I have read recently, Mick is REALLY paying the price for what he has done in the ring. He's something like 2 inches shorter than he was and can't get many surgeries he needs because he is too beaten up. I am glad that he seems to be okay mentally, but physically, I feel soooo bad for him.
Yeah that man is a freak of nature for what he put his body through. but let's face it... His body is insanely rough, This match alone would've ended most of our lives the way things went but not Foley, he came out feeling like he just had a warm bath. I've always respected the fact that he could take so much punishment but had the heart to keep going.
He's not fine mentally. He's blinking at an abnormal rate and twitching. As someone who has a neurological disorder I recognize a lot of the symptoms. I wrestled for 4 years myself. Those four years did more damage than anything in my life. 2003 to 2007 nearly killed me.
His limping and posture issues are caused by a missed elbow drop where he hit the concrete really hard. It's so far has been the worst injury he's suffered. Just like HBK's back injury, if you look at the tape of when it happened it really looked like nothing. Foley just jumped onto a concrete floor and got up right away. So far, Foley seems to not have suffered any major injuries/afflictions from all of his other matches besides his missing ear
@@ModernDayRenaissanceManSo far, he seems to still be fine and functioning. It might change in the future though, but Foley might have lucked out and got away with it unlike with Benoit. Benoit did his headbutt every single night, and so far it seems that the most intense punishment Foley's head has suffered is this match and the other chair shots to the head he had over the years. If he has any symptoms from these, I think other wrestlers of his time like Rock and Austin would also start having mental issues as they get older too
@@ModernDayRenaissanceManbut he's never killed anyone and he's in a sound state of mind and can have a normal conversation
Foley is god
Mick is the only guy that made getting thrown into the steps look natural. He didn't lean into it and hit it with his shoulder. He hit it with his legs.
Mick. Mic is short for microphone, and is pronounced Mike.
@@smeagle3295But you knew he meant Mick tho. Why correct him it’s just UA-cam 😂 he’s not turning in an essay in MLA.
Now that you mention it, it's true
Gotta be the dumbest thing I've read today
That always bothered me about modern wrestlers hitting the steps - especially John Cena. He'd hit the steps with his shoulder, plant, and *push them away* with his arms. It's looked hokey every time.
Dont let his charm and pearly white smile fool you, the rock is not a good guy.
Dwayne Johnson is a fake, hypocritical douche
So you think he was trying to kill Mick Foley? What are you trying to say?
@@jadenkelly5969yes
He sold out... he is no longer the guy we grew up watching 😢😢😢
Sold out how? Because he went and did movies for more money? I'll admit he comes across as phoney sometimes, but he's basically in charge of WWE now during this whole new era of awesomene wrestling that's beginning, also..his final boss character is basically 1999 Rock 2.0 lol.
I love how Jack goes: "No way I stabbed that dude 14 times, I ain't no killer. I only stabbed him 9 times, fucking watch the tape brother" as if stabbing someone 9 times during a wrestling match is way better then stabbing him 14 times. Also: bashing someone's head in with a chair and not even checking in on said dude after the bell rings is pretty fucking disrespectful Rocky
I can SMEEEEEEELL what the Rock is cookin-
And it stinks!! 🦨
I watched this in a really loud dive bar. People were saying: "This has to be fake. Nobody would really do something like this."
I said: "How actually could this be fake? He hit him in the head until he busted it open." The whole place went quiet. We were not entertained.
🐂💩
Fun fact: I was at this show and they did not play the audio to Foley’s promo during Heat, so we weren’t clued in to that bit of the story to the finish. That's why the crowd seems deflated by the finish and not angry.
Wait, that's crazy? So the crowd didn't hear anything, it was just layered on for the PPV?
@@mortenalbring1 Not quite. Foley cut a backstage promo during Heat that we saw on the center scoreboard screens but had no audio for. That's when he screams "I quit" three times. So when they played that same audio cue over the screwjob finish we as the crowd had no context and were thus quite confused. Had we heard the Heat promo the reaction would've likely been louder boos instead of confused silence.
Having watched this PPV and the episode of heat prior to it very recently, this adds a lot of context. I remember thinking as I was watching that the crowd's reaction isn't nearly as visceral as it should have been, given that Foley was a well-liked face at this point, and while I don't think The Rock was necessarily a traditional heel, he was definitely exuding heel energy around this time, and he just screwed Foley. Why isn't the crowd ready to riot? Well, now I know.
@@tawnos1787 Right?! They really nerfed the potential energy for the finish.
Are you saying the “I QUIT, I QUIT, I QUIT” audio wasn’t played inside the arena?
I remember watching this with my dad back then, and I just remember him saying stuff like "that isn't supposed to happen" and "Foley is going to die if they keep on" but I couldn't comprehend it at that time because I was only like 8 or 9. Now I understand what he meant when we were watching. That is just absolutely brutal.
Your dad is an exaggerator.

it’s not a real chair they’re made weaker
Met Mick Foley a couple of times. Such a nice guy, I feel the Rock should have pulled back on most of those chair shots.
I think 5 would've been plenty. 11 is gratuitous
Those chair shouts still scare me till this day
Knowing what we do now about Benoit and concussions, yeah 😕
@tlv8555😂😂😂
That match will be the reason mick has cte in his future. 😢
I'm not a big fan of Hulk Hogan, but one thing I've always said is he was safe, look how Hogan uses chair shots to the head, Hogan makes contact, but never layed them in!
They look really fake though
Hogan never hurt anyone
Hogan's chair shots are hilariously bad though, he gently taps them on the head. It's best to just not do a chair shot than do one that bad.
@@pmc8451why? Safety is more important than anything.

What does that supposed to mean?? It’s all fake wrestling and it wasn’t even his idea
@@BlackEffect It means that he is a calous and ruthless backstabber behind all those fake 52-teeth smiles. Foley entrusted his health and wellbeing to him and Rock exploited it ruthlessly, knowing full well that Foley would just take it. Rocky had a nasty line in chair shots. The one to the back of Shamrock's head was also brutal.
Rock smashing a chair into Shamrocks face is brutal as well
@@AGxAGThe funny thing is Shamrock wanted Rock to hit him right in the face. And for him to swing it hard. Shamrock is a damn nut.
Ken Shamrock deserves more credit. Not just for his wrestling and mma career, but for how touch he truly is.
It wasn’t to the back of his head….it was to the front of the face
"You don't swing it, I won't sell it"
Do you even watch wrestling??
I always wondered why The rock has never talked about this match, Now I can see why.
Rock bashing the back of his head in the end even though Mick wishes he went for his back even once says a lot about Rock. 12:31 Another egregious example of the Rock aiming for the head and ignoring Foley presenting his back.
What does it say?
who would have thought that head injuries could cause brain damage
The Rock was lucky he wasn't fired after this match. Seriously, those chair shots were reckless. Mick could have suffered serious brain damage, and his family were traumatised. Can you imagine how the children felt? Forced to watch their own dad get his head bashed in. And by a man that they believed wasn't going to seriously hurt their father.
This match is extremely hard to watch, especially when you think about the effects head trauma had on other wrestlers like Benoit. Mick had every right to be piss off at Dwayne!
You're surprised someone like Vince was ok with this?! In the documentary, what does Vince say? "That's showbusiness!"
“Can you imagine how the children felt” when speaking on Mick Foley’s wrestling career is hilarious, when none of this is The Rock’s ideas or shtick it’s MICK’s 😂The ideas came from his sick head and He’s literally known as the Extreme guy along with Funk, his hero. and firing the ROCK? 😭😭😭

The Rock got a promotion after this you idiot. He did exactly what they planned to do. His children were scared because they don’t know it’s fake or not. Maybe shouldn’t have brought them

Great times watching this as a kid
It’s what made wrestling awesome
The angles that were shown in the Beyond the Mat doc really put into perspective how violently Rock was hitting Mick. Some of that shit could have killed him.
The Rock knew EXACTLY what he was doing.
He is an absolutely horrible human being.
I know that this isn't the most important thing in this video; but Chris Nowinski has aged really damn well, he legit almost looks the exact same as he did in the WWE.
I contacted him recently just to thank him for the work he’s doing with CTE research. It’s incredibly important.

Hell in a cell against Undertaker was also pretty brutal. If you read "Have a Nice Day", Foley talks about his time in Japanese wresting, and their Extreme matches, tacks, barbed wire, boards with nails, it was a brutal read.
This coming from a man who was in ECW
This match isn’t even fun to watch…. It makes me sick to my stomach. I saw Mick’s one man show in 2013 (I think that’s the year) & Mick was super smart & funny & I don’t see how after this. I worry that he’s going to get CTE eventually. ☹️

It's weird Foley got all these shots but Kane is the one acting like his brains are a mush.
16:40 Smark in the front row sees Mick's head and gives the X! Nuts

Definitely just taunting. There's no way an Attitude era mark new about that symbol pre-internet.
@@budafuka I'm not even sure that signal was in use at the time
This is the essence of micks career, and crazy as it sounds we can’t get enough carnage and mick has known it since day one. Go back to his early stuff in WCW and this is just another Tuesday night for Foley, his Vader matches were pretty brutal and so fun to watch.
Also a key component of the chair shot is someone putting their hands up to increase the sound of the impact and disperse the impact. Having foleys hands bound was an insane decision
Probably the exact reason they did it. Foley's character and popularity thrived on pushing the limits of kayfabe. This went too far but he had a hand in it.
The fact that Mick Foley didn't try and bury the Rock after this match is such a testament to Mick Foley's kindness as a human being (as well as how over the Rock was at the time)
So many other wrestlers in Mick's position that night would have used it as an excuse to try and convince Vince that Rock wasn't ready for the main event yet and do all they could to bury him until he was stuck wrestling Val Venis for the European Championship.
Foley did bury rock in his book
@@mattbones-nz3pw yeah, but, I think the thing that matters most is that he didn't try and play any backstage politics to try and ruin the Rock's career or whatever (at least as far as I know), nor did he at least try and do his best to avoid having to work with Rock.
The fact that Mick continued to work with the man that almost damn near KILLED him in front of his wife and children right after that match, as well as the fact they were a tag team by the end of the year is a testament to Mick's forgiveness, or at the very least, his professionalism.

Rock has always been a dick. He sacrificed his soul for fame and riches because he's a greedy piece of trash.

The worst Part is you can get the same effect story wise hitting them on the back with the chair, Imagine for a second Rock Getting mankind down and just Thundering him in the back with the chair until he Passed out from the pain
Same effect I think
Any hit with a chair on the body hurts, unless it's a mild Ric Flair chair tap. The chair's tube frame hurts much more than the sheet metal of the chair back and seat section.
Clearly not, since we are still talking about it beacause of the damage the chair shots in the head produced in foley
For the longest time I thought the chairs were props (lighter/almost tinfoil like) like the trash cans they used. The trash cans would crumble so easily, it was just obvious. So I never thought anything of it as a kid. They dont look like your old heavy metal middle school auditorium chairs from the 1960s given how thin they were, but I’m now aware that they definitely still packed a wholop given the bans on headshots. And The Rock was incredibly stupid for that match. It especially shouldve been common sense to not slice him IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD like that at the end like. His young self was witty but dumb as a…well…rock
Maven said on his show that the chairs are thin gauge metal. I don't know if that was always the case though
Not going to lie, Mick being strong in front of his kids like that at the end... nearly brought me to tears. No kid should have to see that.
I remember meeting Foley at a convention about a decade or so ago (2015-2016ish) and I remember asking him which match hurt worse, the cell match at King of the Ring or this match.
He said it was this match.
And how he was able to put on this match only SIX MONTHS after the cell match is beyond me. Straight up.
He had an abnormally high pain threshold and weird skeletal structure, especially his skull.
Spat my drink out at the Pazuzu face. Was in the middle of a sad while reliving the first time I saw this match. Absolute mood brightener 10/10 bit
The fact his wife and kids were there, (when they were little) just makes this matdh so much more brutal. Excellent storytelling.
More like reckless endangerment. I bet those poor children were traumatised after this match.

Why would the rock do this ?

Why would you bring your kids to watch you get murdered? The rock definitely went to far. He put everything he has into those hits .
It was miscommunication. Foley wanted him to lay those shots in to make them seem brutal. It was an I Quit match, and he wanted to make the Rock seem absolutely heartless, to give him the gas needed to elevate him into the top tier on the card. Mick didnt realize how many shots would be needed. He figured like 5 or so. But they had already done about 5 while in the ring. Unfortunately, not realizing how long that aisle was gonna be, it took several more shots to get them down to where Mick needed to be, to collapse on the floor and end the match. Rock was laying them in cause he had been told to, but yea he probably should have realized that you shouldnt be smashing a human in the head that many times, especially with his hands not up to protect himself.

The craziest thing about all this to me, is that the WWE fines people for doing the chair shots, the studies are out there now for how bad they can mess people up, and yet the indie circuit, where you're performing for maybe a quarter of the viewership of the big leagues are still handing out chair shots left and right
More like 1% at most. Nowhere near close to a quarter. And those guys don’t last nearly as long because they’re not being safe with it.

Those 11 chair shots still make me cringe over 20 years later
The Rock was my absolute idol when I was a kid, from 8 to 13/14. As I got a bit older and he became more and more of a movie star, I started to see the sort of person he actually is. I cannot truly describe the disappointment I felt. I genuinely just don't like the man these days. He's a literal walking, talking and breathing advertisement, then you add in the constant lies about stupid, unimportant stuff like the "never had x fast food" when he posted the same thing within the last couple of years. I just can't be doing with the man these days. What a contrast between him and Mick Foley. As an adult, Mick and 'Taker are the true legends of that era of WWF.

Mick is my friend. There were two times my ex and I really got into his ass about what he did in the ring, the Hell in the Cell with Taker and this one! Yes Mick wasn’t happy with Rock after this and no Rock didn’t check on him either. I’ve never seen Mick mad, I mean really upset until he told me what really happened in this match. I couldn’t believe he did this. One thing Mick is, is a true family man and this bothered him a lot.
Hell of a mate to have. Bet it's a fascinating delight to have a beer or dinner with someone like him.
So basically you just told us literally everything that Mick Foley said in Beyond the Mat, in his books, and what was discussed in this video.
@@morrnmanderson7376don’t be so cynical. This guy is definitely micks best mate!
Well Mick is my neighbor and he told me the same....so I can confirm. lol
The Rock is my friend. He told me to tell those jabronis and candyasses to know their roles and shut their mouths.
I remember watching that match on YT. My God that was brutal. Foley should a contract for life with health insurance with WWE just for all the shit he took
Yeah but you know, Vince and such.
Mankind had just become WWF Champion when I first started watching pro wrestling (with my Dad finally caving - for the live football - and getting a Sky subscription). I missed the win, but started following from the following week. This was, therefore, a large part of my first ever PPV experience (though, at the time, you got it at no extra cost as part of your UK Sky subscription).
Compounding things, the show overran so my first attempt to record a live show ran short and ended shortly following the conclusion of this match.
As a result of the impression it left, I could never accept the Rock as a babyface until he teamed up with Foley (in the Rock n’ Sock connection).
Forever - to me - Foley is God. ✌🏻
How did it end shortly after the conclusion of this match? As the Royal Rumble came after so the overrun wouldn't have mattered in that aspect.
@@Hyde_Hill
Basically, it cut out as McMahon/Austin (whoever entered second) was making their entrance, so I missed the whole Rumble match.
I went by the scheduled timings on Sky Sports (01:00 to 04:00 hrs I think), using a new VHS Tape on “long play” - so it had to be to do with the timings.
Next day was a school day (aged 14 at the time) so I didn’t stay up to watch live.
@@robt4390 Even still the ppv hadn't been on for 3 hours by the time the Rumble match started.
@@MBM1117727
Well, maybe there was a delayed start or something (for the UK Broadcast) or I messed up with the timings?
Either way, I missed the Rumble match (for better or worse) and my recording ended shortly after the conclusion of the “I Quit” match, so that was the lasting impression I got from my first PPV (even though I caught up on the outcome of the Rumble by the Friday, when Raw used to air in the UK).
@@robt4390 maybe you used a 2 hour tape. Either way it was a poor Royal Rumble match. But you probably would have enjoyed it as a new fan.
MANKIND IS THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT SUPERSTAR,HE ALWAYS BROUGHT MORE THEN ANYONE ELSE ALWAYS
The whole extra chapter to Foley's first book is in the aftermath of this, and is basically Mick bitching out The Rock over this match
He had every right to complain. The Rock was reckless and could have killed Mick with those chairshots to the head.
Bitchin? He could have die, bitchin is what the rock did to Cody Rhodes, the Rock fans sure are really b!tches
Excellent commentary, perfect clip inserts. Nice video chaps
Benoits death and the tragedy surrounding it is one those moments in my life where I can remember exactly where I was when I heard the news. Hadn't been into wrasslin for years at that point but it still hit home.
Dude…. I was laying on the beach in California & started bawling. Chris was one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. The whole thing breaks my heart & I’m sorry but I 100% blame CTE. Even more devastating to learn that he only had about a year to live regardless - he would’ve died of a heart attack.
@@longbeachgrrrrl Oh really? This is the first I've heard or read about that. I know he had the brain of an 80+ year old man due to all of the concussions, but I did not know that he eventually would have died of a heart attack.
@@WorthlessDeadEnd - I’ve read/heard it in several different places. Off the top of my head I can’t recall where but if I run across it again I’ll post the links.
@WorthlessDeadEnd it's true. He was basically in the same boat as Eddie due to steroid use, among other things. His heart was basically a ticking time bomb.
@@longbeachgrrrrl I was working at a Price Choppers (a place since closed) in the meat department, doing the cleaning of the meat cutting room, listening to the radio at the end of my shift. It was surreal hearing that news read out.
"He doesn't want to hurt Daddy, he's Daddy's Friend"

How did he kill him when he’s still alive?
@@jadenkelly5969 He only lost one life, there's only two Faces of Foley now
Also look at Hebner the ref, on that last hit you can read his lips dont hit him again dont fucking hit him Dwayne
PCT is post cycle therapy. A term used by steroid users to describe the regiment that was used to pass drug tests but keep most if not all of the muscle gains. Without proper pct, gynochomastia is common.
He probably blasts and cruises. He should have used a serm like Arimidex.
Regimen
@ibiza1290 arimidex is an AI not a SERM.
Lance Storm knew the amount of damage that could be done with chair shots to the head and the poor lad got boo'd everytime he had to give them by the ECW crowd as there was no force behind them as he cared for his opponent.
I wasn't a fan either but maybe once in a blue moon for a heel finish under the understanding that it's only one and that's the finish, not 11
Some of those ECW fans were hyenas and psychopaths, no better than the deathmatch ultraviolence crowd.
Great commentary guys. Outstanding perspective on this match and covering CTE. Great job.
Rocky should have been fired for being so stupid.
To me, the best Chairshot-to-the-head-heavy matches were between Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka in ECW. They should never inspire and they should never be replicated by any means - but wow, what a unique series of matches. They literally turned it into a violent art form.
I never got how Awesome didn't get hired after his one night stand match against Tanaka. What great work. Personally I guess because he didn't have any allies. The ECW guys resented him leaving to WCW as champion, the WWE guys resented him choosing WCW over them and didn't want more competition and the WCW guys saw him as a failure because of how he had been booked. When he had every right to take the pay day in WCW because Paul was screwing him out of his money.
dude the 2 or 3 matches tanaka and balls mahoney had were brutal to balls axl rotten tanaka awesome had the hardest chair shots in the business
@@owenmcinnis8098 - 'Having a hard chair-shot' isn't a skill.... It just means you're not overtly concerned with the well-being of your colleague(s).

Those for back in the old ECW had chair shots that when you were watching it live on Tv they used to whack each other so hard in the f****** head dude them headshots it would make your whole body shiver just watching it f****** brutal
The Rock never addressing this disgraceful match is a stain on his character.
Actually shameless behaviour.
The crazy thing is before the match the Rock promised Foley's family he would not hurt Mick. Foley told Vince he had to retire due to memory issues. Now Foley mentioned he is unable to come on WWE TV to do a live promo because he can't remember his lines. The ref in the match was an experienced one but shocking Shane didn't come out a second time to try and stop the match. The ref should have gotten in closer to intervene but Mick probably wouldnt have let him. In the end its the Rock's fault for giving 5 shots before they even left the ring. Foley should have exited to the left of the ring so he was closer to the ramp where they needed to finish. Either way the damage is done and Im sure this match has contributed to Mick's current health changes. God bless you Mick but you didn't need to take it this far just to entertain us!
I was never a big fan of the Rock to begin with, but when all of the BTS stuff was revealed in "Beyond The Mat", I lost every last bit of respect I might ever have had for him as a pro. What always struck me as the worst part (besides Mick Foley being hit on the head repeatedly with unprotected, unpulled chairshots, of course) was not even the blatant taking of liberties on Rock's part. It fast the fact that he did it to the only guy of whom he absolutely knew that he would never retaliate in any way, neither on the spot or at any later time, but just take it. This was such disgusting, malicious and calculated bully behavior and it's a damn shame Rock was never, ever made to face some consequences over this. It's a late vindication that he seems to be falling out of favor with more and more people these days.
Mick Foley was the greatest wrestler from the greatest era of wrestling.
Seeing this live at the arena was unreal. My friend and I knew we just witnessed something legendary. Those chair shots could be heard from everywhere in the arena.
The rock: do you quit!! after 99 chairshots.
Mankind: you'll have to kill me
The Rock: pulls out the switchy
Rock has a line in Fighting With My Family that lets you into his mindset. He's complimenting another guy who ended his career taking a bump to make Rock look good, while Rock would never do that for anyone. Basically anyone who agrees to go over the edge with Rock will suffer bc his own image is the only thing that matters to him
You don’t even know the man lol. You’re just assuming
@@BlackEffectdid you even watched the vid?

This match is the reason why I fell in love with wrestling when I was 8 years old
I don’t care if he was worth billions to wwf, should have been fired right then.
Everyone talks about how great the attitude/90's ecw era was, but as time goes on, Austin, the Rock, Vince, New Jack etc. look worse and worse.
What’s crazy about Beyond the mat and wrestling with shadows is there is so much there that is legendary behind the scenes stuff.
Really makes me wish someone had a camera rolling backstage at all times back then. Think of all the interesting shit that happened we will never know about.
But WWE FANS: AEW is disgusting and has no story.
And AEW was what WWE was and Mick Foley is a Hardcore/Extreme/Deathmatch legend something WWE use to be proud about.
As brutal as this match was it was nothing compared to some of his matches in Japan, at the end of the IWA king of the deathmatch tournament final (against Terry Funk) he is literally lying in a pool of his own blood, I'm not sure if it was the same match but I remember him pulling thumbtacks out that were stuck into his skull, he got 2nd degree burns to his arms at one point too. Foley is God.
I will never forget me and my friends ordering this ppv and watching that match. It was brutal and shocking. I was also stunned at the ending thinking Mankind had quit. These were the days. Being a 19 year old kid watching the amazing attitude era.
Attempted murder live on PPV!
Forget ecw most violent matches this one is by far the most violent and believable I’ve ever seen
Than new jack stabbing someone or steel chairing them until their leg breaks?
Naw rock went into business for himself here, jack just wanted to hurt people
This match was done in ECW first between Cactus Jack and Shane Douglas at Cyber Slam 96!
At 16:40, do you think the guy in the green shirt right in the front row is making the X signal that the referees usually use to signify that a wrestler is injured?
I noticed that, I was wondering that too...possibly? 🤷🏻♂️
Probably a DX symbol
David James, Lisa Snowdon, Nick Faldo and men arrested under Operation Spanner are 4 things my home town is famous for 😅
9:00 u can legit see the blood pooling on the ground from his head wound
Mankind is God
Ever since the shit that went down with the fires in Hawaii it's been clear to the world that the Rock is a grade-A POS. This match was just a precursor.
That was definitely going too far, it reminded me of Bill Kazmaier in Pure Strength (strongman event) where he has a rush of adrenaline and decides to barge into one of the opposing team causing them to drop their heavy barrell down a 20ft drop where unknown to Kaz his teammate is standing, it missed him by centimeters and couldve easily killed him.
Wrestlers were dangerously naive to the danger of head trauma
It does not in ANY way compare to new jack, that guy took things way beyond any line of decency and tried to kill many people, total psychopath and deliberate.
They're empty arena match was great too.
I dont know if that is what he says, but he is showing genuine concern and anger
Lovely outro for the spooky season. Haven't heard Tubular Bells in too long.
Mick Foley is the most awesome guy in wrestling history
