I am a Proud Indian but what Deepti did was unacceptable. There’s a thing called spirit of the game, people like you won’t understand. If we start applying doing such thing to other sports we simply just can’t enjoy any sport. Imagine all 11 players passing the ball to each other only and not trying to score in a football game, there wouldn’t be any goal but would you enjoy such thing?

Not true. The law is not being applied correctly. ‘The bowler is permitted BEFORE ENTERING HIS DELIVERY STRIDE to run out the batsman…. having previously warned him.’ In all these cases the bowler has reached his delivery stride and has dummies to bowl - clearly trickery and poor sportsmanship as well as being against the Spirit of Cricket and the Laws of the Game.

@@themafia3119 While the idea of sportsmanship is noble - it's not existed in the word of sport for half a century at least - now it's about gaining advantage or forcing an error in your opponent to gain one, even by using grey areas of the rules - though in this case the rules state that she was outside of the crease at the moment the bowler was in the crease with the ball in her hand - there's no rule that says a ball has to be bowled before it can be used to stump a player out.
The error was on the british player for assuming her opponent didn't know this or would just bowl regardless of her being out of the crease.
The fault was hers and hers alone - but she'll never do it again and if they are smart neither will anyone else on the team.

If bowler oversteps, no ball. If batsman overstep “not good cricket”. GTFO.

"the spirit"? What exactly is that? Is there a text somewhere that sets it out!! Is there another part of the rule book that explains how the "spirit" takes precedence over the rules . . . possibly when the English are on the losing end?!

As the top comment says, there's only a handful of observers who actually understand the game entirety, but i know one of them...
One afternoon over serveral hours, he explained each and every rule in detail so that by the end of the match i could understand exactly what was happening. He completely blew my mind and cricket became infinitely more interesting and dramatic.
The next day I'd forgotten most of what he'd explained and never watched a cricket match since. It is by far, the most over-engineered bat and ball game ever concieved by man.
You'd think they'd just throw the ball, try to hit the sticks while the batter hits the ball as far as he can and scores points. You'd think...
Watching cricket is like doing Jury duty. You've to figure out whats going on but noone explains what the laws are or the terminology.
The only way you can tell is someone has won or lost is when they cry or smile.

if i remember right they warned her multiple times that she was leaving the box early. then in an interview with the bowler said she was watching the bat to catch her out.
