I am an American that was stationed in Germany and I had the pleasure of calling paderborn my home. It is a beautiful place with even more beautiful people... the people there are so nice that after 40 years they still consider me family.... I love this town and I love the people
IT actually is. OF course there are some areas where crime is a bit higher; but Murder or getting robbed is very Rare. And yes it is a clean city. I was born here in Paderborn and i live here now since 27 years and i would never move to a city like cologne and berlin because PAderborn is way more quiet, peaceful, clean and you still have all the things you need.
Paderborn is one of the most boring & filthy cities you can imagine. It's like a boring village, but trying to act like a big city. Dead stores, trash stores, nothing useful at all. Pretty much every store you find in Paderborn, you can find in a village too. The only exceptions are H&M (cheap low quality clothing) and Mediamarkt (tech store). Mediamarkt also now just exists outside of the inner city, they removed the sister company Saturn there. There's also now a Snipes store, which is clothing for people who like to look like everyone else with no taste about clothing. It's a city for old people who do not care about fun. Best example - The huge big new train station they built. It just got finished, a huge building with tons of hotel rooms on top, but as soon as you go inside the big new flashy train station, there's a small bakery & some newspaper store for old people. That's what happens if you let 95 year old people plan out new things. Millions of euros for literally.. nothing at all. They do not care about young people here, it's a town for age 60 upwards. The old trainstation at least had a McDonald's, which was nice. They just deleted that, and made two whacky stores for people who smell like moldy clothes, garlic & coffee. Compare that to other trainstations & you'll laugh. Starbucks, McDonalds, Burger King, clothing stores, you could literally go INTO the trainstation of Düsseldorf, and have a BETTER shopping experience, way more stores, than if you'd go INTO Paderborn city. It's unbelievable and I'm not even kidding. Check out the stores of "Düsseldorf Bahnhof", it's more than Paderborn offers as a city, because Paderborn absolutely failed at planning a good experience for people. If you wanna eat while travelling, all you will get is basic bread stores, overpriced dry chicken from one of the worst restaurant chains world-wide (Kochlöffel), or mediocre "italian" coffee. There's also a few steak houses which are nice, but otherwise the inner city of Paderborn absolutely sucks. And that's Paderborn for you. It reeks like urine, 80% of the people there do not even speak German, 90% of the stores are village trash, the other 10% are either just ok, or weird off-brand stores for cheap plastic clothes. I do not live in Paderborn, but I live rather near to it, I was born there, and I'm in Paderborn almost every day. If you want to visit a nice city, stay away from Paderborn unless you want the worst possible German city experience. The only nice thing about Paderborn is the fact that you can leave Paderborn rather quickly again, and actually enjoy a nice experience somewhere else. It sucks as a town, and it sucks as a quiet clean village. It's the worst of both, but trying to be something. I'd rather go to Bielefeld if you want to enjoy the city experience, while still having some kind of a village-vibe to it. Crime rate is a bit higher there, but nothing will ever happen to you unless you're a junkie who's fighting other junkies. You can actually go and shop there, enjoy beautiful buildings, landscapes outside the city, and it's not far away from Paderborn too. If you go by train, it's like 50 minutes, by car maybe 25-30 minutes.
Meine Güte!
Wie sehr hat sich Paderborn in den letzten 20 Jahren verändert..! Die Stadt hat sich so sehr herausgeputzt. Ich bin begeistert!
