the Greek keratichomene was rendered in Latin by Jerome and in English at Doay as full of grace in keeping with catholic tradition . Here it is use as a title and refers to the fact tha Mary was already graced from conception, being immaculate . All this is not accepted by Protestants who translated the ESV and the catholic scholars who did the catholic edition did not do us any favors by leaving it the way it was.At least there should have been a footnote
Good afternoon, I’m really interested in purchasing that Bible but I have a question regarding Luke 1:28 and how it is translated in the ESV CE. Any help with that before I purchase it?

@@TradCath why do our Catholic translations read like that when we pray, “full of grace” in the Holy Rosary and not, “highly favored one.” 🤦🏻♂️
My Douay-Rheims says “full of grace.”

If you look up the history of English translations you will see that both the ESV and the RSV originated as Protestant translations, subsequently catholic scholars added the deuterocanon in the OT and made minor changes; that is why the Greek presbyteros comes up as elders and obispos is rendered overseer whereas these Greek terms came to mean concecrated ministers I.e priest and bishop, in the early church and that is how they are translated in the DR
A good catholic edition of the ESV or RSV should have these at least as footnotes
Incidentally a good modern ( 1940s) rendering of the DR is the Confraternity , available only for the NT( project terminated) and available in a nice pocket edition from Sceptre publications; you will not have any Protestant aberrations
