@29:30 - You're remembering older rule sets of Magic Missile. In 5th edition, only cantrips scale with character levels; to get more missiles from Magic Missile you need to upcast it.
wait wat?
only reason to get mm is because it scaled D=
Glad to see someone else making sure Splat knows what's up
@@frozztie7511 in older editions. Spells no longer automatically adjust. Now cantrips and orisons automatically scale and regular spells don't. The reason you take MM is because it always hits. It's really good at low level but at higher level you take it to disrupt casters and stuff like that.
Ok, as someone who cut their teeth on AD&D - THIS IS HERESY!!!
@@lucidnonsense942yep. For me the entire revamp of wizards and things in 5th is a huge failure. I mean 4th also screwed up, but it’s just not in the spirit of things, so screw that.
I'm excited to try the expansion. This game is always a delight. The voice acting may be a bit lackluster, but it always just seemed to me like a GM trying their best to sound different for each character you run into, lol.
"Oh hey we got FIREBALL"... does not cast it whole fight NotLikeThis
I really thought he would when those two enemies were standing next to each other, but nope.
FYI: the bandit did 4 attacks because she did her Action Surge (a Fighter feature, but done only once per combat [well Short Rest really], unless really high level).
Highly suggest the mod Unfinished Business it adds so much quality of life improvements for Solasta. This game has improved greatly with each DLC. Good game from a small studio
Pretty dope cRPG. Traveling looks great.
Thanks for working even whilst under the weather, Matt!
I quite enjoyed playing through Crown of the Magister. I finished it just last week. Right now I'm playing through a user-made adventure called Interdimensional Escalations. It's a huge leap from the main game in terms of difficulty, but then again so is Palace of Ice by all accounts, and it's frankly a welcome change of pace. Nothing like surviving a fight with one character up with damn near no health and everybody else unconscious or dying, that'll get your heart going.
Thanks for featuring this game, it really should get more love than I think it does!
Really underrated game that I’m glad I found awhile ago
Man this makes me remember you playing tabletop campaigns... Shadowrun, D&D(you were an awesome GM!), Warhammer (stop flirting with the space marine lady ffs ^^) - even the whacky space-setting with the Ulysses theme song... Good times, I miss those campaigns.
I have a raised-by-dwarves orcish character in a current tabletop campaign, and she sure as heck has a beard... though in her case it was crafted rather than grown. I'm 100% with you on that one, a dwarf without a beard is just wrong.
Using the mage as a "tank" was funny and i liked that first fight enemies' AI o.O
I like this game's engine and combat system. I like the cover mechanic etc which makes it somewhat Xcom like ?
The UI & Art is decent. I have some problems with some models & portraits, but its not a big issue.
They really need some proficient writers though. The story & dialogues really put me off.
It's not a story centric game tbh. They wanted to create a faithful dnd5e combat simulator and that's what they did. The story the game has is just a background to take you from one combat encounter to the next
the voice actors usually arent great but i felt the writing in the core campaign was more palateable than stuff in pillars or divinity. its not great but servicable and theres very little of it. i like that it was believable enough and quite succinct. these other games arent greatly written either but theres a lot of text. well at least in my opinion other people seem to like it. i would argue only very few games like disco elysium are actually worth reading.
so i guess what im trying to say is, i agree but i would say that counts for basically any game thats not naughty dog or disco elysium or some special smaller game like roadwarden.
Take into account that each character line is multiplied by different backgrounds and character traits. Each cutscene can go slightly different depending on your composition. Like the snarky comment about camping probably requires a chaotic character. Also each line has 5 voice actors. This puts enormous constraints on writing unfortunately.
The reaction to the gold in the party inventory cracked me up so hard... you're a treasure, sir. Never change! lol
love the actual showing of the dice roll
I miss the days when Fireballs filled a volume rather than having a diameter. Having a noob wizard cast Fireball in a 10' wide and 10' high corridor while the rest of the party yells "NO!!" was hilarious.
To tell the truth from one side I hated that the party in Soalsta or Baldur's Gate 3 is only 4 people but from the other side I love it as it force you to pick classes and races and skills combo so you can to replay the games with many different classes and builds to see what works better for you and in the end create a epic OP party of 4.
As a compromise between those who like bearded lady dwarves and those who do not, I am personally a fan of thick muttonchops.
You're the only gaming channel I watch. Thanks for putting in the time.
I've been waiting for this DLC for a while. I'm loving it so far. Bard class is a great support addition. Now, I run the Unfinished Business mod so 6 man parties are a possibility. Iran my OG 4 man group of pally, rogue, wiz and cleric. I added a barb and bard to round out my 6 man group. Unfinished Business adds mobs to balance the play when you add to party.
The new races and classes are great and the new icons look much nicer this xpac
The combat UI is literally IDENTICAL to a couple mods for Foundry VTT.
im very impressed with the project focus in this game. everything thats important works very well in the core campaign, ui looks good and is very useable, combat encounters were interesting with varied locations. plus theres the campaign creator. very impressive for a game that apparently had 100k funding.
Lady dwarves should always have beards!
female tieflings have beards in this expansion for some reason
Entertaining as always Splatty, hope you feels better!
Thanks for showing us, and get well soon buddy !
I remember playing Icewind Dale eons ago, at a friend's house, I didn't have a decent PC back then. Years later I bought it on steam. Neither time I got past the first dungeon, I just couldn't resist picking up every single crappy dagger and I spent a lot of time going back to town to sell my loot. Eventually I got bored. I probably should have left all those 20-pound-rusty-two-handed greatswords that were worth like 5 silver pieces each.
Now I feel like picking it up again. Maybe I can be a little less greedy and actually complete the game at last.
No, you were doing it right! Every piece of loot must be taken and sold, to leave anything behind is wasteful. Icewind Dale is my least favorite of the Baldur's Gate-era D&D games though, you should try Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. Those are the best of all time.
@@MarkDeSade100 wasteful, yes, but going back to town took a long time IIRC, walk all the way back to the entrance of the dungeon which consisted of several rooms, then all the way across the outside area, then you could go to the town, plus the loading screens, and then you have to walk to all the different stores in the town to sell all the different item types... man, I'm getting tired just thinking about it.
BTW, I also have Baldur's Gate 1 which I probably picked up with some discount, but I've never even installed it. If I couldn't finish ID which was a little newer and I had the nostalgia factor to help, I figured I wouldn't be able to finish BG1 either.
@@ezequielblanco8659 Well you're free to play it your way, I'm too OCD for that. Currently playing Kingdoms of Amalur and I have over 3 million gold even though there's not much worth buying. 😅Baldur's Gate 1 is a classic, better if you have the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. And if you do finish it, you can import your save into BG2.
Sounds exactly like my first Fallout 2 run. I was so fascinated with pickpocketing and lockpicking, I stole literally every single thing from every npc and looted every container in every location north from Redding. Took me huillion reloads to pull this off and several trips to San Francisco to push all the swag. I was so preoccupied with this that I totally missed out on Highwayman quest (among many others), so yeah, I was walking back and forth on foot. It was very painful to leave so much precious loot at oil platform, but I struggled through the main questline almost without looting and finally dropped the game, exhausted as never before. Later I was diagnosed with OCD. And this is exactly why I never went through BG2: the moment I saw first loked chest I ragequit 😆
This guy covers so many cool indie games that I would love to see his favorites list. Does anyone know if it's out there?
Bump
Hey man, I don't think he has a list of favorites. He does play a ton of what he likes in his stream tho, it's more casual there and he plays his selection. So you might wanna check what he's been playing there. He is pretty eclectic... so you'll see a bit of everything. All indie... hope that helps!
Game reminds me of neverwinter knights i love this. They just keep putting out good dlc for the game.
I just realized why the last week has felt really weird on youtube... My recommended page shows almost none of my subbed channels. I got alot to catch up on Splat. And a few others
Bjarki just got his share from the Mines of Moria at 36:39.
I see a lot of features that I really wish were in the Pathfinder CRPGs.
Get well soon, the internet wouldn't be the same without you.
Love this game great to see you play it
I think they ought to take a look at Jeybin's head proportions... lol. Can't unsee it once I've seen it.
What a stunning game.. .wow.... seems like it's worth every penny
The dwarves look odd to me in this game. Something feels off about them
their hands are too big.
@@OsimheninMaskesindekiÇivi because the hands of the elf is small and weak compared to the dwarven hand.
The models in general are quirky : in comparison, the Dwarves look nice I find. :P
( I played this game a lot )
Prooooobably because they are black, which is kinda odd for someone living underground...
Badly drawn. And too thin and elegant.
Yeah having shorties and people in plate tends to make running down people in light armor more difficult ;)
Having 2 members of your party overburdened so they move more slowly certainly doesn't help either.
Thank you for picking haste, it was driving me nuts lol
I LOVE SHADOWRUN, I wish they would make a decent modern game set with shadowrun IP. (I loved the older games that had shadowrunIP but there are not enough)
feel better Splat
Lets go splatter boi
Hell yeah, Lady Dwarves need beards... what are people so afraid of!
If you use cunning dodge as your reaction you cannot ALSO have an attack of opportunity. Only one reaction per round
> The joys of being a 5th edition Rogue..."
I get skills for days, and I can't roll less than a 10 on the die...
29:11 I’d like to disagree about your assertion that Magic Missile isn’t viable at higher level. The fact that it’s relatively consistent and also guaranteed damage, plus some modest scaling, makes it an awesome choice when things like a fireball just won’t do. Even more so when you can’t chance a dice roll. If I remember correctly, older versions of the spell were even more powerful, meaning they had to nerf it.
Singleplayer is alright but if you got no friends and no voice chat then you might as well not even attempt to play multiplayer. No in game text chat and most public lobbies just results in randoms being kicked. And the servers have connection and desync issues.
You can check out more detailed gameplay by looking at full walkthroughs. But most of them will not tell you much about multiplayer.
A lot of people don't seem to realize you can start a D&D campaign at any level you want. It's weird. I've also been in many groups where it peeters out by level 5 or so, but next time, start at level 5 instead of level 1.
Kesha. I am her storm and she is my lightning. . The world 🌎 will hear our thunder. "Project Rumor"
> "More of a Shadowrun guy."
Whiz Omae.
For the first time ever, I played something before Splat did.
just bought the base game yesterday and was able too play it for like 2h in a row. a rare occurance in my case, but man these devs nailed the systems like crazy. not a fan of that many dlc content soft locking features, but i mean business is business. they are against bg3 impending release, but really i enjoyed the first 2 hours more than bg3 somehow.
Thanks for showing this one off. I totally forgot it exists. Only downside for me: it's D&D. Not officially but just SRD, buuut... meh.
You didnt get that attack of opportunity cause the rogue already used her reaction to uncanny dodge, so you couldn't use it to attack.
As a Dwarf fan I;m against beard on lady Dwarfs.
Thanks for the video.
I like what I've played of Solasta, but I'm just not sure I have the patience to play through a CRPG anymore.
Solasta uses the ruleset of DnD 5e.
the reason your rouge never got attacks of opportunity is uncanny dodge takes your reaction.
Has the roleplaying aspect improved with this DLC? Or is it still about precanned responses that ignore your chatacters' backgrounds?
After playing this game, I really think TA should focus on tactical games and avoid the roleplaying aspect.
Agreed - Seem to remember from the base by Paladin was a bit dodgy. eg (and paraphrasing)...
1) Old man in wood surrounded by wolves - Paladin - "Lets kill him"
2) Injured Orc - Paladin - "Lets kill her"
3) Injured Cultist - "Ahh, lets help him"
Also she managed to roll three 1's in a row. (I did love her for that though - because funny).
What edition did introduce black paladins?
SQUARE GRID?! PASSSSSSSSSS. Sry dragons and big 2x2 enemies, I'll just create or look for an obstacle so you have to move around it. We moved from square grids since like forever.
Solasta is a thousand times better with friends
I wish they made more games in editions that actually allow for customization as opposed to 5e's lobotomized garbage
Looks like its 10 years too late.
Yeah it's fun with friends but this game is too little too late.
@Nasser while I disagree with OP, this is garbage criticism.
@Nasser there's no space between the ending letter to a sentence and the punctuation.
@Nasser
You lack both the wit and the vocabulary to do what you are trying to do.
Give it a rest and come back when you are past the emotional age of 6.
Nicee
@25:46 That's what she said!
Looks okay.
🖤
Well shit really solasta thanks splatt
This intro is a bit misleading... "It's like Baldur's gate or Pillars of eternity" except it's turn-based & grid-based so it plays way more like Divinity OS or even Xcom
i enjoyed playing the 1st game..but i think will skip this and wait for solasta 2
Yup. Not worth it.
Now they're just milking us with DLC.
THanks
sure wish the makers would not have locked you out of the later levels in the main story they say it's for balance.....Great can we get a setting to turn it off since I don't care about balance and would like to play my way......No.....I see.
Have this game I'm un sure of it. Feels off idk
tabletop wargaming BATTLETECH, pen and paper RPGs my vote will always go to Palladium Games RIFTS title
I ain't gonna tell you what my name is.
ok hold on, maybe i missed it, what is a "cRPG"
Combat RPG... among examples: divinity original sin, baldur's gate 3, solasta, pathfinder: kingmaker, wasteland 3... the list goes on.
cRPG stands for computer RPG to distinguish games like Solasta and Baldur's Gate from JRPGs like Final Fantasy and Disgaea, and from Action RPGs like Diablo and Mass Effect. Or Tabletop RPGs like D&D and Shadow Run.
@@mkbzam huh... I have always heard it stood for combat. Computer/classic does make more sense though
36:05 Brief conversation my arse, you went on a 10-minute-rant about lady-dwarves needing beards didn't you?
This is open world?
* Has like 10 spell slots. Face tanks with wizard...."people loose interest in my dnd campaigns"
How is this game considered open world?
It's right behind Baldur's Gate 3, if you're looking for best, most accurate D&D 5e representation in digital form.
However, that being said, Solasta's strength is mainly in that, in mechanical aspects, in fights. When you're out of combat, it's definitely not as good as Baldur. Plus the graphics aren't even half as good (it's not a problem to me, but I just want to point it out) or the story. Yeah, the story is just... is. It's very basic and nothing special. But, if you're looking to roll some dice and play D&D combat in the form of video game, that's finally implemented properly - Solasta's your game.
I've beaten main campaign twice, DLC (first one) a few times and I had a great time. But you just have to approach it thinking, it's mainly to enjoy some combat. If you want overall great game, wait a few months and play BG3.
Woohooo
I dont expect Solasta here lmao, it's quite a massive game relative to those "legit" indie games frequently featured here. As a DOS fan, Solasta might be the next cRPG, tho as a busy person sadly I haven't got the time yet to play.
a true D&D player will do things and not worry about consecuences, magic evil skull that stink of necromancy? POKE IT WITH A STICK.
win
But what does the c stand for?
Also the hafling... Wtf.
The c in CRPG stands for computer.
@@NRSGuardian thanks. That's confusing af. Coulda just called it an rpg.
@@plick645 As another commenter said, it's to distinguish between JRPG (FF, Persona, Trails of, DQ, etc.), ARPG (Diablo and Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, etc.), cRPG or CRPG would be strictly (or what used to be strictly) computer based emulations of tabletop systems, so, games like the old SSI games (Eye of the Beholder, Dragonlance, Pools of Radiance), Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity, Tyrant, NWN, Pathfinder, or even the Divinity franchise.
Sure, there's RPG, which would be the big umbrella that would encompass everything. Think of it as the "class" in OOP, then under that you'd have the other categories that inherit everything from the RPG class, but then add in their own identifiers/classifications on top of the RPG "class."
@@bytemixsound makes sense when you put it that way.
I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE rnjesus bs in games
twitch that game :)
Are Solasta players "Solastafarians"?
i didnt like the fact that he had to sacrifice blur to cast hold person. thats not in the 5th edition rules. what a bunch of bullcrap.
Looks good,
I just want something that isn’t turn-based combat. Everything seems to be these days!
absolutely agree... i want exactly this game, but with real time pausable combat (first dragon age game comes to mind as a good example). I think the reason there are so many turn based games is because its easier for small teams to develop than a good real time pausable system.
And oftenly slow turns at that. Devs need to look at cutting the fat from turn based combat.
Yeah, while I prefer turned-based...I can appreciate that not everyone does. Really, the devs could implement both like we saw with POE and some others.
@@Mustang1984 I like turn based strategy with real time combat (eg Total War), I sometimes feel like the immersion gets ruined a little when the combat is also turn based
Tbf this game goes authentic DnD, so turn based is absolutely expected here
This is also on Xbox game pass.
Editted and removed for corrections.
No, it was a custom system that was fairly heavily influenced by D&D.
2e came out 3 years after Pillars. Pillars has its own original engine, heavily influenced by DnD. There was a lot of tweaking and testing before release from the team to fine tune it to the point they wanted. It worked out pretty well!
@@JohnGPK My bad I thought Pillars was with Pathfinder but I think I'm confusing it with another game, good looking out.
epico
Why is it mixing Finnish with Scandinavian languages? Finnish is an Ugric language that has nothing in common with Norwegian, Swedish or Danish. And they're doing the whole "give this a name in English and directly translate it to Swedish" thing with "Stenvägg" (rockwall) which sounds stupid to natives, like Skyrim did with Norwegian words (for example "Fjell Mountain" which translates to "mountain mountain") hurr durr
I have to thank you Mathew/Matt/Splat for bringing up the fact that all Dwarven kind have beards, all of them, even the babies. I hate the PCBS we have to deal with in this so called modern day that if anything is an actual regression from the more accepting times past. So from the bottom of my heart thank you again as you're someone with something to loose if they decide your simple statement of fact offends them. It is so refreshing and needed today. As others have mentioned the writing leaves a little to be desired and that can be chalked up to the level of wokeness of the authors which is extremely high. They can't simply create good stories but must shove their woke beliefs down everyone's throats whether it fits the story or not, the narrative must always come first to them the story be damned. Like the no beards on female dwarves it always sticks out and is jarring breaking all immersion. I almost didn't buy this game due to it but I got it on a very deep sale and I have to wonder if that's me showing support for this type of crap or if it shows them that their are those of us that do still vote with our wallets as they say considering I refused to give them full price? Leaves one to wonder...
Anyway thanks Mathew for being the stand up dude we all know you to be.
God Bless...
Cringe
When a dwarf sends in their sample to 23&Me their results always read 'You are of the pretend fantasy races, limited only by your creators imagination." Idiot.
"Is this wokeness now in the room with us? Please Show me where it hurt you" 😂
Damn, 20 minutes for one fight is insane. Thx for the video, i will avoid this game.
Yes that is the problem with the turn based combat. And if you fail, you replay that 20 min. If it was RTWP, that combat will finish at 1-2 min.
Have you ever played actual tabletop D&D? A 20 min. fight is random ecnounter/warm-up category in an IRL game session and longer fight scenes can take many hours to play through. This game seems like a very streamlined D&D 5e adaptation to PC.
@@Easthaven7 real life tabletop d&d? Yes, but you can't compare real life with virtual games. I think that a fight should take so much in a game.
Splatter I gotta ask man, why don't you ever respond to comments? I've followed you for ages and I've never seen you reply to a comment. It's very strange.
I guess just multiply the amount of videos by the amounts of comments each video gets (and can keep getting for eternity). He does daily videos, and for every video it seems he puts some hours in the game before recording. Seems to have a family. Replying to comments would be one of the first things on the chopping block if I was in his situation.
I think he talks in Discord or on Twitch ;-)
it's called mobile ui and graphic, stop dressing up the rats it's not making it prettier :P hehe
