    It is nice to see Godox become a decent competitor for Aputure. There is also other light brands that can be still considered on the budget side, however the 100d at $200 is something that I would have loved to have gotten 6 years ago when I first started looking for lights.

      Hey hey again MobileChaos!
      They are definitely going head to head, it'll be interesting to see if there is a point where Godox can't really compete, not sure if they will attempt a 600c build on their new KNOWLED series. It's definitely amazing what kind of lights we have these days compared to my early days of big huge CFL bulbs, those days were rough.

    Good video... A head to head lighting video would be useful. 120d vs GODOX nearest competitor

      Hey hey again David!
      I definitely wish I could have had access to a 100d and 200d for a full comparison, alas I had to go off of technical data and other reviews for reference. According to my data vs aputures technical data, the Godox 150 series (or in this case the LA200d) is brighter than the aputure 120dii.

      Hey hey again IMDABROWN!
      It's going to be interesting to see what the industry is going to do now. Lights and Audio gear is all more than decent, cameras can do amazing things for the price. It would seem that anamorphic lenses coming out left and right is the new battle ground. In which case the race to the finish line is this, which company can make a "budget" anamorphic lens that has autofocus, boom done. Viltrox? C'mon Viltrox, just do it haha!

      @@TLDR_filmmaker I love the Viltrox 24mm 1.8. Your review help me decide it was perfect for my budget and performance was great. Was able to do a nice short of my grandkids with it. I found the Godox ml60 and Amaran cob 60 don't travel well on a plane. Thinking of trying the Amaran p60c for travel.

    What do you think fan noise is same for Amarans and Litemons? or one is better than another?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again Promikes!
      I think they are probably about the same, I recall hearing the 200x did have a loud fan at the beginning but the new firmware updates gave it a variable speed algorithm. Without having both of the lights I can give a for sure answer as to which one will be louder after running them full blast for an hour. That being said I feel most of these lights with their current fan noise are perfectly fine and won't be louder than your voice on the mic with proper gain staging and microphone placement.

    The main reason I think I would stick with Apurture my self is the new Sidus Link DMX which will allows it to control other Wirless DMX lights through the app, and unless Godox manages to pull off something similar then they are still a few steps behind for the same price.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again Bill!
      That new Sidus Link DMX definitely blew my mind when they talked about it, looking forward to seeing how it will function across the many different companies out there. I have a feeling Godox will eventually create something similar. If theres anything that is a sure thing, companies will always try and copy each other either with a stripped down budget version or a better innovative version, usually the former.

    Great review! Do you by any chance know how the Godox LA200D compares with the Nanlite Forza 200 when it comes to output? Could not find the comparisons on your site as you mentioned, and been looking at different reviews to see them compared but no luck. Thanks!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Рік тому

      Hey hey Skyscraperphilosopher8476!
      I unfortunately do not have a Forza 200 to give you pure readings from my test bed. If I had to guess they should be similar in overall output. One thing you can do is to go Nanlite website and see if they have any LUX readings from 1m away (most companies use this reading) from there multiple that LUX by .25 and that'll get your the approx LUX of my testing distance for you to compare.

    How does the 150bi godox compare to the amaran 200x in output power? I saw a reiview that easured the power draw and at the godox it was 190 watts vs 200 at the 200x bicolor from amaran? Do you have any personal experience

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 роки тому +1

      Hey hey Zak!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      I unfortunately do not have any personal experience with the 200x at this moment to give a more thorough answer. From what I gather between the two, the 200x should be brighter than the 150bi from Godox. Will it be enough for you to see a major difference? Maybe between 1/3 to 2/3 stop of difference. In other words, not anything super super significant. If you're trying to decide between the two, I would reference back to what I say at the end in terms of what company you're already with. If you are not loyal to either one at the moment, than Amaran is still the better eco system to begin with. Godox's eco system is getting there, but their pricing is becoming too close to the Aputure/Amaran systems so it doesn't make too much sense to go with Godox unless you know you only need very specific LEDs that are still cheaper than Aputure.

    Just ordered the 200d on sale for $200. I was initially going to get the 200bi on sale for $300. But I figured I can gel if needed and save the money.
    Question, how does gelling with a cto affect the color quality compared to turning the temperature on the bi led? How strong or how many cto gels would be comparable to what the bi is capable of in terms of warmth?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Рік тому +1

      Hey hey Andrew!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      I personally have not done much with CTO gels. On BH you can get specific ones that will turn the Daylight in 3200k tungsten. From those reviews they all generally say that it does exactly what it needs to do. As far as a bi-color LED you'll have much better control to get the temp where you want it and I believe you'll get a little more output than if you gelled a Daylight LED. Sorry I can't be of more help on this topic, this might be something I should experiment myself.

    I'm struggling to find a meaningful difference between the VL lights. Could you point me in the right direction?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Рік тому +1

      Hey hey Blake!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      Do you mean the difference between the VL and LA series? Or a difference between the VL options. If you mean the difference between the VL 150-200-300 options. Basically its just difference in output level. From my testings from the SL series at that time, there is no meaningful difference between a 150 and 200. If you are going to get one on the lower end, the 150 is close enough to the 200 in power. Otherwise get the 300 for the most amount of power.
      If you mean the meaningful difference between LA and VL. The VL was an older generation of video lights that godox put out maybe around 4-5 years ago. The main difference between the LA and VL is that the VL can be powered with V-mount batteries where as the LA presumable could be powered with a 48v v-mount battery power station. The VL also has a control box which makes it nice and quick for lights that are higher up on a light stand.
      Because the VL is an old model, it does not use the current Godox Light app. It uses the older Light app that doesn't have as many function.
      Hope this helps!

      @@TLDR_filmmaker Wow your kindness and passion really comes through in that detailed response, very refreshing to see
      I apologize for my failure to specify haha I was trying to compare the LA and VL. The new features of the app are definitely enticing; however, I'm a hybrid shooter and some reviews state that the fan is even quieter on the VL series vs LA which I'd definitely appreciate. Who knows, maybe I'll get one of both since it seems like you really can't go wrong with Godox these days (although the VL300 has reportedly some overheating issues 🤔)
      Thanks again for your help, you are very appreciated. Well wishes :)

    With these litemons when you adjust the power does the light increase/decrease in a analogue like gradient, or does it jump in steps? I ask as I'm wondering if these can be adjusted mid shoot without it looking arkward.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 роки тому

      Hey hey again Godsakes!
      Depending on the severity and timing of the adjustment in mid shot, you might not see it. Because all these lights are digitally controlled they are technically going to move down in a step like fashion versus a true voltage potentiometer dimming. So if you went slowly through the dimming range, you might be ok. But if its a fairly sudden dimming in second(s), you'll most likely see the stepping occur in camera.

    what do you think about this compared to VL300 ? LUX output will be less? +- like VL200?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 роки тому +1

      Hey hey Promikes!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      The output is probably actually closer to the VL150 because the LA200 is similar to the SL150 which was put out around the same time as the VL150. The numbering between LA and VL doesn't make sense for sure, but but based on my tests and comparing it to older lights the VL should be more or less using the same chip as the SL. So I think the VL200 may actually be slightly brighter than the LA200. Hope this makes sense.

    How can be the Output with 230W
    The same like a sl150 with 150W ??

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Рік тому +1

      Hey hey whoiam!
      I honestly do not know, I'm purely going off of my test bench results. My guess is companies always futz around with the numbers. A 100w COB chip techcnially will need around 130-140w to operate. So some companies will go ahead and say they have a 130w COB LED. They aren't lying, but they aren't being truthful either.

      For studio work, the SL150bi. For traveling and out on the field, the LA 200bi. The main difference between the two is size and that the LA uses the new smartphone app and the SL can't.
