Gareth Edwards was on set as director for all of Rogue One's reshoots. It has been confirmed by multiple sources including Edwards himself and cinematographer Greg Fraser. Gilroy wrote the reshoots, and was in the room, and oversaw the edit with his brother editing.

Wow its like the Ship of Theseus problem. How much of a film can you change before you just call it a whole other film?
I'm pretty sure the reshoots were 22 days, not 3 months. They started in June and ended before Comic Con in mid-July.

Rogue One cast continued to talk about Gareth Edwards cause he never left the film. He stayed on for the reshoots. He was still there, still present.
Not the first time a director got removed from a movie project and won't be the last.

I am so lost at this point, the film had re-shoots, but why blame the Director and not the Writers! Disney has some serious problems with continuity by having so many different directors trying to tell a cohesive story, which is why Phase 5 fell totally apart after Eternals!
Did Gareth Edward left Rogue One, though ? Tony Gilroy was apparently the big kahuna during the reshoots, but still ... Edwards apparently stayed on as a director. He even did the press tour like nothing special happened ...
Gareth played ball with the studio when it came to the reshoots so he then kept his credit as the director but they only changed the ending with Rogue One. It seems like the entire Cap 4 movie was reshot and it would make sense for a new director to get credit if they actually directed most of the film.
This has happened with Marvel before. Alan Taylor on Thor: The Dark World comes to mind.
3:40 Regarding Rogue One, even though the movie did more than a billion dollars and was pretty much well received by critics and audiences, it took 7 years for Gareth Edwards to direct another film which ended up being The Creator. The fact it took that long for him to return means that he wasn’t satisfied with what happened. He was pretty much in director jail.
Didn't the movie tombstone do the samething,found out years later that Kurt Russel actually had to direct the rest of the film when the original director was fired.
Kevin Jarre (also the writer) was fired early into filming, and replaced by George Cosmatos, with HEAVY input by Kurt Russell (he wrote the shot list he expected Cosmatos to complete every day)

I am not sure about the Director having Covid but being in the medical industry I have seen patients had Covid for like half a year just couldn’t get a negative result
It's worth noting that Marvel Studios brought all the directors for each of the films they covered at their Hall H presentation at Comic-Con this year (even the two new Avengers films)...well, every film except one: "Captain America: Brave New World." It's conceivable Julius Onah couldn't make it to the presentation, or his absence just gives more credence to the possibility that he was removed from the film.
3 to 4 months is a whole new movie. So the reshoots make the story believable

The heck you talking about? The Russos have NOTHING to do with Captain America Brave New World. They're only working on the next 2 Avengers films.

meaning its very possible that if the orignal director took a backseat, the russos stepped in to make some needed changes

Given the number of reshoots that were reported, it kind of falls in line with the possibility. Especially if it's costing the production more money. It would be a lot easier to cut ties with a no-name director and fabricate a story, than it would be with an A-list director. So to that, I wouldn't hold it past me that those rumors were true.
They really need to make this movie good. They can’t afford not to.
People complaining about Steve Rogers not being in it have not thought that maybe End game leaving on top was the best thing for the character. Thor could have ended after end game and would have always been seen as one of the top 3 big money makers but instead he did Thor 4 and it hurt his reputation and legacy.
Let Steve Rogers keep his legacy on top, he was in 8 movies over almost a decade. Give Sam a movie. If they brought Steve Rogers back and the movie flopped it would ruin his whole legacy.
And Chris has said himself that it is hard as hell to keep up his physique, unlike with Iron Man, people expect Captain America to have muscles. Chris has said that he would not come back as Captain America, it would have to be something else because you always want to leave the audience wanting more. So the fact that we love Steve so much means they did their job. Who’s super excited for a Thor 5 movie now? Just give Sam a chance.
Budget must be insane
I have a feeling reshoots usually entail narrative changes that involve not pissing off foreign markets, certain religious groups, or narrative changes that ruin the film in the long run.

I was thinking the same thing. Same with Johnathan Majors. Where on one hand Kang wasn’t making it as the next big bad villain on screen, I still find it rather unfair that he quickly gets cut from everything while someone like Ezra Miller who has way more controversial situations gets away with it. Same with me it’s just an observation because maybe there’s more to it but still doesn’t look good.

Don’t see any indication that the director didn’t handle the reshoots? This isn’t like Z, if they decide to change direction for the universe it makes sense to change aspects of the movie. Plus they know this is Sam’s first movie and I’m sure they want to give it their best

Question is for the reshoots, was it due to the script not working (then why fire the director?) Or was the script mostly working and the direction of the script bad? AKA was this a R1 where the final act wasn't working they rewrote it and refilmed it or was it a solo where the directors went rogue?
Reshoots were prompted by negative test scores. The action scenes had to be done over. So I am guessing that the director doesn't have experience in this field.
Didn't they also replace the original writer who wrote the Falcon & Winter Soldier and was supposed to write Cap 4?

Marvel changed the entire movie after it got shot and half the reason why there was a character or was basically Miss Israel and a lot of the movie involved war storyline involving Israel. Guy was given a huge tough task and probably got stressed out, took his check and bounced. His contract was already obliged

Most definitely. Rogue One was significantly reshot and story reworked by Tony Gilroy. It’s the reason why Tony went on to make Andor.
Difference would be I don't think Gareth Edwards was able to return for those reshoots. Solo the directors went off script.

Not a total shock... Kinda important for Sam that this works out Ok... Dude has to fill Steve's shoes and he is very physically different. Can see the identity of Sam being pushed to hard by Julius and no doubt being an issue for the film.

Julius was never an exciting choice as director. His track record always had me worried and this movie is crucial in what comes next (sam as leader, where were headed with the avengers.)

The removal of Bob chapek. Bob Iger gave Kevin feige full control over everything Marvel
3 yrs ago when Bob Chapek became CEO he inserted a management level of people who were NON creatives that the Studio heads had to report to. So Kevin didn't have as much power as he did from 08-2019. He used to report directly to Iger and before that he reported to Alan Horn but he didn't have anyone dictating how much content to produce and how regularly to produce it back then. Now that Chapek is out Iger has stepped back in temporarily and he's given Kevin back the control he used to have
ChapeK tried to clean up that shit mess of a company and was used as a public scapegoat. He was overruled at every turn by the committee and then blamed publicly for all of Disneys terrible decisions.

I just can't see sam as captain america. Will he get a super soldier serum? Because a regular human in a wing suit doesn't really fit my image of captain america. Especially if he's fighting red hulk like someone please tell me how that is possible

this is very irresponsible and i have to doubt all your sources. i know the director personally and i can report that he’s not fired and the studio is pleased with the current state of the film.
It would have saved them money to have WB’d this project and moved on to a different project. Now this movie is likely going to need to make $1 billion just to break even, and this is no Deadpool & Wolverine. Plus, the public likely won’t go see a Captain America movie without Steve Rogers.

Heyyy, Cloverfield Paradox was pretty good! I've watched it at least 3 Times, guess you have to be a film of the Cloverfield Series to appreciate it?!
Let's not put all the blame on the director. What about the script writers?!?! You can't shoot a movie without a script. That's one of the main reasons why these newest movies have been lacking and the gender and race swapping. They need to hire writers and directors who understand and know the source material. Just imagine if Eternals was made by a comic nerd who knew the source material. That movie could've been way better if it was closer to the comics.
its not that hard! they are trippin! cap should have stay with the avengers he became the leader after 4 issues in anyway, his self dealing with a sudden change of life and decade made him who he is. they could have carry that on even going back to the past he would have learn not even time is effected by the super solider serum it slows his aging! Feels like this is damage control with the re-shoots and with the add of Esposito, it feels like it’s a an added character to just drive the audience to watch this movie

This multiverse is a mess and the Russo brothers can just do that much anyway so they’d better quickly have a good story with Downey for Doom and Secret Wars

That sounds more realistic.
Also the reports about the budget getting close to like 400mil but THR stated that Cap 4 will cost less than the Marvels which cost like 300 mil

It's so ironic, but the reason that Julius Onah isn't a good director for Captain America, is that he doesn't really understand America.
He is an immigrant - who doesn't really understand the African American experience which is what this Sam Wilson film should be about.
So he's eventually let the film become about - nothing. Red Hulks and lizard people fighting over unobtanium left behind on earth by space gods......is nothing.
Winter Soldier was about the security apparatus of the United States run amok.
Civil War set national security against civil liberty.
Both were highly subversive and *brilliant.*

Director is the filmmaker and ultimately responsible. If the writer doesn't match the directors vision then the director can have them replaced.
A good example of this is with Blade, where an actor in this case, Mehershala Ali isn't having any of the Disney's : _please can we just make cartoons with action figures that make money while avoiding having anything to say?_ - agenda.
