She’s very light with the low notes, not doing the big gear shift, and it’s quite beautiful. How I wish she could have continued on longer in this way. 😔 💗
She did! In 1977, Her voice almost got back to full glory! I hate it when people think that Maria fade away in silence and solitude. She was working on a big comeback for her public caro. ua-cam.com/users/shortsDdxjVg-IljQ
Her voice had much improved by the end of this tour. Listen to the London version of this aria and compare the voice. Such emotion. No one since has put this much of themselves into their art. Bellisimo La Divina Callas.
She did it at the end of the concert as an encore. She was a dying woman. It’s no wonder it wasn’t up to her standard of thirty years previously. I used to run for a bus once!
Imagin what she would have evolved into if the world had been kinder to her talent! Dammit man i understand Divas because people definitely dnt deserve the gift of miracle. Wow Callas wow
I've always felt that if Madame Callas had continued her career after 1965 and her health had been better she could have had another career as a Coloratura. After all, what's a beautiful voice without the acting ability and to immerse yourself into the character. She did more with her facial expressions and hand gestures than others who could hit multiple high C's.
She was a coloratura??? She performed many coloratura roles throughout her career - Rosina, Anna Bolena, Norma, Medee, Lady Macbeth, Elvira, Amina, Lucia. What's your point?
@@jonbaum actually this performance proves that she could still sing soprano notes, and even at this stage of her life she was a definition of a great soprano
Amazing how she found this new placement for her voice. Must have been a lot of work! Improved much more from her 1973 London recital. She almost had her full glory back in her final 1977 recording!
What did the interviewer mean by saying that she lost her voice?! Her voice was amazing even then! And even if she would've lost it - does one say it to her face like that and in a public interview? Did he want to destroy her career with his wisdom? Did he manage to destroy it?! No! She is greater now than ever. What kind of a trace did this man leave in the world - I mean I saw him now and it's enough! And about her temper, one has to see her singing and then they understand what she means by needing to have a temper. She left after her not only recordings of her Divine voice, but a trace of an everlasting strong and subtle perfume, that only the Divine have.
Robert Sutherland (accompaniest), The Times 2 November 2023: "..the one I'd take is her last encore in Sapporo." [The last notes she would sing in public.] "She was very nearly back to her former self again."
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia i think she do yells only here and screams on high notes. Very very hard. Sorry, but it seems, that she is not in voice totally.
I think she improved over the tour-not hugely but a little bit for sure. I think after this tour the bases of her voice were there but after this tour, she improved a lot as you can hear in her last recording from 1977.
0:47 screaming. She is not so far goes from her early voice, but she just lost some colour and power, manner the same, she stressed in soprano tessitura and screaming, thats a reality. She was a mezzo
That was her last performance. Her inner organs were collapsing. She did it to raise money for De Luca who’s daughter needed cancer treatment. Nevertheless I prefer Callas on her worst day to the others on their best!
I think she was a soprano (however this aria is more of a mezzo tessitura), but no coloratura at all. And singing roles like Donizetti, Wagner, Verdi at such a young age with no logical order and not based on improvement of an instrument could do incredible damages on the chords, that is why singers in the past often lost their voice after 10 years of singing. Callas believed that she could sing anything (stupid diva attitude) because she had a hell of a range and power but definitely sang lot of roles too early and gave no time to rest her voice.
@@davidmuller9938 The repeated high Ab's can be a bit tiring for a mezzo. They can probably do it because the aria isn't long, but it's ultimately a soprano aria.
Grande ,grandissimo e unico soprano del xx secolo
Still this endless breath ... And vocally in better shape than at any other point of her last tour. These were her last appearances in public!
Única, de comienzo a fin. ❤❤❤
Bravo Maria! Sounds like she was getting back her amazing soprano voice what she had before the end of 50s.
This performance of O Mio Babbino Caro is so much better than her London Recital. Thank goodness!
Así es.

Such a divine experience listening to this...Truly, THE LA DIVINA!
A perfect rendition full of deeply felt emotion
A true testament to La Divina's art
Face expression and acting according to the lyrics. Wonderdul ♥

Beatiful, though her voice was only a shade of her prime.
I think she sounds better than you did. If she had done this with a full orchestra, it would be comparable to her best work.
Is it her last performance?
