    the silenced gun effect in dr.no sounds much more accurate than the newer laser kind of sound in modern films

    • @DutchBondFan
      @DutchBondFan  6 років тому +15

      I guess audiences nowadays (including me) identify that laser kind of sound more as a sound effect for a silencer! I have no knowledge on the sound of an actual silencer, so I take your word for it!

      No it doesn't. Not by a long shot. They both sound hilariously off to anyone that's ever used a suppressor. For one - they're still fuckin' loud. People don't understand that a gun is going to be loud regardless, all a silencer or suppressor does is take it down a notch but it's still going to be loud - people in the building are STILL going to hear it, it's not going to do ANYTHING for the actual sound of the parts of the gun itself, the slide and the other bits moving about. Even a gun that's noted for being EXCEPTIONALLY quiet - the silenced Sten guns of the Second World War - the clapping sounds of the mechanical parts was still very audible, it was just that it didn't sounds as much like a gun some people wouldn't immediately jump to that conclusion without experience. Not to mention the sound of whatever the bullet manages to hit, the sound of the expended brass hitting and rolling on the floor. If it's outside then there's still going to be an echo, even for a pistol - if it's a rifle or anything with supersonic ammunition (MOST ammunition for rifles and carbines and the like) then the very loud SNAP of the bullet breaking the sound barrier will still be heard regardless of suppressor.
      Neither the "thump" of the original nor the "Pwet!" of the modern movies sounds legitimate. Luckily, this has been changing in movies lately with some films actually using more legitimate sound effects.

    Good list. My #1 would've been Bond's electrocution of Oddjob in the gold vault in "Goldfinger." Oddjob's just spent several minutes owning him in a fistfight and even managed to duck Bond's kill shot with Oddjob's own hat. He casually goes to pull it out of the bars and use it to end Bond, when Bond dives across the floor and grabs a severed live power cable and uses it to electrify the bars killing Oddjob in a spectacular explosion of sparks, smoke and sound effects. I'm glad you included his dispatching of Emile Leopald Locke in the car at the edge of the cliff. Great moment.

      As originally written, that was SUPPOSED to be Blofeld, which is why Anya mentioned Bond being married earlier in the film. But then Kevin McClory sent a cease-and-decist order. Too bad. if they'd done that story a couple years earlier, they would have still had the rights, before they reverted to McClory.
      There's just SO MANY REASONS I rank "DIAMONDS" near the bottom of the series. Hell, about the only thing I really like about that film is the theme song!

    • @Yngvarfo
      @Yngvarfo 2 роки тому +7

      @@henrykujawa4427 - I do kinda like Wint and Kidd, despite their ludicrously inept assassination attempts against Bond. 😄
      But there's no reason to have Blofeld as an explanation for why Bond's wife was brought up. The scene was just Bond and Anya trying to one-up each other about all the personal details they each knew about the other. Mentioning Tracy fits the scene perfectly. I know that they wanted to bring Blofeld back, but I think the plot must have changed a lot since then. You couldn't just insert Blofeld in the place of Stromberg and have it work. For one thing, Blofeld was always, ultimately, after money. Stromberg was not.

    • Necros being sent flying off the plane in The Living Daylights. "What happened?" "He got the boot."
    • Max Zorin falling off the Golden Gate Bridge (AVTAK).
    • Patrice in Skyfall. It's a quick, brutal hand-to-hand fight, backlit by the neon lights.

Always loved the "And that's for 009" line.

    I did enjoy the list and you put a lot of insight into each choice. But I have to say, In my opinion, the defeat of Grant in From Russia with Love has always been my favorite Bond kill. We are shown Bond's ability to talk his way out of trouble then win a fight against a physically superior opponent. Grant even has gadgets to match Bond (his wristwatch choking wire). The sadistic Grant has bond on his knees with his hands in his pockets and a gun aimed at him and 007 still manages to get the upper hand.

    • @kickballjedi
      @kickballjedi Рік тому +1

      Love the movie, love the duel, but I have watched the sequence where Bond replaces the Bond statue 50 times and it simply impossible. It's fun and the audience knows the switch has been made as the camera pans over the hand that now has all of it's fingers. But Scaramanga has the statue in sight during the timeframe when Bond would need to sneak onto the open floor, dress into the jacket (he didn't have a jacket on), remove the statue, take its (functional?) gun, and pose as the statue. Even as a kid, that removed any immersion of that scene for me. Still love it though!

    Bond killing Dent should be number one When Brosnan kills Dr. Kaufman you don't see both actors, but when Bond kills Dent, you get to see both actors, which makes the kill more brutal

    In #1, the biggest flaw in that scene is Dryden not knowing there are no bullets in the gun the moment he picked it up. Even a novice can easily feel the weight difference if there's no magazine.

    Another one I keep forgetting about is when Bond kills Adam in Live and Let Die. That is the most ruthless Roger Moore kill in my opinion. I love how Bond is mixing up the gasoline cocktail then douses Adam in it. Then he puts Adam's stolen speedboat into full throttle and with nobody at the controls, the boat goes around in circles before Bond uses his own stolen speedboat to control Adam's boat into a tanker at which Adam and his boat are killed in a fiery explosion. What makes it even better is all this is set to an instrumental version of Live and Let Die

    12:40 Fun fact: that wasn't a Smith & Wesson but a Colt M1911. Magazine capacity: 7 (+1 in the chamber).
    Also what Bond was wielding in that scene isn't the PPK, as no silenced PPK was market-available back then.

      I commented on that as well... per how it played out, the slide was locked back after the last shot into the bed, so however the Doctor loaded it, it was effectively empty at that point... and as he throws it down, the slide is still back... but when they switch scene views, the inject a continuity error, and move the gun, and release the slide... still a great movie that gave us decades of other great movies!

    My #1 pick would have to be the "I never _miss_ " kill of Electra King; never tire of it no matter how many times I view it.
    The fact that Roger had to be (repeatedly) cajoled into kicking the car driven by Loquc reveals his limitation as Bond; even Pierce Brosnan would not have hesitated to carry out that scene.

By the way, I'm looking forward for your review of Casino Royale. At first I thought you can't be serious leaving the train fight out of the top 10. Then I watched the video and understood why, there are really many great scenes.
    Personally I would nevertheless put it in the top 10, perhaps for the Vargas kill in Thunderball.
    Still an amazing list.
    What is interesting is the correlation between the best kills and the best movies. Casino Royale and License to Kill with double entries and all the other movies mentioned aren't exactly on my worst bond list.
