This train is a "quck train" on it's way out as it does not stop on all the stations a train to Österskär normally would. 1:02 on the right we can see some museum trains outside and under tarpaulin. The wooden motorcar outside is X2p no:33 built in 1918 and ran on the line until 1975. But trains not unlike it ran up until the early 90's because the railway was intended for closure but at the last minute in the 1980's the politicians changed their mind. This had left the railway with a rolling stock mainly from the 1930's and 40's. 1:25 on the left there is a modern "train shed" in the past this is where a standard gauge track lay that connected roslagsbanan with the main railway network. The ground on the left of our train that rises like a prow was used to transfer gods from freight trains on Roslagsbanan to freight trains on the standard network in the past. But freight trains have not run on Roslagsbanan for 50-60 years. During ww2 however it was an important railway to get farm produce and firewood from Roslagen into Stockholm 2:10 passing over Värtabanan on the standard gauge network that goes from the main line at Tomteboda out to Frihamnen (Stockholm harbor). In the 1980's you could load your car on a night passenger train bound for northern Sweden at Station Värtan. 3:05 Station Universitetet a relatively new station that amalgamated two stations north and south of it, this station has access to the red line subway and buses to and from Roslagen. Everything we have seen before this station will also be closed down in the future. The Roslagsbanan is intended to be taken underground and connected to Odenplan and T-Centralen instead of Stockholm Östra. This will make it easier for passengers to take the Roslagsbanan as it's current terminus is not in the center of Stockholm. 5:20 These tunnels where built in the 1990's before that the railway went to the right and became single track to pass over the old railroad bridge. After the old railway bridge was the old station of Stocksund that until the 1960's had a small feeder line with 3 stations that went to Långängen. 8:24 Djursholms Ösby: This is where the line to Näsbypark branches off to the right, before the 1970's this is also where the Eddavägen line branched off on it's own line through Djursholm. 11:56 Roslags-Näsby this is where the line to Kårsta branches off to the left the Kårsta line was also the old mainline that connected to Uppsala Norrtälje and Hallstavik when there was a narrow gauge railway network in the whole of Roslagen.
Nice to glimpse the Villa Frescati @4:19 - filming location for SVT’s “Bäst i test” (Taskmaster) which has taught me so much about the Swedish language and humour.
There is no sound more soothing than the sound of the trains on Roslagsbanan. I love that railroad. (But the best is when they sometimes put the museumtrains on where you can stand on platforms between the old wagons. :)
Thank you Gérard! Yes, 891 mm is indeed very rare. It's a swedish narrow gauge standard based on the old swedish measurement "foot" which is not to be confused with the english foot. Here is some more info for thoose of you interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_three_foot_gauge_railways
Really interesting. The track bed is so wide which seems to be ready for a normal gauge, in fact. Probably this was the original idea, or maybe something for the future.
This railroad is planned to continue to be a narrow gauge railroad so I guess they just follow some kind of standard intended for normal gauge railroads even though it´s narrow gauge.
Everything is being built to fit standard gauge when the railway is being modernized. But there are not plans to make it standard gauge as only part of the system could easily be converted, making the railway fit for standard gauge is a relatively recent ting. The railway is getting new trains for the first time since the late 80's though.

Thank you for adding some interewting facts, much appreciated! :)
True, but the train back is a normal one.
Nostalgia. I grew up in Österskär in the 1960s and 70s. This was the lifeline, to school, work, and party. Much has changed, as can be expected.
wonderful! One of my most favorite lines in Stockholm
Thank you Erfan! :)

Just remember some earplugs... (:
Very nice, I could drive like this all day long. :)
Thank you! :)
NIce, travelled along this line a few times, so it was nice to see it from the front of the train instead of looking out the side :)
Tack
Stort tack
Tack så mycket Alexander!
Thank you very much! I was riding this train for 2 or 3 years back in 2012. It's so nice to see old good places once agian
Thank you for leaving a comment! :)
@@SwedishRailcam I can leave another one - I bearly recognized Roslags Nasby - it was completely renovated.)
@@DeLAscension Yeah, many stations look totaly different compared before they were renovated/rebuilt.
Excellent high-quality video. Interesting round-trip.
Thank you! :)
Thanks for this very interesting and well shot video . Good characterful EMU. 👍👍😊
Thank you! :)
Great video !!
Thank you Theo!
Beautiful. Nice with that old EMU at Stockholm Ö.
Thank you! :)

Kul med en ny tågfilm
Kul att du tycker det Lars-Erik! :)
This railway used to be part of a large network that connected Uppsala Stockholm Norrtälje and Gimo
Yes it was, to bad they closed down parts of it.
The first part (Upsala-Lenna Järnväg) went from Uppsala östra to Länna, and was opened in 1876.
Very good !! Loved it !
Thank you Mickey! :)

@@SwedishRailcam Thanks for information. But considering the intensive traffic to get a normal gauge could be perfect. Have a nice evening.

Thank you! :) We intend to included that too in the future.

Kinnekullebanan står högt upp på vår "Att göra"-lista :)
Only a fifth of the old tracks for Roslagsbanan are open now.
Yep, that sucks. What were politicians thinking?
Like, you could take the train to UPPSALA before. Wtf man.
@@Bregott07 you still can, you just need to switch trains a bit.
@@Stoyon you can’t, Roslagsbanan isn’t connected to the rest of the railway network (except Tub 2 at Östra)

Thank you! :)

GOOD
Thank you! :)

How big in length is the system of Stockholm's narrow guage?
According to the wiki-page its 65 kilometers long.

How fast is the train going ?
Vmax is only 80 km/h. The line is upgraded for 120 km/h for the new Stadler trains coming into service soon.

Nej tyvärr inte
Ok
@Lucas spelkanal Jaa men inventarienummer menar jag
