One of the greatest bands to come out of Canada ( is anyone "bigger" than Rush? ) and the singer has one of the best voices in Rock and Roll plus TWO of the best lead guitars period.

The live version of this song from the '78 concert is over the top intense, but I still like the studio version too for the Reprise section at the end. Great example of collaboration between all three; Gil wrote most of the main song, but Rik sang it, and wrote the reprise part. And Mike was very involved with production in this period, and I think knew better how the band should sound than some of the later producers they hired.

This was the first Triumph song I had ever heard. I was just getting into Rush. When we found out Triumph was opening for Rush, WOW! Hemispheres tour. Best concert I've ever heard and seen. Stevie Ray Vaughn live something else, but that Triumph opening for Rush was numbingly amazing. I honestly thought Rush would be out down by Triumph's opening act. Rush comes out playing ByTor etc almost 3 hours and just wow. 2 legendary Canadian bands !!!

I think your memory is playing tricks on you, Triumph have never ever supported Rush, they've never played on the same bill.

*I meant the style of early priest on Sad Wings.. & Stained Class, but it kinda made me think Freewheel Burning* *from Defenders Of The Faith. But it sounds more like Tyrant from Sad Wings Of Destiny. And Street Fighter*
*Reprise is definitely a liking to Victim Of Changes also Sad Wings Of Destiny.*

Priest showed influence from Triumph on Stained Class through Point Of Entry but Iron Maiden were the real thieves of early Triumph. Not only did they lift the amazing ending of the Reprise during Phantom Of the Opera but The Trooper is a complete ripoff of the Blinding Light Show.
What so few people realize about Triumph is that up until 1986 they were first and foremost a Metal band. Sure some of the music was not metal at all but who cares, who wants to hear only one genre all the time? Especially if the band has proved they could be eclectic at HQ level.
No human with ears can hear Triumph and conclude they are NOT Metal. Every song on their first two albums were Metal and this track - filled with Thrash Metal riffing, Speed Metal double bass percussion, Power Metal soaring vocals of high Tenor range and a face melting solo over a blistering assault of Thrash riffs - was recorded in 1975. What Metal band in 1975 was using double bass percussion like Gil Moore was? What Metal band in 1975 had a clear almost digital like texturing to the sonic production?
While the Reprise shows how vital Mike Levine was to the sound of the band - those bass licks are groovy as fuck - he also produced their 70's output and all through the 1970's Triumph was the only band to blend the metallic crunch of a Metal band with the high production standards found on more polished rock material.
Sabbath, Priest, Saxon, Riot and Motorhead was about all the Metal that was out but all of them were mired in that wet heavily reverbed sound pioneered by Black Sabbath. Triumph was the only band playing METALlic music along with the 80's quality production.
Also, is there a song during the 1970's that can compare in intensity to the masterful Rock and Roll Machine?
      ***Mic Drop***

Well Triumph borrowed from Rush. But that was the Canadian "sound" then. Along with Rush (of course), Moxy, April Wine among others. Good shit!!!
