He battled brain cancer for a year and unfortunately lost that battle December 17, 2022. Thank you all for subscribing and engaging with his content. He loved each and everyone of you. Know that he's in a better place and that these videos are the gift he's left behind. Thank you all so much for your love and support.

How on earth did I find a person 15 minutes ago, and be devastated by losing him...
Matt is a lovely human being ❤
And here I am, just having found this channel now.
@@Yesica1993and me now
I never realised before today that the channel's logo is Wilson. What a symbolic and poetic finale for such a great man. A real genuine loss. Rest in peace Matt.
I watched part one a few minutes ago, and I figured that I would enjoy part two, so I ended up here. I did not expect this news. RIP Matt, and may the wife, family, and friends all get through their loss. He lives on through his good work.
Maybe Matt's flim commentary is more of a mirror for his own spiritual beliefs. These beliefs coincide with many other people's systems. These people include the writers, directors, film crew, and actors of this film and all other media. It might be correct to state that all media is a mirror that shows us the psychology of a given culture.
Same
Same...wtf man! Now I'm all sad and shit :( His work has been brilliant.
This man worked on his passion until the end of his days here. Even with a terminal diagnosis, he created the video explaining what he loves. Matt is truly an inspiration....I'm in awe. RIP
We will miss you Matt. More than words can describe.
Just from a complete stranger to another; you have helped me really enjoy movies more and more. I now think about your interpretations and thoughts when I am watching movies.
Thank you Matt for your knowledge and kindness. Much love to you and your family.
The world lost a wonderful mind. I'm thankful for the insights he's given us.
Rest In Peace man, I look forward to seeing you with our Lord
News flash, there is no afterlife. This is it and you need to enjoy it.
@@hajime5486 @Hajime dude if he believed in it then just don't say that. If others are pushing it and he was actively against that then sure, but otherwise just respect it and honor/mourn/respect him in your own way privately or even publicly in your *own* comment, (something like "I'm sorry to hear he's gone, had an insightful point of view and seemed to be a good man, one that I looked up to/was informed/inspired by/entertained by", not religious/heavenly but honest to your beliefs, focusing on what he did during his life rather than the "afterlife"), but allow others to express kind thoughts. They aren't espousing fire and brimstone rhetoric (if so, go off king), they're displaying the harmless, positive, empathetic, humanistic aspects of religion, really just communicating their love and reverence for a good man

That's rather disingenuous, considering that it's actually theists that make positive assertions without evidence.
Friend. When I heard of your passing. I cried. I literally sat down and sobbed.
When I was at a crossing road in my life, it was one of your videos that helped comfort me and remind me how sheerly amazing God is.
I love you brother and I'm grateful for your wife and your family and knowing that I will meet you one day. Thank you for who you are and what you did for me and impact you had on the lives of others.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. May we greet Jesus together one day, my friend. :)
Matt was so prolific with his words and to express his thoughts so clearly. He was so captivating. His "No Country for Old Men" was the first video I watched and helped cement my love for film. I just learned about his passing a few minutes ago and I am so saddened. We lost an amazing human being ❤
I've never watched one of his videos until today. I am sorry for your loss, Matt really seemed like a wonderful soul.
this is so strange...just yesterday or the day before I recalled this channel, (re)watched a few videos and discovered the website. And now this.....Your videos were excellent and still are. Rest in Peace.
Rest in peace Matt 🙏🏾💙
I am so sorry to hear that he is no longer here with us. Compassion for his family. Thanks for his efforts in this to leave something for us all. Appreciate what you have today, all of it, and everyone because you and we all will lose everything in time.
Rest with Jesus my friend. You have everlasting peace now.
there is no jesus
damn brother you just go around and replying to people wishing him a peaceful rest that there's no god and they should shut up? Get some help brother holy shit what's wrong with you?
RIP brother. Thank you for leaving behind these videos. They truly are gems. Rest easy
Just finished watching this video. I'm so sad that Matt has passed on. His channel was one of my all time favourites on UA-cam. Such a beautiful communicator and an equally beautiful mind. He'll be missed, but he sure made an impact while he was here. Rest in Peace, Matt
I only found these videos yesterday, and was heartbroken to read that Matt had passed. But I’m happy that he was able to share his excellent insights, which will live on here for years to come.
Just came home and my wife is watching Castaway, then I head upstairs for a bath and see what podcasts are on UA-cam and this pops up! Incredible. Thanks for this upland, RIP.
Oh my. I am taken back so much by this. I fell in love with his videos and did not know why they ended abruptly. I am praying for your family and am so thankful for all that Matt has done to bring attention to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This channel, and Matt's gift of uncovering meaning in stories have left a lasting impression in my life. Thank you for sharing his last essay, though different, this one felt more personal and intimate...as if a friend was speaking face to face with me.
"“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’" Matthew 25:23
Oh I LAAAAAVVV that last one u sed, d passage is my favrite!!!😁❤♾❤♾❤♾
I saw this posted and thought, "Wow, maybe he's OK!?"
But no.
I will miss his content so much. Only LSOO is in the same league. All the best to Matt's family.
What is LSOO? If it’s on par I must know more.
@@austinrothjr Like Stories Of Old.
It's a Dutch guy who reviews movies, games, etc... very insightful.
Matt has been an incredible teacher and guide. We have all been blessed through his content and his message. Rest in peace Matt, you will be missed.
So sorry to hear about the Loss of Matt. His videos will live on, and know that he touched a lot of people in his time here.
Thanks for doing what you've done. You've changed the way I see things and I feel like that is such a precious gift. So sorry to hear about what you are going through. Wish you and your family the best. Merry Christmas
Matt passed this last week and is with Jesus
So I stumbled across a gold mine here on accident. I've been seeing videos on Cast Away pop up on my page recently because of Owl City's new song Kelly Time, which is about the film. Once I figured that out, I had to go watch that film again. It had been something like 10 years. But now, having seen these 2 videos, I think I have to watch it again. It's become something very special to me, as Owl City has long been my favourite music artist and means so much to me. But now having a song of his dug way deeper than I ever thought, and all from what I've found to be an amazing channel that delves into films more than most, a channel that holds the heart and soul of who seemed to be a beautiful man, I feel so much more depth to everything. All these random little coincidences have led me to this weird amalgamation. Glad to have stumbled upon these videos.
Thank you for putting some sense to this strange little journey of mine, Matt. Rest easy in Jesus.
I've not watched this yet but wanted to comment and say how thankful I am for Matt's life and his way of thinking. I only ever knew him through this channel but I've enjoyed everything he produced and I am sure he is greatly missed. I pray God is with you all at this time.
RIP MATT, Hope You Found God.
I am so deeply sorry for the loss of Matt. My condolences to all that grieve. Thank you for this analogy of this film and your talents. 🙏🙏✝️
I loved his work and will always love this channel. I'm so sorry that he's gone. It's crazy.. when I was a kid and my parents split up I watched Cast Away every day in my bedroom for 2 years straight at night to sleep. Something about the silence of it and ocean wave sounds.
RIP, Matt. You have been a huge inspiration to me and how I view media, particularly cinema. I've loved your channel for years, and although I never met you, I feel like I've lost a dear friend. You're in a better place now, embraced by our Savior.
May You Rest In Peace 🙏🏾
Rest in peace, bright mind.
It was always a pleasure whenever the algorithm brought me to these videos. RIP Matt, and thank you.
I’ve just found this channel today, I’m so sorry to hear about Matt. May he rest in peace
He would have made one heck of a movie director or movie producer. He was a thematic genius. I have a feeling UA-cam would have been just the beginning for him. Gone far to soon. You will be greatly missed.
Glad to see this man smiling and excited to tell us his story.
Very sorry for y’all’s loss. The video Matt did about No Country was profound to me…. I happened to come across it right at a point when I was wrestling with these questions quite a bit. He was very skilled at his craft.
Thank you for this video. Amazing from start to finish. Just what I was looking for.
Thank you for all your brilliant insights and videos throughout the years. Rest easy. ✝️
Watched this again today. I so appreciate Matt's take on this. Thank you 🙏
These are astounding. Thank you, brother. Peace be with you and yours.
RIP Matt
Thank you immensely for your original insight. I'm glad we got to share our love of films not just on their face but in the depths of their meaning
Wow, what a terrific layout of key elements of this movie! Sad to hear of Matt this late, I will be watching more of his work very shortly. Thank you for this video, God bless.
Rest in power Matt. These videos changed how I watch and think about movies, and the rigorous detail and consideration that goes into making them. When I watched Castaway as a kid, there was so much that I missed.
wow, thanks for part 2 (given your circumstances). i enjoy your POV and genius.
RIP Matt, you’re videos are a blessing ❤
Rest in Peace Matt. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
RIP Matt. Thank you for your work. It will continue to spread light into the world. I'm glad & grateful that you lived. Journey well, brother🙏🏾
Thank you for your work...
Many thanks for that gift.
So deeply sorry to hear about Matt's passing. I only discovered the channel a few days ago; loved how he talked about movies, the passion with which he imbued the topics he discussed. I wish his family and loved ones peace, and the quiet joy of knowing that they had him in their lives
Godspeed and Rest in Peace Matt. Thank you for your gifts of film analysis. Condolences to your family and friends.
Thank you Matt your videos have been unbelievable and I’m upset you’re gone but I’m glad your videos can keep your memory alight
My condolences. These videos meant a lot. Thanks and God bless!
Rest in peace always loved how thoughtful his channel was
Love sent to his family and close friends. Truly enjoyed his content, and his style. He will be missed by a complete stranger that only knew his videos. RIP.
This saddens me so much. I first discovered this channel with the Mad Max video. He had a gift from God to be able to communicate the deeper meanings of films to us.
Thanks! Brilliant and insightful. The work is so much richer than it first appears. Thanks for peeling back the onion.
Rest in peace, a truly beautiful mind. Thank you for everything
So sorry to hear of Matt’s passing. Truly a brilliant mind who touched many lives.
Thank you for your lovely work, it's meant a lot to me. Rest in peace
I wish I could see movies how you saw movies. You had a gift for seeing things most didn't. Thought your content was some of the best there is and always wanted more. Excited to see a new video and sad to see it's the last.
Your skills and knowledge are very appreciated Matt. Thank you for sharing it with us. I hope you can rest peacefully now.
Thank you for everything Matt, I will never stop being inspired by the thoughts and videos you shared with us, and though I'm saddened by your passing I know you are in God's embrace now. Rest in peace brother.
What an incredible video to leave to the world. Thank God for giving us Logos made flesh.
Thank you for sharing your passion and wisdom with us Matt. You are missed.
Thank you Matt. Your videos have taught me so much not about how to interpret film, but how to understand and think about all forms of media. I hope you know how much your work has done to positively affect me and others. Thank you, may you Rest In Peace.
His videos are and always will be great. Brilliant way of seeing things differently.
My condolences to his family and friends.
Hi Matt, good morning (U.K. time)
Thanks for all you do, I love movies and my introduction to you was via an article you written about Christian movies and how often they are of poor quality. I instantly gravitated towards what you had to say, 5/6 years later you are contributing to my understanding of faith and the film making process, also your life speaks of the faithfulness of God in good and hard time. Thank You.
Blessings to you and your family
I loved your videos. Seeing a new upload was always something that excited me. May you rest in peace.
Rest easy, I really enjoy your breakdowns
Matt has been a true blessing! All Glory to the Lord we both serve! Loved this project.
Brilliance. Thank you, Matt, for being a light. One of my favorite films revealed all the richer, more meaningful, and even more fortuitous for bringing to the treasure trove of work he produced through this channel. Much love to the family, thank you for sharing!
Rest in peace ✊❤ Thank you for the insight and entertainment.
Never has a youtube video made me this joyous, nor this sad. Matt, your videos shone bright. But The God Who Isn't There, not insignificantly both your first and last (a contextual 8!), was, on a personal note for me, a pair of angel wings headed north. Shine on brother.
Thanks for all your hard work Matt. You will be missed.
I just discovered this channel this morning. And am thoroughly enjoying this analysis driven by keen insight and reinforced with profound depth of understanding of mythos, fundamentals of storytelling, and genuine insight.
So awesome. It's so great to hear that all's well. I had no clue that's why there was such a gap between videos. These are so eye opening and revelling. They may be there they may not. Just the open mindedness is shocking and awe enough to grasp our full attention. Thanks for sharing and keep pushing forward.
Wish you a full and great recovery spending the rest of time with your loved ones.
So happy you’re back, and alive!
Thank you Matt.
So sorry for your loss. Matt was a gem. He will be sorely missed.
Thank you and God bless.
So glad you are alive and well and back and I love you so much logos. I haven't watch the video yet but just had to thank God for you first, my main comment is coming later.
Unfortunately, Matt has passed away. The video posted only 20 minutes before this one has his wife detailing the situation. Wishing her the best, sorry to break the news, buddy.

Thank God for you bro
God bless you and yours, Matt. You won't soon be forgotten.
thank you Matt.
I’m blown away he’s gone. This was my favorite channel. I’m at work right now I had to take a seat . It’s hard to see clearly with the news of his passing.
I’m sorry for your loss. I’m sorry for our loss. Thank you for letting us know.
I so enjoy your videos. God protect you and give you encouragement and healing.
Thanks Matt.
This is the second time I disco ver a worth follow youtuber that has passed away… Thank you Matt.
Matt your videos, particularly shaw shank redemption, had a profound effect on me. Bless your beautiful mind and soul.
Oh, no - I'm so, so sorry to hear this. Matt will always be remembered as a good, intelligent, gentle, and insightful man. God be with his family and friends.
Glad too have you back 🙏
Oh God im finding this all out now. Rest in power. That original castaway video really means a lot to me.
Thank you
Thank you Matt. You touched a lot of lives brother. I think you are brilliant my friend. I'm so sorry the world lost such a special person. I can't imagine the loss your family must feel. To be honest I have a friend named Charlotte who had two brain surgeries and I tweeted Matt maybe 6 months ago to pray for her and I never heard back from him. And Matt always answered back. Whether it was something personal or about his video on UA-cam. I feel terrible that he was struggling and I was asking him to pray for someone else. I really feel terrible. I thought he was getting better. I didn't know. I'm sorry Matt. Today you are in paradise. You truly were a good Christian. And a very genuine person. My prayers and love our with your family Matt.
Damn rip, you can tell how passionate he was about film and sharing it with all of us. Rest easy bro
