Thanks for the video. My last build was 12 years ago. Just built a new one with a b650 gaming + Wifi, Corsair Vengence 32gb 6000mhz rgb tmram and the Samsung 900pro m2 should arrive soon. Saving this video for when it arrives. Only issue I have is the ram sticks only work in slot 3 and 4 not 2 and 4 as it should. I just get a cpu/dram diagnostic led. That's a task for after windows install and some fact finding. Thanks again and any advice greatly welcomed from a seasoned builder
Always a pleasure my friend, so very happy you stopped by, trusted in me to help you, liked and subbed as well as took a moment out of your day to thank me. It means a ton to me and I am so very happy I could help you. So, what is the manufacturer and model number of your board and the RAM, did you buy them in a kit or are they purchased seperatley?
The MB and Ram were purchased separately but the sticks were in a pack. The board is a msi B650 plus wifi and the ram is Corsair Vengence 32GB 6000mhz rgb. They are listed as compatible.
Aside from this problem, I used the guide tonight am not into windows, chipset and mb drivers all done now just installing games and researching ram issues!
You can see in page 28, that it should be 2 and 4, so that is a big issue I think: download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/B650GAMINGPLUSWIFI.pdf
Make sure to update the BIOS to the latest version, there are 7 RAM issues resolved since the initial version.
If I use slot 2 and 4 or 1 and 4, the diagnostic lights for dram stay illuminated. Assuming it could be defective board/slots or cpu. Downside is I do not have spares to test which is a pain
@S1lpion installed windows with a known issue, especially memory, will pave the road for non stop issues. Have you flashed the bios to the lastest version?
Thanks!
Thank you so much my friend, this means the world to me, you rock. I hope you are doing well.
I have a problem with my MSI laptop , I have upgraded my ssd to 1t and 16gb ram and I need to install my windows again , I have a usb from Microsoft with windows but I can’t do anything to install it, idk what the problem is , if I manage to do it and select x64 it shows the screen like it’s broken , and if I select x32 it goes on but I can’t use my keyboard or mouse to hit next ? Can you help me out with this problem ?
so what is the exact model number of your laptop, it would be on the bottom of the laptop and how did you make that usb thumb drive?
8:14 what is that "AMD Overclocking" option at the bottom? Overclocking is not working with my PC and i would like to know if i can enable this option or if this would mess up anything?
So that I can help, please list the manufacturer and exact model number of the following components:
1. Motherboard - manufacturer and exact model number
2. CPU - manufacturer and exact model number
3. RAM - manufacturer and exact model number
4. Video Card - manufacturer and exact model number
5. Power supply - manufacturer and exact model number
6. Monitor - manufacturer and exact model number
Redundant I know, but many people forget to enter manufacturer and exact model number
7. Do you have ALL of the PCIE connections plugged in, and not daisy chained or pigtailed, each coming directly from the power supply?
8. Are you running through HDMI, DP, DVI, VGA, any adapters?
9. Is UEFI or Legacy Setup in the BIOS?
10. What slots do you have your RAM installed in?
11.Do you have CSM Enabled or Disabled in the BIOS
11. Installed latest supported chipset driver?
12. Have you disabled Fast Boot within Windows?

4. MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Gaming X NV Edition 8GB
5. Corsair CX650 ATX 650W
6. Sony Bravia KDL-49WE665
7. I have everything Plugged in
8. HDMI plugged into the Graphics Card, not the Motherboard
9. UEFI
10. A2 and B2
11. I think disabled? I followed the exact same settings you did in your video, did not change anything else except for XMP and DRAM Frequency
12. latest driver installed yes
13. Fast Boot is enabled
Thank you very much for offering to help. Problem is, when i change the DRAM Frequency in the Bios to 4000MHz, the PC just keeps crashing, when i change it to something like 3600MHz, The PC starts, but Windows keeps failing to load and i keep getting blue screens, then i lower it to 3200MHz and everything boots up fine but when i run a game or a benchmark everything crashes and i get a blue screen, I lower it to a bit lower than 3200MHz and now only the game keeps crashing, not the whole PC. did i just pay alot of money for this fast RAM for absolutely no reason? :,)
Well, the overclocking in this case would be for the graphics card, an AMD card, you have an NVIDIA card. For you, you can't just overclock anything and expect it to work, you need to spend hours tweaking and tuner, playing with voltages and such, slowly bumping up the speed 5mhz at a time, and there is no guarantee at all that you will be able to get a 400mhz overclock. Go in your BIOS, go to the help section in easy mode then press F6 to load Optimized Defaults, save and exit, and go back in the BIOS, load XMP. Dont play with anything else, voltage or speed and see what that says. Also, what BIOS version are you on?
@@ThisBytesForYou ok so, i am on BIOS version E7C56AMS.AH0, i just followed the steps you said and it still seems to be a problem. How would i know where to start and what to do exactly with this hours long tweaking you mentioned until i get some acceptable results?
I can't find that BIOS, is this the FULL model name of your board: MSI B550-A PRO, it is, I can't help you since I can't find that board
Very helpful video! Is it safer to update bios before building system?
Happy you found it beneficial. I can't really give you a straight forward answer on that.
Updating the BIOS can be beneficial in most situations, to resolve security vulnerabilities, fix hardware/firmware bugs, add compatibility to new components, or if there’s a major system enhancement update available.
If you’re building a new system and the motherboard may not recognize the newer CPU, updating the BIOS before installing the operating system could be necessary. For example, if you’re using a newer AMD or Intel CPU with an older motherboard, you might need to update the BIOS for the motherboard to recognize the CPU.
Updating the BIOS does come with some risks. If the update process is interrupted, for instance, due to a power outage or incorrectly installed hardware it could potentially render the motherboard unusable. Therefore, it’s crucial to ensure a stable power connection or backup during the update process and of course that everything has been installed correctly.
In conclusion, whether it’s safer to update the BIOS before building the system depends on the specific components you’re using and the current version of the BIOS. Again, its hard to answer that question with a before or after.
@@ThisBytesForYou So for a 7800x3d and an msi x670E tomahawk or asus rog strix b650E-f that i m thinking is it ok either way?Ty for answering!
I would say the X670E, not because its MSI vs Asus but for a few reasons.
The X670E chipset offers more PCIe lanes for high-speed devices such as NVMe SSDs and multiple GPUs, more overclocking support, and possibly more USB and SATA ports.
The B650E-F chipset would likely be more modest in terms of features, possibly offering fewer PCIe lanes, limited overclocking support, and fewer USB and SATA ports compared to the X670E but it really depends on your use. What will you be using this system for?
@@ThisBytesForYou I usually play mmorgs and few AAA games also watching movies from streaming sites also youtube so pretty simple use.... a 4070 super is my choice for gpu.So 7800x3d---4070S---x670E my system will be.So now that u know my components should i flash my bios before even insert my cpu inside my mobo or flash after posting like u did in ur video?
ty again for ur time!
I usually do it this way, but as BIOS' come out, I flash to get all of the latest features and protection and performance, it isn't needed, but neither is stability, performance and protection, I prefer it, so pick your poison ;), personally I would go with the x670E.... actually, I will be updating VERY soon... Not sure what to get, maybe the new AMD processors coming out, not sure.
When i set dram frequency to auto it sets it to 4800 where mine is 6000, should i set it to 6000 manually?
don't set auto, set XMP and dont touch anything else
For chipset if its intel, do we download auto detect chipset driver for intel or we download it from bios?
For Intel, you will need to get that from the motherboard manufacturers website, Intel since they don't make boards anymore they dont make it easy, but no,,,,,,,, you would not auto detect and you dont download drivers from a BIOS, not sure I understand what you mean there
@@ThisBytesForYou I meant Intel Driver & Support Assistant, I thought it detects latest chipset driver and downloads them but I got my answer thank you !
You know, the Intel Driver and Support Assistant is nice,... but it has issues, best to get it directly from the board support site.
@@ThisBytesForYou To be honest i blindly copy whatever you do and i have never regretted that keep being you best tech guy on youtube!

When i save the profile and everything is set then it reboots to a small image “msi MAG” logo and stops there without starting the installer, am i doing something wrong?

Hey there. since i have windows 11 on my pc i cant enter the bios on my pc. do you know how to install the bios without entering the bios?
Why can't you enter the bios?
I cant exactly Tell, but when i press f12 to enter it, im getting a black screen and nothing happents
What motherboard and manufacturer are you using? Sorry, I didn't see this reply?
Would you recommend updating the BIOS regularly, even if there are no problems? I built my computer a few months ago - with the help of your videos 🙂👍🏼 - and installed the latest BIOS at that time. The computer is running fine so far.
I was a product development engineer, I got stuff before customers would see it, I liked to find broken stuff and fix it for manufacturers, so I would test BIOS', I like to find broken stuff. That being said, I like to be on the latest and greatest. But as a customer, you have to plan it out. Look at the version you have now, then go to the boards support site and see what the latest version is and see how many BIOS versions are between yours and that version and see what has been fixed between those. If you wouldn't mind, I would like to help what is the manufacturer and model number of your board?
You can find it using CPU-Z, download it and run it, then click on the Mainboard tab and you can get that there. Also, you will see BIOS there as well, tell me what it says under version and date just below that.
you may not know what is broke, reading the descriptions of each bios will tell you what is broken and what is fixed.
@@dreadtrain2846 exploits are discovered, performance improved, sure no problems... yet. Doesn't hurt to look at what is available and based on what it says, update or not, did you read my reply to him or to you and understand what I said?
@@ThisBytesForYou You’re correct it never hurts to check out what a new bios offers vs your current one. Some bios builds do have hidden exploits that are later fixed. Also while there are no issues with someone’s current bios, it’s always good to update as there may be better compatibility/performance fixes possibly not listed.😎
@@Zaphran-qv5jy That's just my opinion, there is nothing wrong with using what is working, but sometimes you are leaving performance on the table, I prefer not to wonder, just update ;)
I just built my wife a ryzen 5 5600g, it posted right away (lucky me 👍) first thing I did was flash the bios it’s the first time I’ve had a new pc with such a new bios. Love the 550 board, very user friendly bios. I found the setting to let my system use 50% system ram for graphics (I used 32g 3200mhz) I’m extremely impressed with the 5600g it’s way better than I was expecting. Plan to make a video on it.
