I can't buzz 😢
I play the trumpet and I got a concert tomorrow that I have to perform, help ;-;
thx
I always wanted to play trumpet when I was young but my mom had me do flute for band instead...now years later I want to give it a proper go. your videos are by far the most helpful I've seen, there's a lot of technical advice that others just don't give. thank you!
I'm currently in middle school band, and I've been playing the flute for 1 and a half years and I still strongly dislike it, I'm going to try to switch to trumpet soon!
I was made to play flute when I really wanted to play trumpet! I'm now 45 and play cornet in 2 brass bands and I love it. Never had the passion for the flute although it did teach me to read music
My buzz sounds like a fart and i don’t know what im doing wrong
duropot the only way I can help you is to hear you buzz. Reach out to me thru one of my social media accounts and I’ll be able to give you some helpful feedback
GamingwithJamie PW your opening is too big. That’s why you’re getting only air. in the video i recommend that you try bringing the middle of your lips together slowly so you can find where your lips buzz. Check it out 1:02
The Black Trumpeter when i do this it makes a fart sound
Kyle Gildner good! It’s a start. Your lips might be too puckered
Your'e not saying "mmm", dudes. It's the first step of forming the embouchure.
I sound like a dying elephant and no matter how hard I adjust, it still sounds like a dying elephant
How about now
now?
what about now?
Same☠️
I've been struggling with my buzz since I got my pTrumpet 4 days ago. So far, this has been the most helpful video out there. Thanks man!
Hi Aaron! I've been loving all of your tutorials. I was wondering if you had any videos that described the basics of tonguing / articulation? I've always found it difficult. Thank you so much!!
Great instruction. I’m actually learning how to blow a conch shell so this helps. It’s blown the same way you blow a trumpet or horn. Thanks for the info! Much appreciated!!
RehanaF13 same here this is so helpful
I play clarinet and trumpet in my school band, and this helped me with both surprisingly!
That’s awesome! Glad it helped you as well
Thanks for watching! How important do you think lip buzzing is? Tell me why you think it's necessary or not in the comment section below.
Štäÿ•äłïvë • Have tried the tips I give in this video? If you have, then let me know so I can help you further so kids stop picking on you. There is a way to play trumpet without having to buzz your lips though.
@@TheBlackTrumpeter help meh :< lol
This was by FAR the easiest to understand explaination I've been given!!! My buzzing sounds great
Dope! So glad you have it now
Thanks you help me consistently buzz im new to playing instruments and this is my first year in middle school in also new to trumpet and have been struggling but your videos help a lot thanks
Happy to help!
Thank you for the tutorial, It was very helpful. I was watching because I play Trumpet in my 6th grade band. You have a new subscriber.
Thanks for the help! I’m a beginner trombone player and I am struggling to buzz. This helped me a lot!!
How was it ?
Thank god for you my god I’m subscribing I just got my trumpet from school and you will not believe how much you helped me 🙏🏻
Thanks for the info, it really think it is going to help. I stopped playing for a year and lost almost everything I knew about playing on trumpet and now whenever I try too hard to play or try to hit anything above a C5 I just end up blowing air through the mouthpiece instead of buzzing I don't know how it started, and I just can't find a way to fix, it I really hope these tips will help.
EDIT: Thank you so much! These tips really really helped, I'm back to playing how I used to a year ago! I can explain just how useful they were! Thanks a million!
My son has been trying to do learn this for WEEKS. Now he can do it after watching once! Thanks! :)
Thank you so much! I’m in a trumpet class at my school and I was the worst but because of this video I’m doing great! Thank you so much! You helped me a lot!
Thank you so much! You get a subscriber
Ty that’s awesome! 👍🏾😄 So glad i could help. What piece of info from this video helped you the most?
Way to toot your own horn!
@@DexterHaven I'm sure he's generating a lot of buzz with his newfound success
Thanks for your clear explanations! Who knew it could be so hard just to get a sound...
Thank you so much. The tips from this video were very helpful. Can't make the buzz sound yet but before i had no idea how to position my lips. Thank you.
You’re welcome Chris! If you need additional help...I can give you a lesson. The first one is free...you can sign up using this link: lessonswithaaron.as.me/
I enjoy your videos! A short, to the point, no nonsense approach. I like lip buzzing for two reasons, one, as an isometric exercise, and two, to refocus my embouchure when things start to "get away" from the most efficient position for me. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks again!
Thanks Jeff! When you lip buzz to bring things back into focus what's your approach?
I "free" buzz (like you demonstrated in the video), place the mouthpiece as I'm buzzing, then relax my lips to open the sound. I assume this is close to optimal for me and then go from there.
I'm with Jeff Lewis on this - short and to the point. I appreciate that.
I'm so glad I found your channel!! I'm in the American Legion honor guard, and I'm trying my best to learn taps on the bugle. They have me shooting a weapon and playing the bugle, but I'm having to use a bugle with a recording in it, and I'm not satisfied doing that
omg this is the one tutorial that so clear to me, I have trouble in buzzing the trumpet correctly, I've been practicing for about 7 days and sometime I can buzz it and sometime I can't, and yes its my embouchure that give me a hard time to play the trumpet, thank you so much sir
Good tutorial as always Aaron. Free lip buzzing, perhaps second only to mouthpiece buzzing, appear the most controversial topic in brass playing among teachers and students. Certainly it is up to the individual to determine if buzzing the lips is a help or hindrance in their playing performance and maintenance. Do you have any suggestions about how much time (percentage wise) in daily practice routines should be devoted to free lip buzzing? Some pro players buzz frequently when driving the car etc as a way of maintaining embouchure strength. Others are absolutely opposed to any free lip buzzing and say it creates too much tension and stiffness in the lips. Be keen to hear your thoughts on how much, how often etc.
I recently just got a trumpet for my band class and this video really did help me thank you black trumpeter
That’s great! So glad it helped Anaya😄 why did you choose the trumpet? Do you like it so far?
I’m unsure on whether you have to apply the pitch as if you were humming or if that high pitched buzzing note comes from just blowing normally with the correct embouchure. My lips are vibrating however they don’t have any kind of pitch, is that a problem? (I might be super late to this video but I noticed you were kindly helping everyone in the comments so I thought I’d give it a shot!)
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful but can you make a video that shows all notes like low c and high g because a lot of students are struggling on making high and low notes. If you don't mind making a video about all notes.
thanks for the video! i have been playing trumpet for a few years and realized i didnt sound to great, so i went back to the basics
its a great way to practice to practice your lips its really helpful and teaches me alot
Logan The minigamer true! It helps me focus my sound and my air efficiency... especially when I had a long session of playing from the day/night before.
always good to look back on the fundamentals! Thank Aaron!
You’re welcome.
Priceless informations! Thanks!
I mean, this was like three years ago so hopefully, you'll be able to respond - but I've been playing the trumpet for a while now and I can still buzz without a mouthpiece. The only thing bothering me is that I'm a bit shaky when I buzz. I have braces so I don't know if that hinders anything, but I feel like my lips aren't strong enough to stabilize the air going out and it just kind of 'shotgun's out lol. When this happens, all I do is try to tighten my lips together, but it prevents me from being able to hit low notes AND high notes so my range is limited. Every time I try to hit high notes then transition into a low note, the melody just cracks into another note. Not to mention, I need to water my lips every time I try to buzz. I don't know if it's just my lips or the shape of my aperture, but I honestly don't know what to do. I'll try to play around with lip positioning. I also forgot to mention that every time I play, pockets of air slowly expand in front of my mouth so it makes it harder to buzz.
ahhh thank you for this!!
i played trumpet all throughout middle and high school but i just suddenly dropped it after that. im picking it back up now and my technique is awful so i'm just going back to the basics to review some things
Excellent tutorials! Thanks for your great work!
Thank you so much!
You are such I big help I'm in mariachi and I'm trying to switch my instrument to trumpet! Thank you so much!
I play trombone but I'm currently learning how to play and teach trumpet. These tips are so helpful thank you.
I'm waiting for my bugle to arrive and this video is superb in getting me started. Well done!!!!
Awesome video! Really helped me nail my embouchure! Thanks dude
I got a big problem with my sound. But you learnt me how to improve it. Thank you very much :D
I'm glad I could help you with that! You're welcome!
This was a fantastic video! Thanks so much for uploading.

Hey there! I'm wondering mouthpiece size you use! Many thanks and respect.
you helped so much ♡ thank you
Wow! That actually helped me a little bit! Been told, that can help with Ocarina as well!
That helped! Thank you 🙏🏼
thank you soo mucchhh i really needed this 🥺🥺
Thank you for teacking me to buzz my lips, i needed to learn how for my project for school!
You’re welcome! What was the project on?
Short and sweet. Thanks!
That was my goal with this video. No long drawn-out lectures. You're welcome!
Thank you for great video! What do you think of Yamaha trumpets? Are they good for beginners?
tasty salad you’re welcome! Yamaha is a great brand for all levels. Highly recommend them, Bach and Schilke
Thank you! This works so much better than other vids i saw :)
Glad you found something that worked for you 😄
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome!
It helped me soooooooooo much I love this channel
THANK YOU VERY MUCH 🙏
Thank you ... made it very easy to get the buzz!
Great! My goal is to try to make trumpet as simple as possible so it can be accessible to everyone.
Can you make a viedo of how to buzz your lips to play high notes for a advanced trumpet that would be helpful 4 me
You're the best you helped me improve my trumpet sound Amazingly! Keep it up I subbed Too!
I’ve been playing for 4 years now and I still can’t buzz without a mouthpiece
Nathan same bruh LOL
I’ve been nearly 6 years and I’m right there with you
Same dude.
Same
4 videos and you explained it and I finally got it thx
That’s great Courtney! 👍🏾😄
I'm pretty late but I'm learning the bugle for fun and it's so much fun. Thank you so much man!
That’s so cool! Glad I could help get you started or help you further. What inspired you to play the bugle?
Once again, thank you. I heard my band teacher playing the trumpet, and there's a certain "feeling" you get from hearing brass instruments. I don't know how to put it, but I love it! I feel like the bugle is a nice entry level instrument to the amazing world of brass instruments.
Thank you so so much! I have never been able to buzz my lips until now
Great tip thanks I really needed to know that
No problem!
Nicely!
Really really useful video! Thanks
Excellent! You're welcome
How can I make siren sound? Don't know what to do to change the mouthpiece pitch. I'd appreciate your answer. Thanks.
Great ! merci bcp
Hey :)
What size jet tone do you use? I have big lips too.
Best trumpet buzz video I've found. Most are too long and complicated.
Thanks 👍
Yes !!!
I have a tuba, I know you give trumpet tips, but could you tell me a good method? a study book?...
Arbans method book! 😄👌🏾
Precious video, thanks
it worked also for my new and completely different musical instrument, a cornet ;)
that was very good
Hi, I've got the problem that my lower lip is tucking and kind of getting into mouth, so the "m" disapears. I'm fighting with it but it seems quite impossible. The lower lip is going back gradually when I'm going higher and it completely tuck on the high C. What should I do? Is it possible to train it out?
(sorry for my English)
It helps me men.. wow thank you pretty cool 😎
If I learned to play the trumpet without buzzing, only using airflow for producing sound. What should I do? I notice I have the most round tone of the whole section that only uses buzzing but I get into trouble when playing without pressure in the high register.
I've been playing since I was 10 and I'm 16 now, but I had a trumpet at my house ever since I was 3 and it always interested me so I learned how buzz immediately. I wish I would've taken lessons then... I can't imagine how good I could've been by now. I'm here because I have a blister on my lip from playing really high for hours(like above the staff). Is this dangerous?
Good video
Thanks you really helped me
You're welcome! How's trumpet going so far?
This helped me alot im in bamd in school amd i choose the Trumlet as my instrument because at first i was terrible but im better now thank you
Fracsisco Pena You're welcome! I'm glad I could help you. How many days per week do you have band class?
I've moved from 5 years on sax to almost to months on baritone I practice a hour a day how many days should it take me to be good on baritone
How do you free buzz on a high pitch like the one in the video? I used to play trombone and can buzz the pitch an octaver lower but no where near your pitch. Does it just come with practice and heightening your range?
I do with fast airstream and high tongue arch...."ee" like Pizza. But yes it does come with experimenting and practice. Hope this quick tip helps.
Hi, I'm unable to buzz my lips but am able to play with a mouthpiece and the horn consistently (as consistently as a beginner). Is this a problem? Is lip buzzing a must?
I can do it but after awhile it starts to sound airy again?
Hey this really helped by buzzing. But is that google classroom still available?
Hi Aaron I am starting my grandson on trumpet lessons he’s 11 years old. I played trumpet with Tyrone Davis and was on tour with James brown and BB king. I have following you for a while now. Are you in Chicago?
Thank you for following Jerald. I’m in the Chicagoland area. Moved out of the city about 4 years ago.
i can’t keep the position of my lips the same throughout a song. any suggestions?
edit: as in it’s sliding and cracks
Thanks a lot!!!
You’re welcome! Are you picking up the trumpet for the first time?
The Black Trumpeter Yes! It’s funny because I thought you just get it and blow😂. I knew nothing about buzzing
I'm just starting Trumpet. 58 years old, I played French Horn many years ago, but always wanted to play Trumpet. Seems like buzzing is like riding a bike, I found it easy to remember. Your videos are 1st. Class and I'm subscribed. Any tips or things I need to consider as an "oldie"?
What do you want to be able to play on the trumpet?
@@TheBlackTrumpeter Not Jazz!! 😄
I'm open to everything else. I'd love to be able to play some Glenn Miller. That's the sound that got me in to brass.
As a music education major in college, I can even say I found this very useful.
That’s great! Good luck with your program. Very demanding major.
Hey when I play high notes on trumpet, I sometimes get a buzzing sound coming out one side of my lips. I told my band teacher about it and he said that I should try to keep the sides of my lips firm. I tried that but I still hear the buzz and this has been happening for a while now.
My 13 year old just got his trumpet a couple of days ago.. :) learning together, thanks for the video
Thank you I got it!!!!,👍👍👍👍👍😃😃😃😃
What can I do to prevent dizziness?
I like this guy.
Good tips
Thanks Leo! I learned these tips during my undergrad in music ed. How long have you been playing the trumpet?
Thx
I've moved from 5 years on alto sax to almost 2 months on marching baritone I practice a hour a day how many days should it take me to be good on marching baritone
What does being good on marching baritone look like for you?
@@TheBlackTrumpeter I mean how long should it take me to sound good on the marching baritone
These are great. Played coronet in junior high, now I’m 45 and starting again
谢谢!
Thank you
