She's an excellent role model, of what the right women can do.. and accomplish . When confident and ambitious! Thank you for sharing her story..
She's a very independent lady. She volunteers, works, trains and cares for dogs. Then, to boot, she's building her own log cabin/ sanctuary! Great video! We enjoyed watching how living in Alaska compares to the lower 48. Totally, night and day. 👍 God bless her!
I bought 35 acres of the south face of a mountain in southern Colorado. I started with a driveway and tearing apart a mountainside to make a flat spot. After 3 winters in a camper, I built a 32X44 metal shed on a concrete slab. I flipped 2x6's on their edge to make a raised floor, insulated it, decked it, and made a bedroom 11X16. My interior wall is anchored to the metal frame, but barely touching. The exterior walls are over a foot thick. My ceiling has almost 2 feet of insulation before reaching the metal roof. I have 4 super thermal windows facing south. When it's winter I plug the windows with 2" foam board. Let's just say I can heat this room with a candle.
I used the exact same method to create a utility room with a floor drain. My water is held high like a tower. Gravity delivers the water. I'm surrounded in standing dead pinion pines, so firewood is all around me. I'm close to the main ranch road, but nobody can even see the building from that road. My views are incredible.
My land is paid off. No banks. No payments, No worries. I often wonder why people live in cities, hate their neighbors, pay way too much, and utility bills from hell?.. In MY opinion, people have been raised to think they can't do stuff like this. That's why they end up working like slaves, but never own their own place. Dave and Brook have paved the way. I hope more people get back to basics and forego being tied to "the system". Sanity comes with a price tag. Hard work. Just use your head before using your back. Make do with what you've got. Reuse, be creative, and above all... "If you can't make more heat, make more INSULATION."
Your next project should be carving a greenhouse out of hte ground. Check outhis underground greenhouse in Nebraska for ideas. I love the idea of building into the ground because of how cool/warm it is year round.
Excellent job
Wow! What an Incredible life! She is what i would call my idol! Fending off bears, sled dog business, being a paramedic, building her home like what can she not do?!
Right?
can she cook? Lol! Awesome lady!
Me and my husband just built a 16x24 cabin i cant imagine doing that alone , Amazing job on everything 👏
43 years young! You are amazing! Love your determination! And you have 2 girls too!! ((Standing ovation!!)))
She is an inspiration for women of the world 🌍. Thank you so much Brooke for sharing this ❤. Love and light 🙏🏻 God bless .
Fascinating to see the spray foam solution! Great space in that dome! 😊
What an amazing women she is, could be your twin Brooke. So enjoyed this video. Thanks for taking me alone on this tour. 😊
Tabitha is living the dream! Goes to show you do not need a big 2400 sq. ft. home and can survive quite nicely with less. I am also a huge fan of recycling. One man's trash is another's treasure.
What inspiring women, so different from those bombarding us with slim-fit, pumped-up and dressed-up internet images!
She should be the head of the LA Fire Commission earning $770,000 a year, she is diligent, preparing, planning, and conviction to her projects. A true leader that needs to lead, and all her little charges, not only love her, but totally respect her, and take care of her like she takes care of them. This is truly a wonderful story.
My heart is with the people affected by the LA area fires. I have recieved resource orders to work in wildfire in CA, but have not yet have the opportunity to do so. When I get another chance to help their communities, I'm going to try my hardest to assist!
Thank you for taking the time to watch this video!
Wow, why LA fire ? Why not anywhere else?
Tabitha is an amazing lady! This was a great interview to learn about her and how she lives in Alaska. Thank you, Brooke!
Fantastic interview, amazing women, both of you! Thanks for sharing! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦🌲
She just broke every stereotype about women out there. I'm so impressed and of course with you as well Brooke.
Amazing video, Brooke. Tabitha is super cool and I admire her ambition. Thanks for sharing her story.
She's a real inspiration!
Nice home shes building the log cabinand taking care of those sled dogs
Thank you for viewing the video and the kind words! I try my best everyday!
Thanks Brook for letting us meet Tabitha and letting her show us around her homestead . Very encouraging to see that she herself is building a log cabin, love that she owns a sled dog business too, defiantly would be a great deal of work looking after all her dogs She is such an independent women . The dome tent was very cool to see . Such a wonderful life she has made for herself and kids , She should be proud of all her accomplishments and plans for the future around the property . I would love this , but due to poor planning for retirement I am unable . For the toilet seat id put blue foam to sit on to keep my butt warm. Interesting that she is a bear guard Yikes when it comes to grizzly. Thanks Brook, Tabitha very interesting.
Tabitha is a very knowledgeable and capable woman., wow, just wow at all that she has accomplished!!!! I am in total admiration!!!!
I'm a 71 year old man now, but I would have loved to have done something like this in my youth.
@@danadams4714 isn't it awesome that we get these short stories on video for free?
This is one part of technology I am grateful for LOL
Alaska tourism at Tabitha's--a visit I could really enjoy. Love those dogs!
Hi Brooke, Enjoyed your video very much. You younger women are so inspiring 😊. I wanted to comment on the word ‘banya ‘. My husband and I were tutored in Russian for 3 years and we were privileged to visit Russia 20 years ago. ‘Banya’ is the Russian word for sauna. I’m thinking that parts of Alaska are very near Russia and the folks that have lived in those parts of Alaska were probably influenced by the Russian language and culture.❤
Thank you for sharing! The Russian influence was and is still present in Kodiak to this day. It makes sense now!
I really enjoyed this video Brooke! Also her Inuit dogs are gorgeous! I had to look up about them on the internet after watching. My daughter and I live with 9 big Great Pyrenees/Akbash livestock guardian dogs who also work together as a sled dog team on our Wyoming homestead. Everything about this video was so interesting and inspiring! Thank you and I look forward to hopefully seeing her finished cabin. So cool!
I knew a family in delta area with a dry cabin, those big garden tunnels, an out house and I can't remember if there was a well. They put the plastic water tank near the roof in one of the hightunnels and installed a shower head to it and the warmth of the tunnel kept the water warm for showers. It had enough water for the whole family, then they would just refill the water and let it warm again, especially great for summer warmth.
You know the most amazing, brave, smart & interesting people!!! This was a great video!
Tabitha is one determined lady! Her dogs are gorgeous!
Much Thanks! They are love bugs too!
She’s my neighbor too! 😁😁 very cool! I’ve always thought their dome was super cool when I ride by.
Stop by for a visit this summer!
All the doggies are so cute ❤🥰
Thank you! They love visitors! ❤️ if ever in Alaska come visit!
I'd love to know more about how you placed the log walls yourself, and also how you'll place the roof yourself! I'd love to see a video of how to do it by yourself 😊
Hello, oh boy...well when I look down at my two hands I question all of this myself as well! The logs were peeled, some by a log wizard- then it broke a second time so I just striped by hand. Then each log was cantilevered as close as I could get, then lifted very strategically into place. It helped having the window configuration that I had conjured up. I rented scaffolding to construct the ridge pole and then just shuffled the scaffolding from inside the cabin, to put up the rest of the roof! I did get some assistance with the ridge cap and some panels because I did not want to get hurt. I don't like being up so high, nervous jitters!
❤ I love your videos! I'm disabled now but I used to ride horses and camp in the mountains of Utah.. you sure take me home sometimes. 😊
What an amazing woman. I love your dome. So cozy and inviting. Thanks Brooke 😊
It is much larger on inside than it looks like on the outside❤. How much do they cost?
Does your friend have her own channel? It would be great to see it all come together 🤩.
Are you sure you two aten't cousins. She is so like you 👍😁
Blessings
Brook 🧑🌾
What a wonderful video! The two of you share the same lives, almost. Also , you have shared interests and zeal . Thanks Brooke so much. From Central Oklahoma
Wow this was a cool video 🎉. Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
That was really interesting. I am in the UK so not likely to experience this life style so I do it through you and all the wonderful people that you introduce us to. Thank you so much.
Hello, I visit with guests from all over the world on a daily basis, never say never! If you do make your way to Alaska, feel free to visit!
some of the best you tube out there!!!!!!!!.....keep it up!....love it!
What an inspiring video with two awesome, empowering young ladies!! Thank you Tabitha for the tour and thank you Brooke for doing the interview!! I can’t wait to see the follow up video!!!
Thank you for viewing and yes, Brooke is an amazing inspiration!
Praying for you and your awesome family! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your support, much appreciated 👏
Every time I think of sled dogs, I think of Balto. Loved the show!
Impressive!!! Love it!! Plus a sauna coming soon!
Hi, yes- I'm excited about the sauna too! It will be a game changer around here! Much needed :) can't wait!
What an amazing experience for anyone. Thanks 😊
Appreciate the Yukon Quest bib. I'll assume it was earned. My buddy and friend Mark Stamm has done the Quest several times. I ran dogs for 20 years, don't miss it a bit, but glad I did so when I was young. Horses are soooo much easier, just sayin.
An air exchanger unit setup is common in homes with spray foam top to bottom. There's a moist black mold film that can occur without the unit.
I,so enjoy watching your blog😊
Not sure how I feel about the dog yard …. But they do look healthy.. so I haven’t lived there so no judgment here … thanks for sharing this video…
Hello, I'm happy to share my lifestyle and everything related to dogs with guests that visit. On a daily basis, folks from all over the globe come here to interact and socialize with us. If ever in Alaska, please feel free to contact me! Thanks
You are awesome Tabitha 👌
Amazing person. I'm not surprised you know her Brooke.
This was and she was amazing. What a life, I thought the dogs and building of the cabin was very cool, but a bear guard? She's a walking book.
This was a great interview.
Maybe when I'm not working so much, I'll write some of my adventures down for my kids to remember me by :) Thanks for viewing 🙂
I enjoyed this interview. The dogs are interesting. I've read a bit about them. I'm guessing they work year round. One article I read explained that for competition a lady hooked up a 12 dog team and did a 200 mile training course to prepare for a 1500 mile race. She had 2 teams that she did this with to determine which dogs to use in the competition and which dogs pulled together best. Facinating stuff. I noticed that there was a poster for the Alaska Quest up on the wall of her home so I'm guessing she trains her dogs well. This could be a whole other interview Brooke. She is a busy lady, like you, living a different life than most of us. I guess the dogs aren't worked in the summer because of their dense coats. A veterinary told me once that a husky dog needs to run at least 25 miles a day to keep them mentally sharp and agreeable. He advised me to not get one unless I could put in the work needed for them. Anyway Brooke I hope you are able to do a repeat visit so we can learn more. I'm looking forward to your own cabin build. Blessings to you and yours from 🇨🇦 Canada.
Hey there Brooke, I worked for a log home distributor ( middle man with a cad designer). I was the one that went to sportsman shows to sell the packages. Our manufacturer was Theo at “Canadas log people “ and he knows his stuff. They used air dried full logs notched with insulation nestled in the logs placed on top of each other with NO chinking. Upon receiving the plans with an engineered stamp, Canadas log people constructed the plans, erected the structure and then brought it to the building site and erected it with our construction crew and crane. Using full logs notches with inserted insulation raised the R factor and when it settled within a year or so eliminated the annoying chinking upkeep.
Check out the structures at Treehouse log homes. They have since moved on to post and beam but the info is still on the net.
Thank you for your channel! You Rock!
Sincerely,
A sister Gen Xer
Wow whats neat lady living in Alaska,i really like her devotional story! Thanks Brooke!
Thanx 4 the video ladies! I'm offgrid right now too! I'm on the transcanada trail outside South River Ontario...love watching what others r doing on the land!
Thanks Brooke, Tabitha is lovely lady. what a cool life.
All of you homestead/off-grid-bushcrafters never cease to plow my mind up!
More power to Tabitha!
P.s. Cool beans.
Thanks for showing us around Tabitha and Brooke! Amazing what Tabitha has been able to do. I understand how frustrating it can be trying to get all the outside constructing done in the short months of an Alaskan summer. And figuring out how to earn money in a deep rural setting is quite a challenge. I hope to see updates next year! ❤
I absolutely love this! I'm a single Mom of 4 kids, my dream is to buy land and build a cabin on it. I love seeing this!
Hi, it IS possible if you put your mind to it and have inspiration to draw from. I've been living and building the dream for over 15 years now. My advice is to start small. If things seem overwhelming, just do 2 things everyday to work towards your goal. Start the process of eliminating the obstacles in your way, stay focused forward- stay positive momma!
Godbless you wonderful women...you are truley amasing
Thank you for the kind words of support, we are all amazing and capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for! Take care!
This is a great video. Tabitha is an inspiration. The 2 of you are doing it. YAY, to Girl Power!! I hope we get to see the cabin when it's finished.

Brooke I love your channel and I watch it all the time and your husband's channel and when you guys are together it's very inspiring to watch!
Thanks! You found the channel under the kennel name. I'm usually busy working, so I don't film much, will attempt to do more!
Brooke, I really enjoyed watching your video with Tabitha. If there other women you can interview plea se think about doing it. Thank you!!! ❤❤Judy❤❤

I would even consider collaboration and going to assist on another female run homestead 😉
Thank you great video. 😊❤️
Awesome video very interesting thanks for sharing
Banya is Russian or so I’ve read. Not surprised to hear it in Alaska. Loved seeing all those pups. Awesome place!
Hats off to building the cabin it is hard work!
Thank you and some days I just sit back and wonder how I'm doing any of this?! Kinda crazy!
Very interesting 🤔 content guys 👏😎.
Thanks for viewing!
Great video 📹
Thank you for sharing. That was super cool to see! Wish she had a you tube channel I would definitely subscribe and watch!❤
Hi, I do have a channel with just a few videos! I'm so busy- that I guess I just need someone to follow me around and film stuff! 😉
Hi both❤❤❤❤..Nice work...

This was a very good video Brook ! I love videos like this . THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA.......
Thank you for sharing
Awesome! That log cabin's going to be great
It's coming along nicely, Thank you!
I was woundering if she participates in sled racing. You can tell her dogs love her, they look so healthy. The life style looks fun, but I couldn't do the cold. Even when I was young, all I wanted to do is hibernate in the winter.
Hi, yes we participate in select dog sled races. We run the trails and are in it for the adventure, we are not competitive. I have helped train an Iditarod team and have had some great mentors.
Thanks Brooke, very interesting video 😊
Interesting and fun to have watched. Thanks for the tour❣️👍😍
Incredible!
So cool! ❤❤❤
I'm about halfway in. This is really fun.
So awesome! 👍😎🇨🇦✨️🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾☀️☀️
Very interesting.
Such a badass!!!!! Love it!
Fascinating!!!
Amazing!
I just love forests, fall colours, talking about witches, bears around the bonfire at night. I love it! I love wooden huts and gossip. Please reply ... I wanna talk to you
Amazing information
Very interesting❤❤❤
Very innovative.
She should get the propane camping outdoor shower. Oh no door on the outhouse😮. Yikes!
Hi, I have a portable propane hot water heater... its easier to fill that solar shower up or just use a jug of warm water. The sauna will be nice when it's done, we will just use that!
Thanks for the interesting video
Great video.
Very cool
