    The one slight concern I still have with our rotation (as great as it looks now) is with length in games. Webb is obviously a workhorse, who virtually always goes 6+ innings and very often 7+. Beyond him, though, Snell is known for not putting up a ton of innings (though his quality of innings is typically good), Harrison was on a pretty tight pitch count in both AAA and the majors last year and this is his first full MLB season, Hicks is transitioning from a bullpen role, and Winn, Cobb, and Ray will all be working back from injuries of some sort. All of those guys will have a reasonable chance of only going 5 or so innings on any given day, so the Giants will need to keep a couple of guys in the bullpen who can work multiple innings in order to bridge the gap from a short start to the Rogers brothers and Doval at the back end.

    I agree that it would be great to hang onto Bart and give him one last chance (though I still worry about the utter lack of power even during a good spring training). I just have a very hard time seeing how they'd squeeze a third catcher onto the opening day roster. Flores obviously isn't going anywhere, so that means Bart would have to replace either Fitzgerald or Slater. Optioning Fitzgerald in order to keep Bart means we'd have no depth at all for the middle infield (Flores *cannot* play 2B anymore), which seems like a really bad idea especially with a 34-year-old starting SS. If Slater starts the year on IL (or if Yaz starts the year on paternity), Bart could take that spot, but that leaves the team very thin in the outfield, and it blocks Matos from being the natural next man up in those cases.
    Plus even if they do find a roster spot for Bart...what is there for him to do? Soler means there's no ABs available at DH, and having him rotate in at C means Murphy essentially becomes a third wheel for a while. The reality of modern MLB rosters just is that it's really really hard to fit three catchers.

    They may option Bailey to work on his hitting to give Bart a chance. Slater should be DFA'd

    I think you trade Joey Bart, because he actually has trade value right now. You could get something for him. Don't just grind him into the dirt until he's at .200 for the season, he can't be sent down, and no one wants to pick him up. I _want_ Bart to do well, but why has he blown it every time he's been called up?

    I'd like to see Bart finally show some great things in the bigs, but every time they bring him back up from triple a he doesn't produce. I also want Yaz to get back to high production for the team.

    Bailey isn't going down in two months. It's now or never. If he stays on the roster, Bart is gone and unless Bailey's defence has fallen apart they're not bringing Sabol in to spell Bailey.

      In college Bart was compared to Buster Posey and Adley Ruschman. I think giving him 65+ starts would be worth it

      I’d hate to see Bart finally reach his potential with someone else. I think his spring earns him an extended look

    • @ianwestc
      @ianwestc 3 місяці тому +1

      I mean, WILL Bart reach this potential people keep saying he has? He's gotten so many chances already and he just flames out every time. If Joey had options, then maybe there would be a place. But without options, Bart has to produce, and he has to produce now.

    • @rapalbumdepot7648
      @rapalbumdepot7648 3 місяці тому

      @@ianwestc That's not the right way to look at it. The idea is that if you play a few promising rookies then like 1 or 2 will pan out and be highly cost-effective for a few years. Of course this is only possible if you give players real opportunities.

  • @kevinb3307
    @kevinb3307 3 місяці тому

    If Lee goes 0for4 or 4for4, lets not judge these players until August, its a long season. If Snell only lasts 2 innings, dont worry. If Hicks goes 8 and gives up 1 hit, dont get to excited. BB is a wierd sport, you can look like H OF FAMERS one week and garbage the next.

      He clearly changed something with his swing prior to last season, presumably in an effort to cut down on the strikeouts. The problem is that it seems to have turned him into just a weak slap hitter - all of his power-related numbers like Exit Velo., Barrel %, and Hard Hit % fell off a cliff in 2023. He did drop his K% from 39% to 24%, but his BB% also dropped a ton, and his overall hitting numbers dropped because his weaker batted balls just aren't going for hits.
