- Canon's EOS Rebel T3, at the time of the release, was the lowest-tier camera in the EOS lineup. That said, it's a capable camera that can take great photos and that is amply suitable f or any purpose. The T3 is small, light, feels great to hold, and has a pretty good sensor on it, too. This video provides an overview of the camera's interface and looks at the buttons, what they are, and discusses a bit about what they do. Video 2 is an in-depth look at how to use the camera. Video 3 explores the menu system and custom functions to look at the camera settings in detail.

From all the tutorials that I have watched on the Canon Rebel T3 camera, this by far was the best. Everything was explained in great detail. Well done
Thank you!
This is honestly so helpful, especially for beginners. Watched the entire thing, I appreciate you!!
Thank you!
Thank you so much! Been really lucky to have your tutorials available. First for my Canon A1 then this 😊
Thank you!
Thanks for this tutorial! It was very helpful!
Thank you!
Thanks for your tutorial on the T3 most helpful. The video function for me was something I've never used because of ignorance. And your right "thew" what a lot to learn about this camera, I may step up to the EOS D6 mk ? one day and you are very helpful thank you.
Thank you! The D6 is a fantastic cameras.
Great tutorial. Thanks!
Thank you!
Hey Dave, thanks for the tutorial. When I take photos, the self timer is on and I don't remember turning it on. I am not able to turn off the self timer. Please show me how.
Thank you and I can describe where to find the self-timer. It will be in the shutter drive modes and should be an option under that button.
Thank you David.
Thanks. Very helpful.
Thank you!
Is there a setting on the Canon Rebel T3 camera that would allow me to *focus on an object* that’s not at the center of the image, but rather *on the side?* For example, if we want to follow the *Rule of Thirds,* our subject will likely be located on one side of the image. However, the camera focuses on the center of the image, and I’m having trouble getting it to focus on the side. Is it possible to do change the spot where the camera focuses with the Canon Rebel T3 camera? I followed a tutorial on this topic but the person was using a different camera than me, and when I tried to do the same thing on my camera, it didn’t work. So, I would really appreciate any guidance on how to accomplish this with the Canon Rebel T3 camera, because this is one of the main things that is preventing me from getting the results that I want.
Thank you 🙏🏻
It's been a long time since I made this so I can't recall for sure, but what you're looking for is the Autofocus point setting. You'll want to manually set the AF point to where you want it to be.
exactly...I am having that issue as well. I have had to delete many good photos otherwise.
Excellent video really helpful
I HAVE THIS CAMERA. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Thank you!
Thank You Dave, very helpful video.
Thank you!
i have a problem, my camera is the same as yours but I don't have all of the same menu icons as yours. i have 2 camera options in the menu, 2 image options, 2 settings options, but no personalized settings options. and the first camera menu ends at the red eye disable icon and I am desprate to turn off the flash but I cant get that menu.please help me. also, I loved the videos. thank you so much!
Hmm. That's a stumper. And I got your message about the flash, too. Your screen grab didn't come through, but can you list the items that you have in your menu?
@@DavidHancock I just checked another comment on your video, and they had the same problem as me. basically, you have to be in some sort of manual mode (above automatic) for the settings to come up. this fixed the issue. Thank you for your time to answer though!
Darngood David, I've a question for you, because YOU are one of the best explainers of photo things.
My T3 is set to Manual with Auto ISO.
Camera shooting menu #2 is Exp. Comp./ AEB. When I press "Set" , an exposure graph appears, and I can get BRACKETING by turning the Main Dial. HOWEVER, the exposure compensation +/- icon is ghosted out, as are the directional arrows - so there's no access to exposure compensation. What's with that???????
I also have a Canon 7D Mark II, and I'm able to access BOTH bracketing AND exposure compensation, through the same proceedure.
So I'm stumped. Please provide your best unstumper thoughts - it'll be appreciated very much.
Thank you and it may be because you're in manual mode. Also, entry-level Canon cameras have different capability sets versus higher-tier cameras.
@@DavidHancock Two Canon reps just confirmed what you said, the T3 is an entry-level camera and simply was not programmed for Exposure Compensation whether in Auto ISO or not.
Not a problem, I use the T3 with my Tokina 100mm Macro lens only for macro shots, and my Canon 7D Mark II with either my 70-200 zoom or 400mm prime, or even 50mm STM 1.8, for all other tyoes of photography.
Many thanks for your CORRECT response, from this subscriber.
Good video and I am overwhelmed duhhhhhh! Will need to watch again. My main concern is when taking images of nature (trees, flowers, rocks) the center is clearly focused, but the leaves in the background are blurred. Also, if the sun is out, behind me the petals become over exposed. Thanks
Thank you! Sounds like your camera is working exactly as it should. For your question on the backgrounds, check into aperture and depth of field. For the sun overexposing images, that means you need a lower ISO, faster shutter speed, or smaller aperture. You'll get there. This is a daunting camera. Video 2 shows how to use all the different settings, if you haven't seen it, and that will help with some of the above points.
Hi! I just took some photos on my Canon Rebel T3, how do I download them to my computer or iphone?
You'll need to move them to your computer via an SD card reader. That's the fastest way. For phones, I access them via phone once I upload them to a photo service.
Is there any way we can connect the camera to our Wi-Fi and phone?
There's something called an Eye-Fi card. I've never used one but I believe it will allow you to make your camera wi-fi compatible. I'm not sure how fast it is. The user manual (page 230) has some added details on it.
I'm attempting to use my T3 now, but I can't seem to connect it to my macbook. Do you have any idea how to download the old EOS Utility for it so I can download the images to my computer?
Unfortunately, I do not.
Thanks so much, that was exactly what I needed 💪💪💪🏴🥰
Thank you!
can you explain how to date stamp my photos
I don't think you can, but after your set the date and time on the camera that information is embedded into the exif days for every image.
Very helpful video. Thanks a lot.
Thank you!
Hi David, how to change image aspect ratio? Thank you for the great effort.
I think that has to be done in post in your editing program. I don't recall a way to do it in the camera.
@@DavidHancock Thank you so much
what button did you press to get to the beginning menu? ive pressed every button and cant find it
I think there's a setting that tells the camera if you want to open the menu at the first panel or where you left off.
This is AMAZING thank you!!!!!!!!
Thank you!
Hi David. One thing; you are awesome
Thank you! :D
@@DavidHancock :). Just picked up the T3 as my first camera and you helped me not be overwhelmed by everything!
Is there any app out there that allows you to connect your cannon rebel t3 to your mobile device.
None of which I'm aware.
Thanks for the info! was wondering - my EOS T3 only has 2 each of the red blue yellow icons... and doesn't seem to have the custom functions? how can that be. Also when the view is on the screen (from red dot camera icon) it seems to be in a simulator mode so doesn't take a picture and I can't find this setting on any menu. Any input appreciated! also where to set bracketing that it would take 3 pics at a time? thanks!
I think there's a menu setting the removes many of the menu functions (I forget where it is, however.) I think it's called basic mode or something similar.
@@DavidHancock thanks! it has to be turned to the P-Tv-Av-M-A-Dep mode to view the ones you were showing ;-)
how can i change the aspect ratio
You'll have to do that in your photo editing software but cropping the images.
how do i do stopmotion on a canon rebel t3?
I'll run you through how I would do it, were I to make a stop-motion video. The key elements will be shooting in manual mode for consistent exposures and using consistent lighting.
1- Shoot manual, which includes a fixed ISO. Dial in your shutter speed and aperture exactly. If you have to change one for a cinematic effect, be sure to keep your exposure value the same. So if you plan to zoom in on a subject's face and go from f/8 and 1/15th of a second to f/2.8 then you need to adjust up to 1/125th, too. That will help ensure you don't have different illuminations in your frames.
2- Have steady-state lighting and exposures long enough (like 1/15th and longer) that your images will not have flickering due to the variations in lighting output either from the lights themselves or the fluctuation rate in grid power.
3- Shoot raw. That will let you correct minor exposure variances if they exist and you can batch-edit all your raw files to enhance shadow or highlight detail and ensure consistent changes across all your frames.
I hope that sets you on the right track.
@@DavidHancocki will try my best to understand what you just said and
thank you
my t3 does not have all those settings??
@@reneerogers13 check your mode dial because I think that the mode setting determines the menu complexity. There may also be an option to expand the menu on this camera model, but I can't recall for certain.
Hello I do live-streaming and I would like a clean hdmi is there any way I can have that, the problem is the square how do I get rid of thar?
Hmm. Good question and I don't know. I'd check the Canon Forums. I never used this camera as a video camera for live streaming.
Hi David! Great video, I understood so much! Do you by any chance know if the canon eos rebel t3 has a way to change the aspect ratio?
Thank you! You can crop the images in post but there's no way to do that in camera.
Great tutorial 👌
Thank you!
I'm completely new to owning a camera like this and found your 3 part video series helpful. I'm thankful to have found you. Is this a good camera to make my youtube videos?
In short, no. The video resolution is too low. If you want to grow a channel you need 4k video. Honestly an old cell phone with 4k video world be better.
@@DavidHancock oh no your kidding? enter sad face here lol I assume that would be the same scenario for doing live vlogs on FB or IG? I just bought this camera hoping to do fairly good videos for vlogging and live's
@@DavidHancock also I have an iphone 8plus, are you saying the resolution on that is better than ths camera?
@@greenwichhillhomestead Your iPhone will be way better -- and easier to use -- than this for what you want. If you're going to be facing the camera, invest in a ring light mount that places the camera inside the ring. That's going to be a lot better.
@@DavidHancock thank you I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
Does this do star trail or multiple pics at set time spacing? Thanks for the details.
You would need an intervalometer and I don't think that one is built into this camera. I think you need to purchase one separately.
Alternately, what I've done for that on the fly with cameras lacking an intervalometer (e.g., my Sony A7S II) is grab a rubberband and something like a small pebble and then use a long manual setting and let the rubberband and pebble work like an intervalometer. It ain't pretty, but no one looking at the photos would know that's how you did it.
Interesting as usual. Also I was wondering if it is possibly doing a video of disassemble/clean/lubricate/calibrate and reassemble or any info you can give of a manual analog "Pentax Spotmeter V" as mine is 40+ years old and could use a little attention. Always enjoy your videos.
Thank you! I haven't ever used a Pentax Spotmeter, but if I get one I'd be happy to make a video on it.
Hey David you said the replacement will be here this week?
Should be. It will ship tomorrow via Priority Mail,.
This was so helpful!!! Thank you! What year is your camera? As i went through each setting with you i noticed i had extra options that i am not totally sure what to do with. I purchase mine maybe 2013.
Thank you! I don't know. This was one that came through the shop and it went off to have the circuit board replaced. After that repair, I used it in the video because it was there.
Awesome just bought a used one.
Fantastic¡
great xx thank you
Thank you!
Hmmm... Aku beli ini sekend... Aman gak ya
Itu tergantung pada seberapa baik penjual Anda. Penjual yang baik akan menjual kamera yang bagus atau merawatnya jika ada masalah.
