bow doors were left open, and the ship was sitting low in the water. At a higher speed, water flooded the car deck and with the sloshing motion she tipped over. Only reason she didn't sink was that it landed on a shallow sandbar.
yes sir you are right that was when i was alot younger and did not understand the circumstances my condolences to the families and friends of the victims of this disaster
To those below asking i am writing an essay on this maritime disaster. The reason the ship sank was because the ballast tanks were used to lower the ship so the top car deck could be loaded onto. They should have disabled the ballast tanks however due to time restraints and pressure this was not done. The Bow doors were left open on accident as the crew member supposed to close the doors was still asleep and the bridge or other crew had no indication that the doors were left open and assumed they were closed. In some other circumstances the Bow doors could and a sinking wouldn't generally occur. The ship was behind schedule and while traveling through the port passage which was shallow caused large waves to crash on the Bow, the ship was also traveling at its max speed of 18 knots. The ship design did not include sub-dividing walls unlike the Titanic so the seawater would be throughout the entire level of the hull causing free surface effect. The ship would not have sunk with one or a few of these critical events however with all of these events occurring on the same voyage the disaster did occur.
The ships always sailed out to sea with bows door open ! As a child I went on a sister ship and was terrified , I thought the captain had forgot to close the doors ! I was 10 years of age and wanted to go up to the captain and ask why the doors were open whilst the boat was at sea, but was to shy to walk up to where the captain was ! Crazy as a 10 year old I could this was a stupid thing to do !
Bollocks, None of this is correct and actually how it happened, I was on it, and it's sad to see that people spend a lot of time making something inaccurate for the sole gain of attention. It is still burnt in my memories like it happened Yesterday, raking up these memories with false sequences of events, does not make it any better Mr. AusiasPomes, Take it off, for the sake of the people left behind...
my dad went on a similar ferry or maybe this one he used to travel on it loads but when he wasn't on it the ferry went out of port but they left the front door open
I am not being critical. I just letting author know about some details for future reference. And you, should be more polite, when talking to people you don't know. Try to treat others same way you'd like to be treated.
I was on that ship for seven months payed off and went to America to live god bless all souls that died on her RIP
It lived god? What?? ? Use some punctuation marks you ape
it was also riding lower in the water due to ballast tanks being full

This in inaccurate It listed and the righted itself. Almost immediately it listed again and capsized. The ship turned in its last seconds too.
My cousin (Christine Young) was killed on it.

Have you read the MAIB report?
( The Bow doors were left open on accident ) So NOT time = money???

Good effort! It must have taken you a long time to compose.
"Uhh, Captain? Your fly's open."
But seriously, a breakdown in communication THAT bad should NOT be allowed or tolerated.

Mr. AusiasPomes, Take it off, for the sake of the people left behind...
Can you tell us the true story, please? I would be very grateful!
@@gevorgvanarmenie9788 You can find a good description of events in an episode of "Seconds From Disaster" possibly here on UA-cam

this was very poor showing the actual events of the crossing such as initial developing sways water acumilation travel of water in hull
Left the barn door open and didn't pump out excess balast! Hell of a way to cure incompetence!
horrible event, great and simple animation to show how fast your life could take a fatal turn.
freakin sweet animation bro so cool make some more videos of these im subscribing
Hello bro, are you still alive?
wat software did ya use??
Is it possble to download video?
My step grandfarther was on that ship and he survived
Still can’t believe they had one guy in charge with closing the doors..
my dad went on a similar ferry or maybe this one he used to travel on it loads but when he wasn't on it the ferry went out of port but they left the front door open
This animation reminds me of Catchphrase - say what you see!
It's good but it's not right!
very good animation!
does anyone knows the exact coordinats of the sinking? its for an memoriam
@XxVXRxX what was his name?
why captain did not check control lights signaling that bow door are not properly closed?
bluestream1977 Because there were no control lights at the time.
This is one of the disasters that caused safety procedures like indicator lights on the bridge to be introduced on every ship.
But how cant they see that even the harbour workers should see that wehen they release the lines
Not bad, but large sized ship, if the ship has been moored by side, cannot depart from a mooring just by itself. It should be towed away from mooring.
Plot twist: He forgot to close the bow
you don't know what plot twist means, do you?
You mean the moral of the story, young boy?
Big swing and a miss there, dude
cool
didn't it should be at night?
Why did it sink??
the car door was open...
How didnt they see that the Door was open its a gigant door how cant they dont see that
@@FriesenLP the captain was drunk.
Utter incompetence
That was on my birth day .......
Well done... (i couldnt do it...)
Hi, are you still active / alive?
I think cartoons are muchos coolio too.
The Vehicles are facing the wrong way...if they drove in the bow loading ramp why are they facing forward?
