    This ferry I've been on! It's kinda a special ship to me someway because it's got my Surname plastered right across it! It'd be good to see the full thing this Quest channel is good for teasing! But they must think with doing that people will watch our channel or something but don't work like that as these video's aren't on the Quest documentaries!

    The water that came through the open bow doors was subject to the free surface effect. They tried and failed to prosecute shoreside management. Bow doors now have an interlocked mechanism with indicator lights in the wheelhouse.

      Also
      How is it possible that noone on the shore didnt see the door were opened when the ship was leaving the port?

      @@jonbonesmahomes7472 Have you seen a ferry leave port? Go astern, then turn around and leave for the open sea. Someone would have to be in the right place to see the bow door open and by the time they get to a telephone box to report it the ship was on her side.

    It's odd that there were there no crew on the cargo deck of a large ship to report this.

      It happened more than once, with no previous issues. Just add a very high tide. The rest is history.

    These are naval architects, & non of them have mentioned the spring (very high) tide on that fateful night. The overall cause of the disaster. End of.

    • @jonhall4717
      @jonhall4717 Рік тому

      Spring tides are hardly a rare occurrence... They're every fortnight after all. They meant the forward ballast was heavier than on a neap tide, sure, but hardly the "overall cause", just a contributing factor.

      There are lots of spring tides. A few days every fortnight. The causes of this disaster came down to complacent practices and a company putting profits over safety.
