from your comment i have felt the need to answer your question and the best answer i can give is that people want something to lean on in life, something that gives them an opportunity to experience something new and wonderful that nobody ever has, like religion. people form certain beliefs of a higher being and people think that following the beliefs and scriptures formed by these people that they will be appeasing something higher. when it comes to ghost and everything, people want closure that when they pass they can become something new or continue on as a spectator of the living, or they hunt ghosts for the thrill of seeing and feeling something they cannot see, a rarity in most earthly forces. TLDR: people like new things and things they can believe in, that other people believe in as well, believing in something is easier as a collective. or they like doing things to experience something they can experience at no other time.
