I agree. They last forever and it was really easy to send my Dad's in with the lid broken off. They send it back with a new insert and you can tick a box for "sentimental" to get the original insert or anything they replace back too. Great company. Thanks for the comment.
@AdamsOutdoorsAdventures in the late 80's my dads company made polishing machines for zippo. We got a bunch of samples and he was given big discounts to buy custom ones. I have one from the first Gulf war that is desrt camo, ones side says desert storm/sheild and has tanks and planes, the other side says "the glory is yours son, thanks for carrying the flag". He was a Nam vet, its pretty cool. That lighter stays in the display case.
Thanks for your comparison. The only time I love equipment is when they function reliably, consistently, and as advertised. The Exotac Titan is expensive and well made. When in real world use these were my results: a) the flame extinguished easily with very little wind. B) the unit burns fuel at a rapid pace. C) the flame starts out strong and within abt 7 seconds extinguishes itself even when protecting it from wind. This is very irritating. D) the aluminum body of the lighter stays reasonably cool to the touch after multiple uses. E) it is waterproof up to about a meter if the O-ring is in good shape. For me, when comparing the Exotac Titan and the Zippo my conclusion was : matches are still King.
I had the same Problem, your Titanlights wick is chared all black and thats why it’s not working correctly. Pull out the Wick and cut off the black Part, than soak the wick with lighter fluid let it sit a little bit and make sure it’s always saturated with lighter Fluid and white/cream colored. Never light a dry titanlight wick, that burns the wick and therefore destroys it, also don’t extinguish it by putting the lid on, just blow on it straight from the top, putting the lid on will lead to char buildup as well, but as long as you keep your wick white and wet, it will perform almost as good as a zippo in wind, however the zippo is still more wind resistent, but not by much… just remember wet and white, it will light!
If you clean that nasty wick and lighter and find out it still won't light, replace the wick. This can be done quite easily by tying a length of .3 mm stainless beading wire onto the very end of the new wick (or the older cleaned one) bend it up, twist the two ends together into one. Thread the wire into the lighter body and pull the wick thru with needle nose pliers. Replace the O rings with Viton O rings #35 size from The O Ring Store, or you can just get the new set of rings when you order the wick. If the fiber inside the fluid chamber is dirty, replace it. Regular cotton balls and ZIPPO flints arevfine. ZIPPO wicks are too short. Don't use it for a candle. Keep the lighter full. If you over fill it, fuel migrates into the cap, so always turn it upside down to unscrew the top cap . Any migrated fluid can be put back im. WIPE YOUR HANDS and the lighter off before you spark it. I love my Zippos too, but ZLF is over $1 an ounce now, not $2 for 12 ozs. You want FLUID to burn, not your wick. Not your gear and clothes and not your hands. Keep the lighter up like your knives, axes and hatches.
I appreciate the suggestions, I'll give them a try. I've tried clipping and replacing the wick and even sent it back for warranty. It came back acting about the same so I got discouraged and don't use it much anymore. So I'll have to revist it. Thanks for watching and for your help.
hell I still use a zippo I first carried in 1989.. it stinks ya gotta fill em but nothing works better.

That's awesome. I'm glad you still have the special ones.

Yea, that's been pretty much my experience as well. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try.
A ratty black heavily charred wick cannot draw fuel, its burned up, when it STARTS to get low add one capful of lighter fluid to it.
ExoTec last longer, zippo is more useful, two lighters for two different purposes.
Yea, I'd say that's a fair comparison. Thanks for the input.
