Wow! Didn't reliaze how the interpreters are dealing with the hearing people who have no clue about how to deal with the deaf students! This brings all the memories when i was in SCAD with my interpreter!
"Do you know Braille?" I love it! Lol! I am actually learning both ASL and Braille, and they have absolutely nothing in common. Where some people get the idea that ASL interpreters know Braille and Braille transcribers know ASL is beyond me.
braile? Oh god. That misconseption goes both ways, I have a friend who's family is completely blind but her and her siblings, and people constantly assume she knows sign language!
love this!! I interpret as well as teach ASL. My students see what an interpreter goes through quite often. Thanks for making it. The "death" thing makes me nuts!
I notice anytime I make a video that has the word Deaf in it, sure enough- UA-cam Closed Captioning displays "Death" instead :~\ Hopefully UA-cam CC will get better though :)
The goal of this was to be funny, but you will encounter teachers that don't want you in the front of the room. Teachers that don't understand why they need captions if you are there, and they don't understand why the deaf student can't watch the interpreter and take notes all at the same time. Some dont' understand that you can't pass out papers and grade papers because if you're doing that...who is interpreting for the deaf student? Vegstacie is right! You just have to educate!
Honestly, they do have so little sense. I know I'm very late but I'm sure that my friend who's now a teacher in Japan would be better than the teachers we had 20 years ago who yelled at me, the HoH kid, for not listening. When the assistant was dealing with the noisy kids and the teacher was talking to the board for most of the lessons. Every day. Every teacher, every school, every year- And yet I was too hearing to escape to the nearest Deaf school. At least my friend would make sure I'm keeping up or give me subtitles/notes and stuff.
that teacher reminds me of my teacher... "Oh, i dont actualy teach the class, im just going to be difficalt and contridict everything everyone says :P"
Yea...that's the point of the joke. People say death instead of Deaf. I've had someone come up to me and say "Oh...you work with those death people"....I try to shake my head as nicely as possible.

Wow. Just wow.
**educate people on our job, ethics, and role. (Sorry for the messed up response, I'm posting from my phone). Thanks for watching!
This Video is a clear representation of how my teachers treat me!
Glad you guys like it!

I captioned it myself...that's the joke. People do say that....sadly.

@alexoficeland Yeah, because a voice-off, visual language will DEFINITELY benefit a person who can't see.
Yea, I was in a hurry to caption it.
I'm becoming an interpreter... please don't tell me this is what I must do in the future...
LOL... oh yeah... so true...
As an Interpreter, your video is exact! I don't understand how someone with so much teaching can have so little sense! Uggggghh!

@theShawnLei- Thanks... Wish it wasn't, but we just have to get out there and educate pepo
This is slightly exaggerated, but things like this will happen. Don't let it discourage you! Just have to educate. :)
Wow I love this video. It is amazing. Can I use this in my sign language training? Thank you
Awesome..
02:21 Was the word "here" supposed to be "hear"?
@kenton ..... Its happens all too often :/

Haha hand language!! lol
Why do people connect sign language and Braille? It's so dumb!!
Andie Fox what you are do with interpreter for you
Anyone who disliked the vid don't know braille
I get that interpreting is kind of different but i feel like just telling them your a "translator" would get the message across

Holy shit how creepy.
oh.... well opps.... I am well I am not deaf but Hard of Hearing, so I didn't understand the joke.
